    Actually the reason Falco specifically doesn't give off a footstool sound is because his feathers are very soft and fluffy and the down on his head just absorbs all the sound.

    The footstool limit might be based on the "gravity" stat. Not to be confused with fall speed, it's how quickly characters accelerate downwards, and also affects their initial jump momentum to compensate so jump height doesn't change.

      That was my guess as well, it'd kinda explain the bonus footstool immediately after a walljump as well since you temporarily pause or lower your downward momentum getting you just above the limit for a footstool with an unstaled walljump

    Random Fact: But if you pause when the fast Mario Bros Theme, 30sec Splatoon theme or the special music that plays on the SF stage plays, the music will completely stop, something that doesn't normally happen

      @@sparkwave2 That only happens in Smash 4, in Ultimate Wrath of the Reset Bomb will keep playing and desync with the stage if you pause. Which is really annoying.

      @@marcosloldelIn mvm,it’s trash cuz mister Valve here add a frisking delay when disguise,and if u miss just one u have to use your entire cloak(which is very,VERY bad if u have dead ringer aka the best watch)
      In casual it’s fine I guess(hate the drain entire cloak thing)

    My theory of why Falco doesn't play the footstool sound normally but does when phantom footstooled is that, the footstool sound is queued to play, but the clothes ruffling sound that he makes when he's footstooled somehow overrides it. Which means when it's a phantom one, the clothes ruffling sound doesn't play, and therefore doesn't override it.

    What if footstooling is based on vertical speed, which is why every character has slightly different ones, and why footstooling out of a walljump works? Maybe walljumps give you just enough vertical speed.

      But you can still footstool characters with the wind keeping you in place, so I don't think this is correct

    I have a weird theory about the sound effect thing. You know how footstep sounds are dependant on the material you're walking on? Maybe the same underlying logic was applied to footstools. But they just gave the same footstool sound to all* materials, including the default air (for phantom footstools). But then they just forgot to apply it to the "falco" material.

    regarding the falco footstool i think i have an answer. The sound for the footstool might be tied to the animation normally and so when the animation ends or reaches a certain points then the sound gets played. In the case of phantom footstool tho, the sound can’t possibly be tied to an animation since its not played and so they “hard coded” the sound to play globally. Falco might have a missing flag in the animation and so it doesn’t play the sound, thats my educated guess

      Which makes sense since they want the sound quieter for the 2nd Ice Climber, so it can't be tied to the animation of who's doing the footstool. But does this mean a phantom footstool on the 2nd Ice Climber is full volume? This might provide your idea as more likely.

      @@Liggliluff maybe i didn’t explain myself well enough or you didn’t understand. The sound is tied to the animation of who’s getting footstooled. For the phantom one, since there is no animation it’s just coded to play the sound regardless. For the ice climbers it uses the same animation (so with the same flag) but i suppose there is an additional check for the secondary character and then lowers the volume

    Fact: Items are not the only thing that makes the combo meter red in training mode. there is a support spirit thats skill is "fast fall" it makes you go down very fast and does damage if you hit someone on your way down. This to makes the combo counter red

    I think the reason Falco has no footstool sound is the sounds are tied to the animation, so falco's animation is missing the sound, but when the animation doesn't play it goes to the default which has the footstool sound

    Footstooling is probably a factor of the "gravity" of the character against the jump speed.

    Most general sounds have reduced volume
    For example Shieldbreak oder Meteor Sound

    from what I remember in my time modding smash 4, a lot of the game's logic is actually handled through animation calls and frames, so it's actually a little weird that the game checks whether you were footstooled and not that you were put in the footstool tumble animation

