Immense skill. IMMENSE. Musicians are reaching insane levels of ability nowadays, but 99.9999% lack feel and maturity. Just watch Stef's wrists. Total, fully-realized maturity. Among the greatest, if not THE greatest, prog-metal drummers. Missing Textures a lot watching this...... Thx, Stef
awesome technique, nice flow - that's what I call drumming. It's really nice to see that there are still some metal drummers that don't only rely on blasts and heavy doublebass-strokes
man... it's so hard for me to catch that shit he does at the begining... I separately understand the kick, the snare, the ride. get all together, I miss every hit lol
you know its crazy hard when you see guys like this counting aswell as probably having a metronome. of course counting is a great habit to have whether or not you are playing hard music, but yeah stef is a god edit: said same word twice
Bro I'm with you... been listening to textures for ever, I STILL CANT DO THAT RIDE, together Can do 2 out of 3 together, any combination, but all 3 wrecks me😂
He's definitely one of the most exciting drummers out there right now along with Blake Richardson and Matt Halpern. That tom and snare section at 3.00 is orgasmic.
Yea it's pretty much as hard as it get's. If you put the bell and the bassdrum in notes on paper, you can see that they are not in line. not a single bit. my drum teacher explained to me that is kind of 2 different "drum worlds" that aren't meant to be played together. haha
@Rougarou13 also I never trashed the 4/4 just pointed out that people never really complain about it. Most of the people who bash blasting are fans of rock, jazz, and all of these styles do the exact same thing, but get almost no shit for it.
@felixj401 It's not that odd in itself. Triplets ;) But since the other parts (snare/bass drum) are not triplets, we have this fun polyrhythmic thing going on.
um those "things on the ride" r called polyrythms they add more dynamics to the song. its also called being unique not everyone wants hear the same old ride pattern. its played like that for a reason hence the band name TEXTURES
@Rougarou13 Either you're a good troll, as shown by the two up votes, or you are fairly new to the genre. Over the last decade metal has pumped out a plethora of creative, ambitious, and technical groove driven drummers to diversify the field of metal drums to the max. Poke your head around some of the mixed metal scenes such as funk metal or progressive, you will probably be pleasantly surprised.
@SuloFlow again, I was referring to what I have seen on sickdrummerdotcom. WAY TO READ. And no I'm not a troll. I love drums and I love being a drummer, I just get sick of kick snare kick snare kick snare kick snare kick snare as fast as you can to show that your some kind of insanely skilled drummer (Which is the exact opposite). Theres a lot of options on the drums, just a lot of the videos on here don't show them.
@Rougarou13 But like I said music is subjective so you can feel however you want by it, but I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon and just judge all these drummers becuase they play what many beleive is a key part of their specific musics style.
@BurnThePope0514 Why are you arguing? I really don't get it, we're probably 1.200 miles apart. And you're arguing over some pretty insignificant stuff... I'm just posting that I'm thankful theres a non blasting video, due to the fact that I hope sickdrummerdotcom see's that and starts posting more drummers like Stef. Just give it a rest burnthepope... I like a lot of different music, you probably do to. So just drop it.
@BurnThePope0514 You know, for making a claim that music is subjective. After lecturing me on music. You're pretty much being a hypocrite. All I have stated is the fact that I was finally glad to see a video where the metal drummer isn't going crazy with blasts. It gets old, it would be just as you said everyone playing a simple 4/4. Your post is moot.
Such an underrated drummer. Seriously. This is some of the coolest, most complex, grooviest stuff I've seen.
I love how dynamic and human his playing is. Much more musical to me.
Drummers are not human, this dude has some of the coolest drum parts!
Stef Broks = one of my fav drummers. This guy has a unique style like no other.
Thx, Stef
Stef is simply one of the best and out of time! Holy sh... The guy is unique ❤🙌☝️
awesome technique, nice flow - that's what I call drumming. It's really nice to see that there are still some metal drummers that don't only rely on blasts and heavy doublebass-strokes
Holy crap a metal drummer who doesnt have to blast every 2 seconds. I like this.
The Hemiolas are strong in this one
You just watched Garrett.
🤔
Flawless, absolutely flawless...
That pause at 2:55 should be at the original song. it just kicks ass!
They used to do that live
man... it's so hard for me to catch that shit he does at the begining... I separately understand the kick, the snare, the ride. get all together, I miss every hit lol
4/4 beat. Ride is playing 6:4 poly, snare accents beat 3, kick is introductory riff which has triplets sprinkled on beats 1 and 3.
