- This song already has recordings on RUclips, but this particular recording came from a record released by the Lao People's Revolutionary Party in 1970 amidst the Laotian Civil War. It is nowadays known in English as "The Land of Freedom", though it was released as "In the Liberated Zone" at the time.

Been waiting for a Pathet Lao song for awhile tbh. Not too much written on them (at least relatively speaking). If I remember correctly they not only fought in Vietnam, but ended up beating the Americans in most (if not all) the skirmishes they were in.
They did but the Americans mistaken them for Viet Cong Troops, as they wore the same thing and the Americans would think they spoke Vietnamese (since they don’t know much about their language either). The same thing happened with the Khmer Rouge. They also thought they were Viet Cong when they stormed Cambodia, because they weren’t educated about the Khmer language either.

@@comradespongebob Pathet Lao also wore green uniforms like the NVA but unlike the Viet Cong who wore black uniforms. Pathet Lao also didn't wear scarfs like the VC and Khmer Rouge did. At least you never see scarfs on photos of Pathet Lao soldiers. Still, given that they wore the same green uniforms I doubt most GIs were able to distinguish between helmet-wearing NVA and cap-wearing Pathet Lao in the confusion and heat of combat.

Sadly there doesn’t seem to be a lot of music from the PRK out there. Even the instrumental version of the anthem and “Kampuchea is Alive Again” we’re both recorded in East Germany. The only records I’ve actually found from the period are recordings of Khmer Rouge songs published in the USA and France. One such Khmer Rouge record published in the USA is known as “Cambodian Liberation Songs”. Hah, as if.

It wasn't designed by the Pathet Lao (Laotian Communists) it was designed by a nationalist, Sila Viravong and used by the non communist, nationalist movement Lao Issara which fell decades prior to Lao PDR's formation
The flag of Laos (Lao: ທຸງຊາດລາວ; thungsad Lāo) consists of three horizontal stripes, with the middle stripe in blue being twice the height of the top and bottom red stripes. In the middle is a white disc, the diameter of the disc is 4⁄5 the height of the blue stripe. The flag ratio is 2:3. The national flag of Laos was first adopted in 1945 under the short-lived Lao Issara government of 1945-46, then by the Pathet Lao. It is one of the two flags of a currently communist country (the other being Cuba) that does not use any communist symbolism and the only current communist country that does not use a five-pointed star in its flag as an emblem. The current flag was adopted on December 2, 1975 when it became a socialist state.
