John…please review the CHAMBERED MAHOGANY Fender Player II Stratocaster HSS and/or Fender Player II Telecaster. They’re both available in Transparent Cherry with Rosewood Fingerboard.

Great video ... I like what you said Looks like the American performer made in America , this is made in mexico .. Yes correct.. about 100 miles away... But you save $800.00...no brainer by the Player II ..

I own a HSS Player Plus Top. The three pickup polarities are all the same, so it hums in positions four, two and ONE! The humbucker does not buck hum. Meanwhile, the guitar I tried recently (looks like the one in this video) is hum cancelling in those three positions so Fender can do this when it chooses to.

According to the tech info for the Player II on Fender's website in position 2 the bridge humbucker is split with the middle pickup. I might buy one of the Player II necks when they become available and swap it out with my original player neck though.

Will Fender ever make a Mick Mars signature strat?

The beige plastics first things to change. Vintage tuners can stay.

Crazy how dark some of the fretboards are.

I just upgraded to this from a Squire Strat. Hopefully, I can get to your level of playing as my next goal :D

Went back to rosewood as an upgrade. Sounds like Samsung going flat-screen. Lol

I'm happy about the return of rosewood though. I like it and maple preferred.

I believe its because the Pau ferro they used in the original player series wasn't as dark looking as advertised and I hear some people complain about having to use lemon oil to darken the neck wood to make it look more like a traditional dark wood

@intense_vibration Haven't yet but I am heading for a couple of shops next week to try a few with rosewood and maple fretboard in sss and hss and most important light in weight because I don't like heavy guitars

I didnt see you activate the hum-b with the 'pull'' bottom rotary switch?

This guitar sounds pretty good and Fender-authentic, and I felt the American Performer sounded noticeably better. IF you have the skill to match them, the Player ii with an upgraded set of pickups gives the American Performer a run for its money for hundreds less IMO.

What pickups would you upgrade to? I just ordered this but I'm still new so will be fine for a while, IF I get good, would like to know what to look for next instead of just a new guitar. :D

    how is the tuning stability??

  • @markpell8979

P4 really cut the clear highs off the neck pickup. I play P2&4 a lot for humbucking on my only Strat which has 3 singles. Those weren't my favorite positions on this Strat. Overall this guitar sounds great.

The player I had a split in position 4, so this is a little surprising, but all told this sounds really good.
