- Jen and Pumps have a treat in store for you listeners - the creator of our favorite Instagram account, @disappointingaffirmations, joins us today to do some dramatic readings. But before Dave comes on the girls have some sh*t to get off their chest. Pumps has absolutely had with corporate grifters and Jennifer recently noticed some sexism at a local high school basketball game that she's not going to slide.

Pumps gives me life. 'I wanted to be a Marine Biologist' Jennifer: 'Really, what happened?!' Pumps: 'I don't like fish" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
‘I also like indoor plumbing.’ 🤣 ‘Cirque du soleil with Shamu & Pumps.’ ‘Married to someone named Randy.’ Sittin’ in a tree full of laughter.
@@laurenashley90 🤣🤣🤣
We need a crossover episode with the Politics Joe Podcast from the UK. Pumps and Ed Campbell could discuss their shared icthyophobia.
Yes, the fish did it for me too 😂
🐠 🐟 🐠
I will die on this hill Jen and Pumps. I am not working on my birthday 😂 it is the one day out of the year that I want to be self absorbed and not have to work for my corporate overlords.
For real. I always took my birthday off, especially when my bosses reduced us to a 4-day week, but kept piling the work on us. I was not spending my birthday taking shit from clients or cowering from the head boss' narcissistic rage episodes. I never threw a party for myself, but it was my day to relax at home and talk on the phone with my family.
Yeah I am selfish and take it off, especially if it lands on a weekend. Unfortunately I am on a one person job so sometimes that means extra work on my next day....
My brother worked for a company that gave all employees their birthday off, with pay, as a bonus holiday. More companies could do this. People need it
@@rhondawest6838 that's a great idea! My friend worked for a company that made a big deal of employees birthdays - cake, desirable merch (it was a video game company). Like, she wouldn't have missed going to work on her birthday for the world!
I support your Mom, Jen!
Those warehouse workers never see any tips.
I was about to say the same thing! Please!
They shouldn't have to be tipped to get by in this country. Not saying you don't know that already. It's just that the tipping culture in this country is ridiculous
You are spot on Jennifer about this country and the tax system is essentially supporting corporate socialism. This needs to end before it ends us!
As an European, I hate shopping in the USA. Why are prices without taxes? I want to pay x, not x + y + z
What about the value added tax in Europe? Isn’t that similar to sales tax?
@@christinemetz5351 Yes it is similar. The difference is that in business to consumer shops in Europe the price on the pricetag includes VAT. Depending on country and shop it might also display the price without VAT in a smaller fontsize for convenience because businesses can deduct the VAT of bought items on their tax returns.
Jen is 1000% right on the Mommy’s Money issue. Tell em
Yes!!! Haha I did not see it heading in that direction when her story started 😂 that was an amazing set up for a perfect sentiment. As a single career mom-- I can super relate!
The minimum wage in Georgia has been raised $4. in 40 Years!!!! That's just crazy!
$4??? My heart aches…
Here in Oklahoma hasn't happened since 2008 the last national minimum wage raise 😢
I don't work on my birthday. I also don't need anyone to celebrate. I just take the day for myself and do what I want - sleep in, go to the movies, go to a new restaurant, whatever. 🎉
I'm with mom. I don't eat hate chicken or buy discrimination craft supplies. 😊
Jen’s mom and I have something in common I’m a Dallas girl who also won’t buy hate chicken or prejudice craft supplies. 😅
Same!
They’re on my list as well, also Walmart.
This grandma in Ohio won't buy NOTHING from them.
"I like a kids' party . . . except for the kids." Perfect Jennifer quote.
I've had with ageism... Because if You're over 55,You suddenly become invisible... Except when You dress and act Way Young... I Love spending time with all of You in the morning... Thanks For the Laughs Girl please... ❤️💚💜😁🇨🇦😁
I hear you, but I thought the invisibility happened at 35 for women...isn't that disgusting?! Love these ladies too 🌻🌈🇨🇦
I would pay good money to sit in the splash zone at “Cirque du SoGay starring Jessica, Mee-Maw & a freed Willy.”
