One day they didn't have the usual econobox I rented and substituted a brand new Touareg V10. I didn't even know what a Touareg was. It looked to be a very large SUV, which at least would give us a comfortable ride for our long drive. I let my wife drive it and she liked to go fast on the autobahn, when conditions permitted. So I fell asleep in the front passenger seat. When I work up I saw the speedometer at over 220 km/hr. I said to my wife: "What the hell?!" as we passed high end Benzes and BMWs whose drivers looked at us in astonishment. I finally told my wife that she needed to pull off since I needed to see what was under the hood. Plus I needed to drive this thing. I did and it was amazing how smooth and fast it was. When I came back home to the US I almost bought one. But the VW dealer said that they were difficult to get serviced.

Yes, you can get fairly good mileage despite going that fast. Remember that it has a diesel engine. Diesels can easily tolerate high loads without getting too inefficient. However, if driven normally (rather than aggressively or at autobahn speeds) the fuel mileage is much higher. IMO in North America it is wise to get a V10 Touareg only if it is going to be used for towing fairly often. Otherwise one should get the V8 or V6 version.
Correct. I bought an E38 740d with a 3.9 V8 diesel for the sole purpose of going very fast between cities a lot. The fuel consumption is alright even at 200km/h, maintaining that speed requires only 11liters per 100km. Same priciple applies here, but scaled up a bit. The V10 Touareg weights over 2.6 tons. Also the AWD and a shed like shape doesn't help the economy.

Still love our 2006 v10. Awesome power and ride, freight train power with a pillow smooth ride. Nobody makes anything this good anymore.

Drove this car once and it stole my heart. I will do what I can to be able to buy this in the future hopefully.
My parents bought that v10 for me as a birth gift such a great car
The performance of this vehicle is astounding! When you factor in its age and the number of miles it traveled, it's mind blowing! I want one!
5.0 and it’s a V10? It’s a tank! I know it’s not good at acceleration but I don’t think this is what’s it’s made for. This thing looks pretty spacious. I like the wooden touch and it does have good interior according to its time 🛣
Remember that most of the old school Ferrari V12s were about 3.0 liters, and the Jaguars had 3.2 and the “big” (gasp) 4.2 liter V12s.
@@andrewhigdon8346 Even as recently as the 80s and 90s, that was the case. The Ferrari F40 "only" had a 2.9L, twin-turbo V8 and the F50 had a 4.7L V12 as examples. Same story with the 288 GTO (2.8L TT V8) and the famous Berlinetta Boxer, with its 4.4-4.9L flat 12.
For a 3 ton SUV, 6.5 seconds to 100 is pretty fast.
@@C_R_O_M________ yes it is pretty fast for a size like that
Thank you for this amazing 8 minutes!!!
That's what she said!
My friend works at VW dealership for a very long time. He once said if You want to see a broken car just look at any Touareg on street. He explained they all have huge amount of mistakes and people dont have money to fix them
Damn, this car is so tired. Check engine, bunch of errors and 345k km on the counter. And still, it's so fast and amazing. I love VW.
I love the aerodynamic wing on the dashboard
Hey, Max, can you explain the purpose of the hand on the automatic shifter? Is that some special Autobahn driving technique used by experienced drivers?
I tend to do this too - I think it is a habit from driving manuals...
Or the car is stolen
It's a bad habit in a manual as it will wear the gears out due to that bit of pressure being applied to the selector mechanism.
The oil Temperature would be interesting after this Ride.
Diesel stays at 90 almost all the time
I have the same car, in Sommer after such drive i have 115-120 celsius oil Temperatures
3:00 this guy was jealous from your speed..he didn't want to keep to the right-hand of the road before slowing down you a little bit
LMAOO I thaught the same too
I live in Germany and have tried a lot of cars. Touareg NF 3,0 TDI is the best car in the world!
From Australia... I own one of these... was going to sell it but changed my mind... Just spent AUD$8k fixing faults... still think its one of the best everyday hacks around.
In my opinion, the best looking SUV, and that engine...🤤🤤
Go To fix your eyes
Подрыв у дизеля шикарный.
Десять котлов и две турбины делают свое дело
Have one of these in our family... Absolutely beast of a suv... Can tow literally anything 😁 also for a v10 bi-turbo its a quiet guy in my opinion
This is when Porsche’s son leading Volkswagen, when vw was interesting and fun
Hermosa Camioneta... Una SUV con el excelente respaldo de Volkswagen.
Was going to say that I was shocked that it made the trip without check engine and flashing lights. Then I saw the dash. My uncle was a master HD mechanic and owner his own shop for 40 years. He called these vehicles electrical write-offs. Once the lights start the vehicle won’t pass emission testing until they are cured and that’s when they get exported or sent to auction.
🤫
It is surely planted at high speed despite the age, and it covers ground fast than even newer gasoline cars despite its weight...
The electronic shocks and air springs really make a difference.
Next Step: Touareg W12 review!
I was sure it be faster (top speed) but that acceleration is so effortless I love it
It is barely quicker than a modern day Golf 1.5 TSI both in terms of topspeed as well as acceleration. But cruising at 180kph with this 2,7 ton tank definitely feels like something else compared to everything made today.
Tdi sound is wonderful bro , please test seat Leon ✌️✌️
Sounds like a monster!

What a beautiful SUV, with a seamlessly powerful engine. Love the acceleration. However the upkeep is quite expensive.
I drove the R50, even more power! That was a nice 24 hours.
How about Lada on autobahn? :D
German Autobahn🤣🤣
It's fast but I was expecting at least 260 top speed with 5000cc and more than 300hp.
Same, even my old '98 1.8 volvo v40 got up to 195km/h though it wasn't smooth at all. I suppose this one might prioritise torque over speed.
Hi from Azerbaijan 🤚 crazy car for 2004 👏

Question: is it true that yiu can drive these at it’s top speed constantly and it will still have halfway decent mpg? I once saw a guy getting 17 mpg while going top speed in one of these, and I have seen people comment on how “beastly” they are on road trips, so I really wanted to know
Yes, you can get fairly good mileage despite going that fast.
@Forsaken sweet bunny 17 mpg
Glovecase in the middle of console is terrifying. GG
i like how he is always in gloves, even in dirty cars like this one xDD