    Late to this since I had to test it. The number of footstool jumps a character gets appears to be based on their "jump force". This isn't a hard coded value but is determined by their "jump height" and "gravity" using the simple formula: √(2hg)+(g/2). The higher a character's jump force, the more footstools they get (Jigglypuff's is the lowest and Greninja's the highest). The exception is Mii Gunner, who has 6 footstool jumps when it should have 5. Maybe there is some rounding error, the formula isn't 100% correct, or some other factor.
    Characters that can alter their stats (such as Shulk and Hero) can potentially change the number of jumps. Shulk with Jump has 5 footstools instead of 6... even though his jump force is really high (parameters aren't very clear so maybe a miscalculation or some other factor at play).
    Similar to what you found with walljumps potentially adding a footstool, if you footstool a short character and spam jump while moving towards a taller character you can sometimes get another footstool. There's a parameter that supposedly only allows footstools if your jump force is past a threshold, and these two actions seem to briefly put you just past that threshold.

    I think that footstool infinite works with steve and wii fit trainer because her footstool animation makes it so that it goes right under the block, causeing her hitbox to be under the block, making the block disappear after hitting it with her head. I haven’t done any testing on this at all, but it is my guess to how the not true infinite footstool works.

    This used to not be a thing in Ultimate. There was a patch that made it so a character cannot stall under the stage with a wall (Like with Bowser Jr. or Pikachu) by walljumping against the same wall multiple times.

    This is so great, I love this kind of testing for details!
    I had found the wall jumps cooldown myself sometime ago while I was trying to test the limits of wall jumps and wall clings with Squirtle.
    That might be good for a next video ✨✨

    10:11 it's so sad that we STILL don't have reliable cheap 3d shape-tweening, and when a game character transforms, we have to just put in a puff that hides the model-swap.
    Looking forward to that next video. I've discovered some translations and some things are just.. fascinating. But there are other things I don't know at all what it was like originally.

      @@Starfloofle as a kid who was obsessed with transformation sequences (and thankfully... never took that to TOO weird a place) I think about it a lot. There are so many different ways to do it in hand-drawn animation, each with their pros and cons. I was there when they invented the technology to make those Animorphs book covers, and it really left an impression on me.

    I think a test you could run for the wall jump/footstool limit is putting two walls a characters width apart, then filling it with drop through platforms. Then have characters stand in them, and see if you can wall jump/footstool up the structure

    Footstool limit.
    Does the limit reset after taking knockback damage, like up-B's?
    Footstooling Falco's no sound.
    The reason is simple. He prefers the air.
    If someone jumps on him, that makes him a ground, and therefore, makes him sad.
    And so, because he's sad, he makes no sound.

    here's a very weird thing i discovered recently in smash bros. if an enemy uses the metroid assyst trophy and it grabs you after you used your air dodge, it will give you back your air dodge and (when it damages you) it will give you another air dodge pretty much meaning that you can just infinitely air dodge as long as the assyst trophy is active. hope this helps!

    So I guess its linked to acceleration? The charts you showed only showed height not speed (which is why Mewtwo was at the top). So the game ALWAYS footstools but just doesnt show it if you cant accelerate up to the spot where you footstool (ever noticed how you snap ontop of the opponent for a footstool?)

    Off topic completely but if u can add this in a future video that would be cool. When u go to the omega version of the duck hunt stage and use wolf, when you face to the right and use up air in the side of the screen where the black parts are, The purple slash effect is gone. The rest of his aerials don’t do this except his up air. I’m not sure why it’s only when wolf faces to the right. Nor why it’s on the duck hunt stage. I didn’t try this with any other character but maybe u can experiment more with this.

    it seems like the phantom footstool is universal, since it doesn’t require a specific animation from the footstool-ee, but regular footstools need unique animations, so unique lines of code, so a space for something to be forgotten or typoed

    It seems pretty clear that the footstool limit is based on what the character's upward velocity would be after the footstool, since it's clearly reducing that upward push with each footstool. I think it's not related to jump height directly because the character's weight figures more prominently into a push that has to *reverse their direction* to be upwards, rather than just jumping from a standstill.

