Beautiful peace man! I really love how the edge of the San Mai came out! Apparently Darth Vader was in the room as you were putting a coat of finish on the handle… He must’ve been very pleased!
This is so cool. During quarantine I started Forged in Fire and am now deep down the youtube hole and learning so much. Broadswords and katanas are fun and all, but this is the kind of blade you can use everyday.
Thank you! I'll probably make another like it. If you want to get on my email list you can go to the website and sign up, another option is to follow on Facebook, I post a lot of available pieces there too. links are in video description. Thanks!
@@FireCreekForge awesome!! Also, the fact you replied to my comment honestly just made me scream. I love your videos and I’ve learned a lot myself in bladesmithing from you
@@feralcarbonfiber1775 Yes, it helps protect the steel, and leaves a fine layer of carbon, which can help the welding process. It's possible to exclusively use diesel, kerosene, or WD-40 with no flux, but I didn't do that here. Thanks for watching!
Nice knife. Possibly a silly question but is there a reason you don’t just drill your handle pin holes before you harden it? Not a criticism just a question.
Glad you like it! This one is sold, but if you are interested in another one please message me from my website or Facebook, links are in the video description. Thanks!
Wow man beautiful knife! Loving your hydraulic press! Looks like your post vice could benefit from a spring😜 thanks for the build video! Did you see my latest sword build?
Beautiful work. I wonder what the weight of your knife is? (I’m curious because I live in Thailand and smaller sized blades here weigh a good 2+ pounds, which seems a lot for prolonged use. I had many and eventually gave them all away.)
Man that’s freaking awesome… I’ve always loved the look and functionality of the parang.
What a gorgeous tool. Functional and beautiful at the same time.

what is the name of this liquid that you leave the billet before putting it in the forge to start the brazing?
That is diesel. It helps protect the steel prior to the forge welding.
Nicely done. What wood did you use for the handle? Thanks for taking us along.
Thank you! I used Desert Ironwood on this one.
What were you soaking the billet in after welding and before you put it in your forge?
Diesel :)
@@FireCreekForge Thats awesome, is it a way to prevent oxidation?

Hey, I just found your channel through suggested videos. That was a great! Keep up the awesome content brother. Just sub’d up, cheers!
Hello. What are the approximate dimensions of that beautiful Chopper? Thank you
About 9.5" blade if I remember...
Nice knife. Possibly a silly question but is there a reason you don’t just drill your handle pin holes before you harden it? Not a criticism just a question.
Yeah, I usually do it that way
what do you dip your billet into before putting it into the forge?
Awesome work mate!!!
Thanks! that is diesel, helps shield the steel and leaves a layer of carbon
@@FireCreekForge awesome to learn! Im making a small series on forging a damascus knife, thats going to be useful!! Thank you very much!

Thanks! Yes the press is super handy to have. I need to fix that, yah. I'll have to check out your build.
Я правильно понял? Пакет из инструментальной стали снаружи ,а рессора внутри?
High carbon spring steel in the center with the nickel content steel on the outside, correct.
What does putting it In the toaster oven do? Sorry i dont forged just curious..awesome videos..btw forged in fire ..is waiting for you 😉😉
Its just a preliminary temper cycle while my kiln cools down. I've actually been on Forged In Fire, Season 6 Episode 8 :)
Keren👍
How did you get the hamon?
It's a laminate or "san-mai" blade, that is what you're seeing.
Beautiful work.
I wonder what the weight of your knife is?
(I’m curious because I live in Thailand and smaller sized blades here weigh a good 2+ pounds, which seems a lot for prolonged use. I had many and eventually gave them all away.)
Thanks! I'd have to weigh it, don't know for sure. Its probably not that heavy

Hello, yes you can. Pleas email me from the contact form on my website, firecreekforge.com and we can set up a custom order.
How is this san mai? Do you know what San Mai actually means? I mean it's a nice enough chopper but that's not 3 layers
I love to have that wwhhhoooh can I..
Sorry, this one is already sold
@@FireCreekForge OK bro
Never put your hand through a loop attached to your chopper. When it deflects its bound to end up in your own body parts.

Why did you cut it why don't you just heat it up and fold it onto itself
You could do it that way but would take longer and with more waste
Weird not hearing commentary
