- Every Major safety component on any aircraft, be it a light-civil, military or commercial must get inspected & overhauled at predetermined intervals, and in the civilian world, this is known as TBO- Time Between Overhaul. When's yours?
Do you understand how your prop works, or have you ever seen the guts of your prop to understand it? We answer all these THRILLING questions in this two-part video about propeller overhauls.
Join me over at my buddy Jason's world-class prop repair & overhaul shop, Texas Aircraft Propeller & Accessories for a full-access tour of what happens to your prop when it's at his facility getting overhauled.
*This is not an ad or sponsored video, but rather insight for you of the importance of having a seemingly good prop taken apart, inspected, reassembled & balanced.

The content in your channel is just amazing, I can't explain how useful this kind of videos are for training purposes!! keep it up
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. I am an apprentice AMP 3 1/2 years getting ready to take some tests hopefully.
Great work on this video. Thank you very much.

Very much enjoyed! 👍
Thanks for making the videos Matt!
Thank you! This pt_1 and pt_2 on prop rebuilds is 100% better than any I’ve seen! Really helped to understand the $$ involved! Also thanks to Jason and his employees for a great explanation and tour of his shop!! 8)
You’re welcome! I’ll forward your sentiments on to Jason; I’m sure he’ll appreciate that!
And I appreciate the kind words & your watching!
Very nice, thanks for uploading.
Props (pun intended) for the P3.
What an outstanding aircraft!
Thank you for publishing this.
You’re welcome- it’s my pleasure to being useful & hopefully entertaining content to you.
Thanks for watching!
That is very interesting thanks for showing all that!
Thank you for articulating this complex process.
Would love to see the bloopers.
Hahaha- there really aren’t a lot of bloopers on this one; I don’t do much talking & Jason REALLY knows his stuff. On my other videos where I’m doing most of the talking.... yeah- there’s PLENTY of b n loopers & outtakes!!!
Thanks for watching!
That was crazy interesting, never seen that before! Thanks! ☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️
Stay tuned- there’s lots more where that came from!! Thanks for watching!

great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just subscribed, well made video as you kept me interested while learning. I’ve got a new appreciation for proper prop care.
Perfect! Exactly what I was shooting for with those videos.
Thanks for the comment & sub!
I just bought a Mooney project last month that experienced a partial gear failure as it slid off the runway. Fortunately the prop struck mud and gently stalled the engine, only one blade was damaged but the prop shop is able to refurbish the unit. I uploaded a quick amateur video of the beginning stages of our project. Mooney’s have notoriously little prop clearance and I now know why/what to look for during preflight.
Awesome edit, sir with some epic shots!
Why thank you, my friend- I hope you browse the channel & consider sticking around & subscribing! There’s much more to come of all the platforms of aircraft I highlight in- depth maintenance procedures!
Unusual Attitudes you’re welcome, my man! I make tutorials on this stuff so I can appreciate the hard work you’ve put into this. Keep up the awesome stuff!
The process I follow to balance the prop on my model airplane (it's a whopping 12" dia. x 6" pitch) is not as elaborate, but you can bet that I make sure it's as balanced as I can get it! Thanks for sharing this!
That’s cool! Thanks for sharing your process & thanks for watching!!
Nice!
10:07 Ouch!…
Sheeeeesh! Amazing!
Very interesting thanks.
Thanks for watching, Barry
Many years ago I had a fixed prop on a Lycoming 205 hp helicopter engine powering my Starduster Too Experimental biplane, based at C-40. The aircraft was built in Menominee, Michigan by one George McNeil. The prop needed more pitch. I found a prop shop in Kalamazoo, Michigan that advertised this sort of work. I made an appointment, took the prop to them and was able to wait on it. The technician permitted me to watch the process. The prop was first affixed to a fixture to hold it on the horizontal a few feet off the floor. He had an aluminum pole about 10’ long which had a “claw” on one end. The claw was slipped over one of the two blades of the prop and then he literally hung all of his body weight on the opposite end of the pole...and gently bounced his weight up and down which resulted in twisting the prop and the pitch being changed. There were measurements taken before and after. I do not recall all of the exact details of the procedure...it was in the late 1980’s. The results were as hoped for...more airspeed and without any prop vibration. Also, the cost was very reasonable. An amazing experience! :)
Wow! It’s amazing to hear about the stories of the the ‘experienced’ guys & what they can’t do anymore. 😞
Thanks for watching!
Please elaborate on advantage of shot peening.
Those Hartsell blades need Cold Rolled..!
Almen Strips A, N, and C. Hamilton (Standard). Has an Aluminum “Y” Strip...

So... .008 - 012 C - 2 ?
The music is very distracting. Hars to understand. Otherwise very nice video.
.008 to .012. C-2..?
Marvel Balancer..?
In other words, it gets cleaned and painted. lol
It’s a wee bit more complicated than that. But I guess, on a VERY high level... yeah.
@@UnusualAttitudes If the prop has incurred damage, obviously it gets tougher.
@Appomattox Rose Oh I'm a lot more technical than that, but most of the stuff is just a bunch of bullshit to appease the FAA.
Speaking from first hand experience, it is quite a tough job. The easiest thing to work on is the prop. governor.
You go broke....
Music is still far too loud.
What is it with you people and music?
It's highly DISTRACTING!