Like your own hard earned money or like mommy’s money? 😂
a freed willy almost took me out😂😂😂
Pumps in landlocked Oklahoma dreaming of only the fun parts of marine biologist life
lmao
OMG! The Mistress/Widow story is an Oscar worthy movie line!
I haven’t ever shopped at hobby lobby, haven’t bought any hate chicken in 20+ years and only buy at home depot if I can’t find something elsewhere. It’s voting with my dollars! 🤨
Add weather tech and uline. Big Trumpers!!
I've been that way for decades. No Walmart. No Hobby Lobby. And any place that ever pisses me off, even once. Especially Guitar Center. To hell with them. Go to your nearest real city and find a good music store. House of Guitars in Rochester NY gets my business.
"My son goes to private school, and I understand what the optics of that are." Honestly you get a pass for that when the alternative is the Oklahoma public school system...
The homeschooler chickfila statement is incredible underrated and overlooked 😂
I live in CA, and my grandson goes to a private school, and plays football. The "daddy's money" chant is a thing here as well. My daughter pays half and her exhusband pays half. I thought it was only here. The first time I heard it, it made my hair stand on end.
Ironically enough, I take my birthday off of work just to avoid the fanfare that I'm forced into no matter how much I protest. I don't want a cake, stay the fuck out of my cubical - I don't want it decorated, don't sing to me, don't force your homemade food on me. I just want to be left alone, so one less staff is what they get for forcing me into celebration for their sake. Girl bye.
Y'all are absolutely correct about Walmart. Starbucks was one of the first companies to pay a living wage, plus benefits including covering college tuition. Costco also pays a living wage and good benefits.
Starbucks is also known for unionbusting
And they use offshore accounts to avoid tax.@@white_isnt_a_race2338
May Pumps find the Randy Randy she deserves.
I can’t with Kiley😂😂😂😂😂 her “why?” When pumps was talking about Randy. Im dead😂🤣
"Girl plez with that clap" sounded like you were calling her out on having the clap...it made me do a spit take...and I don't like spitting 😂
Pumps spreading the clap world wide
I taught high school level special ed classes. Mostly kids with learning disabilities - nothing too challenging. I often had kids who would come to me every day announcing “it’s 45 days till my birthday” then “it’s 44 days till my birthday” ad nauseum. Ugh.
The Importance of Being Randy
Let’s all not forget that Jen threw a birthday party for her dog Tubby,! 😂❤😂
Pumps, in Hawaii the shipping costs are often double or triple.
That's the cost for living in paradise--away from the rest of the world. Alaska is expensive that way, too for the same reason.
@@andreah6379 The clean air is a selling point tho.
The light at the end of the tunnel is really the light of an oncoming train.
I've had it with all boomers being lumped together negatively. Some of us were hippies and still are.
Some of us are closer to Gen X aka Boomer II’s
I personally saw the grifters for grifters when I was 12 years old I'm now 67 so ...oh I'm also.an atheist. Since I was 11 years old
My sister is listening with me and during the toxic positivity segment she said “they’re positive toxicity”😭 I think that’s the perfect explanation
Shipping is the WORST with FedEx. They constantly label the dumbest things as "undeliverable" and make me drive to the parcel locker to get it which is like 25 minutes away. Just went through this with a small under the desk treadmill. I should have just gone to the store and bought the damn thing in person.
FedEx is horrible. They are famous for rescheduling, 1st promising the date then breaking it.
And recently UPS, after charging me nearly $17 to ship back 2 unused cell phones, tells me they don't know if my package they were suppose to deliver, was actually delivered??!!
Wtf with all corporations today??
Grifting is celebrated in this country as “marketing genius”.
Junk fees are a 90 billion dollar industry in the US. I try not to buy things with grifter fees, but it's hard not to. Consumers have no protection here. It's like the wild west.
I was talking with a friend the other day about how different things are for kids now as compared to when we were kids. One of the big things for me was that we didn't have helicopter parents. They weren't involved in every single aspect of our lives so we feel we were more self-sufficient.