    The footstool timers are probably hard coded per fighter and are based on general recovery potential (like factoring in linearity and vertical travel)

    10:44 I think it's more likely the sound is just tied to the animation of being footstooled and there's a failsafe that makes it play during phantom footstools that doesn't require it to play when the animation actually works.

    Theres this weird glitch me and some friends found that i want to share. If doctor mario grabs piranha plant and back throws him while a cannon on either a custom stage or great cave is at a higher vertical level and in front of the then piranha plant will teleport into the cannon.
    Btw very little testing has been done for this and for whatever reason it only works in battle arenas

    When you take Fox’s gravity into account, it might be that his jump “force” is more than Palu, even though the actual height is lower.
    It seems like characters have some kind of “current jump force” state that is decreased by footstools and walljumps. Presumably when it hits 0, you can no longer footstool. Something about doing your FIRST walljump must guarantee that this value goes above 0, giving you another footstool.

    smaller and probably better-known fact that i think some people might still find interesting: the sound effect for footstooling an opponent comes from the nes version of super mario bros. 2/super mario bros. usa, where it's used when lifting an enemy or vegetable! i find it kinda strange how the footstooling sound is taken from the one mario game where footstooling isn't a thing, i think it might have been used because it fit pretty well and was already in the game from peach's down special

    For the Falco footstool thing. I might just be throwing sticky hands at a wall but… what if it’s somehow attached to his model. There are a lot of sounds in the game that are intuitively interrupted if their character is interrupted. So maybe, for some ungodly reason Falco plays his footstool sound effect rather than the game. So when he’s “phantom footstooled” he doesn’t get interrupted and thus the sound effect plays out fully. The only way I could think to test this is to have something else that would interrupt sound effects hit him. Like a rapid jab, or beast ball. Then phantom footstool him to see what happens.
    Quick disclaimer: This is based off of absolutely nothing besides pure intuition. I totally get if this isn’t tested. At some point soon I’ll test it on my own and this comment will be updated accordingly.

    I don't think it was mentioned, but for testing footstools, you don't have to mash jump. If you put on tap jump, just hold up. It'll footstool the first possible frame.
    I can't recall if you can just hold up and get all the footstools or just 1 till you hit up again.
    This could be common knowledge but not everyone runs tap jump, so it could be neat to someone.

    Being able to footstool 1 extra time after wall jumping is probably how it would work in Rivals of Aether if that game had footstooling. Seeing that happen weirded me out because up to that point, I'd had to tell myself to stop expecting mechanics in this video to work like Rivals of Aether since I've gotten more used to that game than Smash.

    Messing around with items, figured out you can't footstool someone while they're in the 'been footstooled' animation when using the slowdown timer. Also can't footstool on enemies while they have the Starman powerup active. I was expecting Phantom Footstools with these interactions, but it just doesn't let you footstool at all.

    Gravity is different from Fall Speed by the way (for the Footstool limit)
    gravity is, well, gravity
    and fall speed is terminal velocity
    so maybe the Gravity stat determines it

    I assume that the game just checks if they would get any upward momentum from the footstool, and if they won't then the footstool is cancelled.

    Also sometimes on final destination when you do up b as ike on the bottom on the right in a specific location ike's sword will go through the stage im not i dont think it happens when a character is above it but i could have just missed

    maybe you should start some sort of wiki series (similar to the smash one) but about tf2 on the second (or even main) channel? i think that could be an interesting idea for both returning fans of the channel and newer viewers who maybe wouldnt be interested in nintendo focused content.

    Have you tried footstooling when you do the wall cling? As in Characters that can wall cling like Diddy, Lucario, Squirtle or Bayonetta? Since these characters have an "Extra Jump" by tapping up while in wall cling.

    It's also weird that if you Footstool Donkey Kong with any Character you're not on top of the Character, like in case of the rest of the cast, you just get send up and a little bit forward

    i wonder if footstool limit is based on weight/fallclass (or whatever its called like fox is fast faller dk is a heavy etc) more weight id imagine = less footstool
