The "coin that was pressed into a weight" is from someone making a silver ring. You hammered the edges of the coin, always rotating, until it broadened out. Eventually you'd cut out the center and smooth it. You could also do it in reverse with a small thin silver coin- bore a hole in the center, then push rods through it and open up the hole.
Excellent discoveries gentlemen. Favorite are Military Cap Badge and buckle. Coins are also crazy cool and the hair curlers is first I have seen discovered. This starlight hunt is better than almost every day hunt I have had the pleasure of viewing. Thanks for sharing.

Si, that was a very interesting hunt! Rich has some really nice finds as well. Beautiful bridge, and I love the sign to "break step", so there is no rhythmic pounding of feet (with boots) that could shake the bridge.

Really enjoy your channel, camera work is amazing, so clear like being there. The snake buckle was used by the south during the Civil War 1861-1865. Really neat finds and you guys are lucky enough to have so much history under your feet. Thanks for sharing

Do you sell the coins that are out of circulation or that are old coins-- Victorian or Jacobean or Roman? I know that some of the coins are worn, but still they must have some value for having lasted so long... Also, with all the lead that you find are you in any danger from lead poisoning?
Not sure, but the first coin looked like an Ottoman Coin to me. Loads of different ones out there and there’s some good sites to help identify them. Coal was burnt at a "gasworks" to extract the flammable gas. This was then stored and distributed for "gaslights" on the street and in homes. Gas was used to light homes up until the 50's in the UK. Coke was the left overs from the coal burn but because it wasn't fully burnt could still be used for heating in a stove. Needed to be added to a coal fire as it was hard to light from scratch but it held together well and gave good heat. Ah, the old days.