Regarding birthdays, I have always thought that the birthdays should be celebrated for the moms and not the children. I mean really what did the kid do on that day but pop out from the mother's womb in one fashion or another.
I realize that we have a mother's day, but with all the pain that we have to go through with carrying this beautiful child within us, we should be celebrated on that child's birth as well.
This is just the thought that I had when I was younger and I always shared my day with my mom.
Agree on minimum wage and lack of corporate accountability.
Just saw NBC about Enid Oklahoma and the two brave old lady democrats that are determined to get the white Nazi off the city council. Mr Judd Blevins. I wish you could get those two wonderful ladies on your podcast
Yes! Please?
I seen that.
When plunder is the goal in a society, they enact laws that authorize the plunder, then a moral code that encourages it & glorifies those who plunder. Ben Franklin
One of the biggest grifts I've seen recently is with online contact lense companies they all have a " handling fee " now that's over $200. So they say oh your contacts are $300 off buy with us! Then they slap that on at the very end. EVERY COMPANY.
Have you tried Hubble? I love their contact’s (daily’s hubble brand) they are so thin & I can actually wear them comfortably without irritability, redness or itching like a lot of other brands. The first 2 weeks (14 contacts each eye) is only a $1 & then every month (30 per eye) is only $42 after tax & everything. It is more money in the long run but helps when you cannot afford to purchase an entire year in advance at a time or if you have issues with other contacts like I did.
I hadn't heard of that company! I will be checking that out in a few months, thank you so much I appreciate it!! @@kaylakramer7413
Your attitude of loving haters and not giving two s$&ts makes me happy 🎉
I think it’s time to meet Jen’s mother! She needs to be a guest on the podcast.
Recently watched an old clip of their old show on Bravo. The episode when Jen makeover her mom's house! She’s so adorable!
Love Disappointing Affirmations. My only affirmation is, “It could always be worse.” That’s literally the best I got for positivity!
Independent feminine is way better than dependant feminine IMO
🎯
I will never work on my birthday!
“I just don’t love fish”!!😆😂🤣😂😆😁 Damn Pumps, I love you!❤️❤️❤️
First thing they said in my MBA program … the board of directors primary objective is to increase stockholders wealth.
Well Randy plays guitar down at the bar on the deck on Sundays .
I love when people get mad bc you suggest everyone should make enough to live off of because they think others shouldn’t make as much as them.
Uhhhh try raising your wage too then. The fuck does that have to do with someone else’s 😂
I am fearful of losing my job so I won’t name the company . They are a major corporation that has made record breaking profits . Last year, they profited $4.5 billion. As a reward , they are lowering my pay. Not joking. We need more unions . I can’t imagine if they have a bad year. This has motivated me to
Retire asap . Hopefully in 7 years. Taylor swift made the same amount last year. Guess what she did ? She rewarded her people with bonuses.
Hey gorgeous, beautiful most inspiring humans Jennifer, Pumps and Kiley,! Loved this pod and your guest! I've had the first clash with toxic 'positivity' as a psych student 500 (it feels like) years ago;. It had me writing a 'positivity journal' which made things so much worse, I threw it against the wall, feeling furious at feeling crap and guilty at not being grateful enough for my 'blessings'. Then I read 'Smile or Die' by Barbara Ehrenreich in 2012 , and I feel you guys drive the message home just as poignantly and in a way that I am proudly mumbling under my breath - Girl, please! Thank you for saving my sanity every Tuesday or Thursday and whenever you feel like it !
I have a Memorial Day birthday, too. I feel Kiley’s pain. Also, I don’t like to work on my birthday and make no apologies for that. I don’t expect anyone to throw me a parade, which is good because people are often out of town.
I live in the Netherlands and when a package here gets lost, they send you a new one without having to pay extra for that service.
Here down under in NZ, many many employers gift employees their birthday as a day off to perpetuate our own sense of fabulousness, and I am totally here for it!
