Yes!! She had a photo with Kristen Chenoweth 21 years ago at a wicked show and if you watch her videos from her younger days on RUclips her room was decorated with wicked posters. She still has them all up.
Sabrina Carpenter would’ve been a better pic in my opinion and what’s funny is she also auditioned for the role I think they made a mistake and they only picked Ariana Grande because she’s really popular also it’s still sounds like Ariana Grande in the songs in my opinion, I can still hear Ariana Grande in the songs if you want to be truly correct you don’t I want to hear Ariana Grande voice in any of the songs to me Ariana Grande’s Glinda send more like cat Valentine, pretending to be Glinda
@@NicVandEmZbeen a sabrina carpenter stan for about 9 years now but she is Absolutely Not the better choice 😭 cady on mean girls would’ve been perfect though!
I think it's because a lot of the time, you get people who misunderstand the content or wanna change too much. While I LOVED the idea of the Mean Girls: The Musical's film version making the songs sound like radio singles (VERY on-brand in this context), they did so in a very lackluster way, save for "Sexy" and "Someone Gets Hurt." Plus there's the typical Hollywood issue of making fantasy films "more grounded" by focusing more on character psychology and muted colors than magical elements and vibrancy, so your observation is understandable.
As someone who hadn't seen Wicked before the film came out, and then proceeded to listen to the original 2003 soundtrack afterwards, I love both of versions of this song, which is rare because 90% of the time I prefer the original but both Actresses delivered. Kristin was sweet and bubbly and Ariana took what was already a good song and made it her own. I'm 100% down for more musical film adaptations if they're actually like this one.
What’s really cool? Is Ariana gave her little nods to Kristen, especially in the opening number, but she also made her own while keeping it respectful to the character. I love that.
I'm not a hardcore fan of Ariana, but as a classically trained former singer, I found it so weird how everyone was doubting her in the upcoming of the film, when she's like one of the best vocalists of our time. She has to reign back her voice and power when she sings pop. She has an amazing voice ans seems to be a great interpeter and actress too. (I don't love her style of pop but that's beside the point.)
@@rubylee9566 as Stephen Schwartz himself said she was always a soprano you can’t change your vocal range that drastically. What she trained for was to better place her voice for Operatic notes because pop placements are different. 😊
People doubting Ari not because her vocal abilities but acting. She never really had a bigger role in big movie like this, this is her first role actually. Also, her role is always the same as cat valentine, which is dumb and stupid character. I'm glad she can pull this off and actually acting like glinda
I absolutely love how legit all of internet was concerned and untrusting of Ariana playing Glinda until she started singing, like wtf did you expect to get from a girl whose been chasing this dream for 20 years?😂
They were afraid of the fact that Ariana is a popstar because hiring someone with a pop background to be apart of a musical theatre song haven't work in the part ( WISH ) and yes I know she had a musical theatre background but I and most people didn't know before soo I feel like we should all says sorry to Ariana oh and people were also scared that she don't know how to act and would sing as Ariana and not glinda this is because of us not knowing how much she wanted to play glinda soo once again I say this for all of us we're sorry Ariana!@@trini2DBone134
@@LARKXHIN I personally respect the fact they waited before adding more songs. And only two? Even better. I'm excited for some more tied ends for the story (and more of it to see. There is a book series to look to after all)
When I saw Wicked here in Norway on the day after the movie premiere, I was excited to see how the actors, including Ariana, would perform. And Ariana put on a fully believable and authentic performance as Glinda. I didn't see Ariana on the screen, I 100% saw Glinda. And not being too familiar with Cynthia Erivo previously, I saw her too 100% as Elphaba. This analysis of Ariana's take on "Popular" was very well done and it becomes clear that Ariana went into this role with her heart and soul and she was truly phenomenal as Glinda! Can't wait to see her and Cynthia return for part 2 next year! :)
Ironic how out of a lot of musicals adapted to movie, Wicked is one of the most mainstream ones (so a lot of its fanbase might not notice if it lost the original’s nuance), but still got one of the better adaptations in recent memory
STILL haven't seen the film, but glad to hear Ariana transformed for the role. Really wish we got more live-action fantasy musicals, and I wish major award companies would give acting noms to actors in fantasy/sci-fi/action films (it's so uncommon).
@@naustinfipecto6104 Concerning G(a)linda in particular? I love how Ariana reminded me that she's a funny character. I think Alli Mauzey was the first time I really saw her a hilarious witch. Ariana had a lot of Broadway mannerisms, but rather than coming off as over-the-top like in a stage production, they ironically made her feel more funny and real. While I'd have LOVED to see Amanda Seyfried as G(a)linda, Ariana proved that she's a true fan.
One of my favorite parts of Ariana's performance is all the little growls/vocal fry bits (like the 'there' in there's nobody wiser). I'm such a sucker for a bit of growling in a song, but I really like the placements here - it's not too much but it adds a lot of personality and flavor to the performance!
I’m a guy who’s always acted all above girly pop star stuff. Between Wicked and some of those SNL skits, I’ve been forced to reckon with the fact that I am an Ariana Grande fan no matter how much I don’t want to admit it
2:50 I also think that the extension of the words is also Glinda realizing that at this point she’s maybe overstepping a little bit, and slowing down in order to see Elphaba’s reaction. When she sees that Elphaba isn’t too noticeably upset with her saying that she “has an awfully long way to go,” she continues with the song.
I finally got to see the movie tonight and it was GREAT!!! As for Ariana the Entire movie i watched her BE Galinda. She was a Riot but also i could See Glinda's emotions, especially in No One Mourns and Defying Gravity. Cant Wait till part 2 comes out next year!
5:15 that was my problem with the live action ariel, I didn't feel the ariel actress did a good job of showing the character through her voice as much as her voice if that makes sense.
If anything, I believe that Halle Bailey brought part of your world to a different level where Jodi Benson a true icon living, legend was told to sing it as a lament and subdue and quiet and hopeful. Alan told Halle Bailey that they're kicking it up a notch and making her determined and instead of hopeful there's still that help element, but she's yearning there's desperation in her voice to get out of the water. And then in the part of your world reprise three. You hear the instant regret and remorse of the actions that she done. I believe you're looking for carbon copy and that's just never gonna happen.
That's really interesting because I also didn't like the live action Little Mermaid, but I thought that Halle Bailey was the best part of the movie. I felt like she brought life to the movie despite everyone's best efforts to murder everything that was remotely animated about it. I do get what you're saying and agree to an extent, but I attribute that to poor directing choices and sound engineering that did not vibe with me rather than choices Halle made in her performance.
