    Meet Yuri Kasyanov, a Ukrainian activist who raises money from ordinary people to buy supplies for the Ukrainian army, and every day risks his life to deliver them to the front lines.
    VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky met up with Kasyanov in eastern Ukraine and traveled with him to checkpoints as he supplied soldiers with flak jackets and food.
    As the crisis in Ukraine continues, it has become more apparent that the government isn't efficiently taking care of its own forces. But as Petro Poroshenko's presidency begins, the prospect of change is appearing to be possible.

    How can he STILL say Russia invaded Crimea? Russia was ALLOWED to have UP to 25,000 troops in Crimea through a treaty back from the 1960s. Russia up to the crisis had ONLY about 15,000 troops in Crimea. So any additional troops that Russia may have sent to Crimea still abided by that treaty.

      People can live where ever they want by moving but a foreign country sends troops into Crimea while the Russia president announces the referendum then that is aggression and an invasion.
      The referendum was simply an excuse to legitimize the takeover of the territory. let me tell you something. Using that tactic, you can take over pretty much any territory you want by following these instruction:
      1. make sure large russian population in the wanted territory.
      2. If not, make people move there and wait at least 5 to 15 years
      3. Use media to tell those people that they are being oppressed and start separatist sentiment.
      4. Cause a major internal problem for the government of that territory.
      5. Announce a referendum and invade while the other country is in disarray.
      6. Announce results of the referendum with huge support for independence.
      .

    • @cmatrix4761
      @cmatrix4761 10 лет назад +3

      natrone23 And it was wonderful that they helped. But this situation is different; in that situation, they were tracking down terrorists in a foreign country. Source security of the care packages wasn't a big deal because it came from a whole other continent. In this case, the care packages are coming from inside their own country during a civil war. From the very same kind of people that they're fighting. It would be easy to slip in a cellphone or night-vision goggles with a passively activated GPS tracker or surveillance device.

      Copenhagen Wintergreen
      Appeasement has a bad name since Hitler. If Putin moves into Ukraine, he will be seen to be on an expansionist course the Western Allies historically only know to be stopped via confrontation.
      I bloody hope none starts shooting but I don't see NATO accepting any more BS from Russia. I could imagine NATO intervening to prevent Russia moving too far west (demarcation line at the Dnjeper), sending unrestricted military aid, activate all sanctions they can think of and when in doubt start crap everywhere Russia has an interest in, e.g. sending a fuckload of weapons to Syria etc. so that naval base gets closed, stir trouble in central asia, invite Georgia to join NATO asap, pull Finland and Sweden into a mutual defense agreement and escalate to an arms race knowing the West will economically benefit from this more than Russia.
      The scary thing is that various NATO generals already said that from a military standpoint this stuff is the next thing NATO must do so we can only hope Putin does not proceed with a military escalation.

      Not from Russia but you do tend to like a lot of RT videos and other slanted sources, hence my brash comment. Yes, there is a valid concern there about donating to insurgents (like many overseas Islamic charities that claim to fund Madrassas). In this case though Vice is following around Ukrainian Army Units so at the very least in this example the charity is sponsoring official armed units (check out there Facebook page for further documentation too).

      Vladislav Bondarenko Just a warning to anyone else that both of the linked videos are very graphic. That said, I've already seen them both. It's sad that there were civilian casualties, but there are always civilian casualties in war. The administration building was filled with armed individuals. If they didn't want civilian casualties, they shouldn't have encouraged civilians to stay with them inside of an occupied building. They all knew the risks.
      As for the fire, there's absolutely no evidence that it was arson. Most neutral reports state that the most likely cause of the fire were Molotov cocktails accidentally going off on the roof. Given just how occupied the building was by separatists, I find it highly unlikely a "pro-junta" arsonist managed to sneak in and start a fire on the roof. However, as usual, only blame is given, instead of context.

    Simon tries to make it look like the Ukrainian army is some sort of the underdog in that fight, when its anything but. They have the advantage both in numbers and the equipment, and are using tanks, APC's, aircraft, attack helicopters against freedom fighters who are desperate enough to use WWII-era anti-tank guns. Thats is when they're even attacking them, and not ordinary civilians, like in Luhansk a few days ago when the Kiev airforce killed 5 civilians in an indiscriminate attack.

      the separatist are just as well armed as the ukrainian army since a lot of them are ukrainian defectors with stolen equipment from army barracks and police stations plus they are well armed by the russian govt they even have heat seeking anti air weapons also that attack wasnt "indiscriminate " it was a planned attack on the separatist town hall building they just missed and accidentally killed civilians its a shame but thats war

    • @Haloreach2323
      @Haloreach2323 10 лет назад +1

      Sorry if I sound uneducated on the situation but is it Russia and Ukraine vs the freedom fighters. And are the freedom fighters also Ukrainian. Sorry but I am just kind of confused.

    • @srb00
      @srb00 10 лет назад +4

      Haloreach2323 Russia does obviously turn a blind eye to volunteers coming in from Russia, but there are also volunteers from Germany, Poland etc also fighting on the side of the freedom fighters. But judging by the really old weapons and equipment Russia is not providing them any material help.
      You can see in the various videos on youtube the rebels using PTRS-41 rifles which date back to 1938, rebels basically dont have any artillery or means to hold off the Kiev tanks and armored vehicles which are attacking the cities in the east. Lets not even mention the airstrikes.

    • @srb00
      @srb00 10 лет назад +2

      WasntmeLT what are you talking about, they are obviously very much inferior in terms of equipment as well as numbers. There are hundreds of Kiev's main battle tanks and APC' now encircling and shelling the small town of Slavyansk. The freedom fighters have two APCs (which they captured from the the governments forces). The advantage is so disproportionate its really silly to even discuss it.

      Russia can't 'officially' engage in conventional warfare against Ukraine because that would pull the entire western world into the fight. They can only send militia and unmarked parts of their military acting as terrorists. Ukraine can surround the pro-russian occupied areas and employ a total wipe-out technique to clean them of hostile elements. They'd then just have to hold the borders with Russia and all would be well again.
      As a reference: Even Afghanistan managed to kick out the Russians with some US aid to the Mujahideen in the form of Stinger launchers.