I’m 74 yrs.old and have had 1 birthday party. It was for my 4th, I went around the neighborhood inviting the kids to my birthday party and then went home and told my mom that I was having a party that night. After her shock wore off I made myself scarce for a few hours. Luckily, things worked out and we had a really fun night. 😎✌🏻🤟🏻🖖🏻
Be sweet to your elders…it’s shit hard to be in the O.L.D. Club. You can’t even imagine on your worst day. It’s coming if you hang in there.
i giggle everytime i hear jen talk about her successes at the "Chicken and Pickle". It's such a funny name, it doesn't even sound real
So glad I found your channel. I am a Boomer, btw, so I'll continue to sit at my kitchen table and look out my window while I enjoy your discussions. I LOVE that you cuss so appropriately and with the proper expression of emotion. Well done, ladies! Rock on...
I Have Had It when CANADIAN online companies are dealing in USD! And then the ridiculous sales taxes, shipping fees, and the fees for " package insurance " and then the " will you donate a dollar " to a charity I NEVER heard of before.....GET THE FUKK OUT OF HERE! FULL STOP.
Something about gen X/80s kids all wanted to be marine biologists, seriously hear it all the time lol 🐠🦑🦈
First, if the greatest gift I'll ever have is my sibling I need a gift receipt. Second, the only reason I take off for my birthday is because my job makes a huge fuss of birthdays and I am not participating in the foolishness.
Randy and Angie sitting in a tree K I S S I N G!!!! Girl please!!
I just had a birthday last week. Did I go to work? NOOOOPE!!!! 🤣🤣
If it had been me listening to kids yell "daddy's money", I would have started yelling "MOMMY'S MONEY"!! Feck y'all! My dime, my kid, my dollars!
New merch idea: athletic apparel with the quote “there’s no question I’ve got my shit together athletically, mentally, and physically”
Dave's disappointing affirmation of panic attacks is spot on,
I recently bought a car part online. Free shipping, great. $23 to ship the paper invoice which is attached to the box.
My mother is about Pumps’s age and also wanted to be a marine biologist, but became a mother when she was 18.
So that ship sailed.
She did however marry the man that made her life go down that path. He’s my dad, and his name happens to be Randy.
They’re no longer together though. So I guess Pumps dodged both those bullets taking the life path that she took lol.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Can we all just find a butch for Pumps that has a farm and rides a Harley into town already?? Lol
OMG! You Ladies make me laugh, give me hope for the future and start my day in style! I love it! ❤️
thanks for introducing me to disappointing affirmations, now i have the perfect way to start my day every morning
Jen's cackling laugh hurts my ears and I love it.
Just found you ladies recently...thank you so much for letting my work day critiquing and grading student art all day just go by a little faster.
I just checked the minimum wage for the states, and Wyoming is the lowest at $5.15 for non fair labor standards act employers, otherwise it's the standard $7.25 Unsurprisingly, it seems it's a 1:1 for any state that is right leaning or southern that the minimum wage is set at the default $7.25 across the board. The cost of living may be lower, but you're effectively earning less than half of what min wage people work for in California or Washington at $16+.
Texas is one of those states that is exempt from that, where the cost of living is not at all low, yet still has it set at $7.25. Funnily enough, Texas is one of the states that doesn't have individual income tax, yet it has high sales and property tax, so you can easily sit pretty on a pile of wealth and give the middle finger to people struggling to get by. Middle class people can't afford a home, and the rest can hardly purchase anything without being skewered with the high costs of basic goods compounding with the high taxes.
Another thing that's absurd is that SSA disability checks are pretty much the same no matter where you live in the US, and SSI is only within a difference of $10 to $400 depending on the state. This means that if you're disabled and can't move to a more affordable part of the state or a different state entirely for very understandable reasons, you're going to be affected by it unequal to other states. A lot of disabled people can't move even a few streets away, so how would they ever move anywhere else? It's really sad that the stimulus checks were the most money some people have ever seen all at once, and they're from one of the richest countries on Earth.
Republican states are the worst. They WANT to keep the people poor, they're to exhausted from working 2 jobs to fight for more money. Seriously, what do the senators and governor's do with the state money? Its sure not going to the people that need help.
