Don't shift blame because the offender didn't know all the facts. Doesn't matter that OP was mentioned at home during their "breaks" in their relationship. OOP’s husband is part of the problem as well, he should never have kept the reason for the breakup ambiguous to his mother, especially when he started to notice his mom didn’t like his new girlfriend and know the two family’s circumstances. Doesn’t at all excuse what she did or justified it in anyway, because how can that friendship be if it is falling apart because their children fell out of love or broke up for whatever reason?
Even if OOP stole the friends family’s daughter boyfriend, How can the friendship be if it’s being damaged so heavily by the heartbreak of friends family’s daughter? Sometimes relationships simply don’t work out, and MlL should’ve taken a moment and asked her son the truth. And if she did, husband should have given it to her or already openly volunteered it with the hope that it wouldn’t damage the friendship. I can understand where the bit of resentment comes from because most a lot of friendships from older and traditional generations are very conditional friendships, OOP is right to never let MIL’s stunt go, but the whole thing was easily preventable.

Well something that Nick pointed out. What if she didn't cheat and they grew apart organically? The mom CLEARLY still would've hated whomever he brought home. Because she internally absolved Nick of any wrongdoing. And then brought Vicky to the wedding to show what a "Good Wife" is. The mom was invested in the image of them, not them. Even after the families drifted apart, she still stayed in contact with Vicky in hopes of the being together. BOTH families moved on and just let life continue. She couldn't wrap her head around it. And as you can see even after everything came Tina STILL blamed OP for what happened even though it was HER fault. SHE treated her bad without knowing the facts. SHE had Vicky come to the wedding and embarrass her on her wedding day. SHE tried to guilt trip her instead genuinely apologizing to her family. And then WENT OUT OF HER WAY to TEAM UP with Vicky of all people. You know the person who CHEATED ON HER SON, to help get rid of OP. Telling her that Vicky cheated wouldn't have helped because she was invested in having Vicky as a daughter, not her son being happy.

How was it cheating if they were on “break” op comes across as a serious “pick me” that was just waiting around for the opportunity to snatch nick.

I think you are the a**hole because you weren't letting her apologize and forgiving for vengeance cause she didn't treat you right for three. And if her son talked about you all the time he came home, he was emotionally attracted to you and had feelings for you

The problem is that the mother was a busybody and nosey person that didn't respected her son's wishes and autonomy. It was not up to her to decide if Vicky was good for him or not. They have broken up and he could date whoever he wished. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes

MIL was likely exaggerating how much he talked about OP and it's ridiculous to reason 'that he was emotionally attracted' to her because they were friends. People are allowed to talk about their friends. MIL clearly wasn't sorry because she immediately started teaming up with Vicki again the moment OP said no. OP's not the a**hole, you're just dense not to see though the MIL's BS.
