i missed them entirely until the 'eardrum-buzz'-was the best there'd-ever-bee, ha ha, but i was deeply stung to find they'd up'n'quit twittin'! but i'm over that forevermore: i won't twit anymore either~
I remember when they came out for this. They did a meet and greet at the Virgin mega store in Hollywood. Both XTC and Virgin are no more. Crazy how life just moves on.
In a world where the term genius is so over-used, Andy is certainly an exception, as was XTC. I've been a fan since I heard the first song Take This Town when I was 17. Yeeech, I guess Time Square was an actual goldmine. Thank you for this video.
What an album, top 5 fav all time records. It’s so subjective of course, but it had a profound impact. Andy is most certainly a truly brilliant creative force, and Colin I found to be equally so on this record. The breadth of contrast in his bass tone and playing style adds so much interest and depth to the songs, which are quite eclectic in themselves across the album. I wish he’d discussed these things in the interview.. perhaps wasn’t fielded the questions. ‘Fruit Nut’ is one of Colin’s babies too. “..because it keeps me sssssaaaaaane..” So good. A very good choice of session drummer one feels too- how perfect is the groove in the chorus of, ‘Harvest Festival’?!?! Those off beats. Why ‘I’d Like That’ isn’t still played on radio stations far & wide I cannot understand. A true rare gem of an album for all ages and walks of life. Thank you for the upload! 🙌🫶
So sad their fame and fortune never equaled their genius. If it did, they'd be up there with the Beatles, Stones, Who, Floyd, etc. I just wonder how they're doing financially.
I honestly can't get how people miss out their last 2 albums when they talk of 'XTC s best albums'. The track Easter Theatre!!! That along only with Joni Mitchell's Both sides now just destroy me. Oh the wonderful wonderful XTC so greatful to have had their music in my life.
@@duffbaker9554 hey, baker! i was just playin': guitahs're for playin', but words work slower if not smarter, good call!! i figured if duff can't take a little guff, then how much would not be enough?
I like these guys so much. They're so smart and creative. They would be fun to hang-out with. They're like the guys who were too smart for success and they got ripped off by their management company.
I never saw this interview at the time. Makes me sad to see it now.....Applevenus was so new, the new XTC album, wow!! The comeback. It may as well be now but it's not, it's twenty years ago and we're all fat and old.
I remember back to the late 60's sitting in a barber shop after my grandmother dropped me off there after giving the barber his instructions on how to cut my hair, I was five in 1967. I remember the mag rack with all the Playboys on it wishing I could go pick one up and start thumbing through it like the "Real Men" were.... I remember one man told the barber to trim his eyebrows because, as he said it...." I'm starting to look like that damn Soviet Leader Brezhnev. He actually looked a bit like him....lol
@@whouster that one still blows away anything by any beatle or even human! i bet they're still debating how that thing was allowed down here on so-called-earth!
I love Andy dearly, but singing a little song like Shoe Shine Blues" there during the interview with a really bad black accent...while a black gentleman was giving him a shoeshine? I don't think he has a clue, as a snotty Brit, what he just did there and how offensive it was. So on that note alone, I will give him a break.

+Gonzalo Laguado Serpa Yes, because the progressives have worked to keep everyone in boxes. And being uncomfortable around people of other races because you don't know what you can and can't say is not racism. You won't rethink your position, of that i'm sure. But maybe someone else will read this.
Lol... Really, these kind of stereotypes still exist? How the fuck, and why the fuck, would you assume such a thing? Skin pigmentation doesn’t determine artistic and aesthetic taste, and never will, period. 🧐😑
I love and miss these 2 working together. Also the longest haircut I've ever seen for someone who has no hair.
a shorter haircut, i never wanna have to see! okay, but i see 'em e'ry day!
they'll grow-on-ya
Colin's speaking voice is so nice
rather not unlike that of the sting-man, like, i wonder who might qualify to be his 'wing', man!
I appreciate you finding and sharing this, friend. Thank you.
I miss XTC dearly. And yes, Andy is a genius.

colin is awesome! awesomely lucky, or was: at least he's got that one drummer, but he-don't-get, *me*-----------
@@tinfoilhatter Seems a bit shy. :)
Andy Partridge seems like a very intelligent and interesting guy!
In hairdressing school there is a subject called "how to lengthen a haircut to justify the charge".
Inspired my band The Toms and these guys write melodies like no other modern songwriters past the Beatles!
I love how Andy said "dirty" like durdy.
True English, eccentric genius' ! Great !
egocentric, egg-zactly, mate!
From DVD Magazine called Circuit
if we need too much approval,,,,,,then the cuts-can-seem-too-cruel!

their genius, was the, uh drummer for the tubes, i thought:
a lot can happen in seven-years'-time, but a lot also just won't! should they have sold out for a lot more? debatable, eh? (ha ha, just kidding)
Not brilliantly.
The were ripped off by a poor deal made worse by their manager repeatedly failing to negotiate anything better.
This is so fucking great!!

An impromptu Partridge snippet about Willie, Monica and the cigar. Gotta love him! I wonder if he ever fleshed it out into a finished song?
probably did and it was the sexual record that was rejected

Thanks Egidio !!
Andy's boots@7.48-what style/brand of boot is that? They are terrific.
I thought the thumbnail was Lars von Trier and I still think that.

Thanks for posting Egidio!
Where do you find this stuff, Egidio? Great!
I hope that barber did the decent thing and gave Andy his money back😀

Have you ever seen Colin and Austin Powers in the same room...together???😁
To turntapzap: That song is "I'd Like That".
a nice cut and shave under the influence of xtc.
Andy Partridge looks like Lars von Trier here, though a little better.
why does this video exist why are they just getting a trim 😭whos idea was this
literally nothing in this video was benefited by the added visuals of those scissors whisping around that bald little head. im giggling
It's so funny I love it
What is that first song?
River of Orchids.

They are both no Callas but if you ask me Andy singing more proficient.
colin just needs to sit there and look pretty! and stick to the bass! just kidding! i heard, andy can cover the bass fairly well anyway, eh?

If you can get APPLE/VENUS it's well worth it .I bet not one of those black guys had heard of or would listen to XTC. their loss .
jsilence418 how do you know that?
I'm a black guy from Philadelphia and have listened to XTC since I was about 12.Don't presume what people "had heard of or would listen to".
That's a little bit of a racist assumption.