Aussie boomer here, thanks for the laughs ladies, so glad I found your channel 😊
I’m California born and bred, and all the southern women I know are fierce and independent, very much like Jennifer and Pumps.
Look at reality TV, pawn stars, storage wars, repo man, Lizard lick Towing, countless quasi courtroom suits, etc. All involve screwing a poor person out of his belongings.
From a child development perspective, it's good to mark special occasions as milestones for a number of reasons, but having big parties and birthday weeks and whatnot isn't necessary and is definitely excessive
Excellent point, Pumps! ❤
Then Jen speaks up, 🥂❣
I realized there’s a difference between being overtly positive or almost delusional positivity to the point of giving the benefit of the doubt even when it’s not deserved like I am versus toxic positivity. Of course I have dark or sad or crazy thoughts sometimes, we all do, but the universe always has a way of balancing itself.💚 even though I’m so naturally positive, because I do have a tendency to overthink or over analyze myself in negative hurtful ways, I think that’s why I double down on smiles and rainbows and unicorns because that’s not only what I love and gravitate towards but also helps keep the stormy clouds away
WEATHER 😜or not they are my clouds or other creatures’ clouds. Truth in minimal necessary is more than enough sometimes.
The doordash grift is the WORST. Next comes Air BnB. Irks me to no end
Just purchased the “I’ve had it” hoodie, so from now on that hoodie will be my properly airport attire! Pics are coming 😂😂❤❤❤
Wow @ Jennifer's mother! Love that she was raised by such a liberal southern icon.
I just discovered your channel and I had to subscribe. This is the first video of yours I watched. You talked about "Toxic Positivity." I'm a man who is up in years. Maybe I don't understand the term, but the way I understand it (I've only heard the term on your show), I may have a different take. You suggest it means you should be positive at all times. That's probably impossible. The way I see it, you must embrace the downs, the heartaches and pains just as you embrace the joys. You can learn so much from the downs. They are part of each individual's story. It took me 63 years to find the true love of my life. I'd been divorced for 30 years when we married. Nothing is "perfect," but our marriage was "perfect." She was Pentecostal. I'm an atheist. It didn't matter. Our hearts were the same. We were both politically liberal, and I still am. We never had a fight. We always gave each other the benefit of the doubt. We bantered - no filter, and we'd laugh ourselves to tears. We took trips. We played strip UNO. We trusted each other. We likened ourselves to two 10-year-olds whose parents were out, so we could say anything we wanted without fear of criticism, judgement, or punishment. I could go on, but we simply accepted everything about each other. I lost her to cancer 4-1/2 years ago. Meeting her was the best thing that ever happened to me. Losing her was the worst. It was important however, to swallow that loss whole and embrace it just as much as I embraced my love for her. We spent eight virtually perfect years together. I still cry occasionally, but it's all positive, because it was such a beautiful chapter in my personal book of life. Nothing lasts forever. The pain I feel constantly reminds me of how deeply she touched my heart. She held it. I allowed her to hold it. I knew she'd always be gentle. She would never hurt me. She would do everything in her power not only to avoid hurting me, but to prevent anyone else from hurting me. Though I will feel the pain from my loss for the rest of my life, I understand how lucky I've been. I got to experience something very few people ever will. I'm 75 now. I won't go through the hassle of looking for anyone else. No one else would measure up, but I feel so lucky (positive) for the gift of Bonnie. I don't see my loss as negative. There are no guarantees in life. Every second, each one of us is "wingin' it," and we each deal with getting over the hurdles and falling down differently. In my opinion, being positive is simply a habit that takes practice. Life goes on. Positivity feels so much better than negativity. I know, because I've experienced both. Yes, I fall down. I hurt. Sometimes, I even hate life, but invariably those things are temporary. My habit of positivity - a habit I've worked to develop, doesn't mean I'm always positive, but it always brings me back to "feeling alright."
You ladies are just what I need, Ive been somewhat obsessively listening to Meidas touch and other progressive news for years now but lately it’s just getting too upsetting, I literally feel my blood pressure going up when listen but you 2 make me happy and calm ❤