Alexandre Prince spot on, nice
you know its crazy hard when you see guys like this counting aswell as probably having a metronome. of course counting is a great habit to have whether or not you are playing hard music, but yeah stef is a god
edit: said same word twice
Bro I'm with you... been listening to textures for ever,
I STILL CANT DO THAT RIDE, together
Can do 2 out of 3 together, any combination, but all 3 wrecks me😂
This song, that intro beat, this album, daaaaaaaaaamn
Can I thumbs up this like a thousand times?
One hand to raise a thousand thumbs
He's definitely one of the most exciting drummers out there right now along with Blake Richardson and Matt Halpern. That tom and snare section at 3.00 is orgasmic.
There are very less 'drum covers' of Textures in the tube.
Here's why.
Such an awesome drummer
pretty sure nobody else has 3 videos on here. what a boss.
Had a great time with him at the Euroblast Festival in Cologne. Awesome drummer, super funny guy.
Stef is such an insane drummer. And Textures is a kickass band.
I put a rubiks cube in front of my speakers and when this was done it solved itself.
This looks like a really fun song to play!! Great drumming
Great footage and amazing playing!!
The main riff is one of the most challenging things I have ever heard.
The best Drummer!
GODDD BLESS LEFT HANDED DRUMMERS!!!!!! ;D
Amazing
pure talent! \,,/
best of the beast
Just wow
This is a REAL sick drummer.
Yea it's pretty much as hard as it get's. If you put the bell and the bassdrum in notes on paper, you can see that they are not in line. not a single bit. my drum teacher explained to me that is kind of 2 different "drum worlds" that aren't meant to be played together. haha
the ride pattern is a quarter note triplet over 4 sixteenth notes
@Rougarou13 also I never trashed the 4/4 just pointed out that people never really complain about it. Most of the people who bash blasting are fans of rock, jazz, and all of these styles do the exact same thing, but get almost no shit for it.
Awesome.
Just.....wow.....
2:33 was sick dude!!! nice work
Listen up youtube....... Best drummer of his genre!! No arguments! check out exivious his side project if you like the jazzy drum patterns!!! Sick!
Playing on one hi-hat and keeping the other going. Nice.
WOAH , jESUS. HE IS AWE..FUCKING HELL
Love the 6/8 over 4/4
@Rougarou13 I wasn't trying to be a jerk, sorry. I didn't know you were referring to just sickdrummerdotcom.
Monster!
2:30 + one of best fill in metal drumming;)
I like the odd time signatures with the ride cymbal
Totally agree
I put a rubiks cube in fron of my speakers and when this was done... I went to the musicschool for a jam session.
Signed,
Buzz Killington
YES
Yeah I noticed that as well, loved it, bit more organic vibe. But I'm a ghost-note addict...
We can actually hear the ghostnotes here, much better than on the album.
Ik ook!
They look like Evans EC2 to me. Anything out of the EC series, at least. They all have that sound control thingy around the edge.
Why wasnt that china choke on the album!? 😳😳
pretty good woik boyo!
@felixj401 Is it odd time or just metric modulation?
2:55 dudes! best part xD sooo cool
@glacier2win I was talkinga bout on here. Sorry I probably should have included that in my post.
@Heieneken86
Is that right Mr. Poopypants?
@Rougarou13 no like my second post said your open to your on oppion, my point was why just jump on it and bash them
F*%^ me! The poly in the verse is ridiculously hard.
@lardplanet wtf? lament means to grieve. "Laments of an Icarus" means there's an Icarus who grieves. not that an icarus died.
I was wondering if I was the only who noticed haha. but yeah on the album it sounds awesome.
Fucking awesome performance, much better than the one in the album itself!!
@SuloFlow again, I was referring to what I have seen on sickdrummerdotcom. WAY TO READ. And no I'm not a troll. Same here
@glacier2win and since you're so specific, I mean on sickdrummerdotcom
laments means grief or sorrow it doesn't mean it died... BTW PERIPHERY LOVE THAT SHIT!!!!
@Rougarou13 But like I said music is subjective so you can feel however you want by it, but I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon and just judge all these drummers becuase they play what many beleive is a key part of their specific musics style.
BOSS
That's why Textures sounds a little darker than Periphery
anyone know what heads he has on his toms?
I can play this song exactly like Stef does. If you set the video to 0.5 time ...
Yeah!, you guys always save the best for later eh?
@purestwrath Awesome :)
and it's a lefty, me gusta
Yeaah I think this is 4/4. Pretty sure...
the main riff is so hard.
Please excuse me while I touch myself at awkward time signatures.
@BurnThePope0514 Why are you arguing? I really don't get it, we're probably 1.200 miles apart. And you're arguing over some pretty insignificant stuff... tech yet tasty
0:10 if only that ride triplet was more precise... =/ ...anyway, it is a brilliant drum groove
I wonder what it would be like to drum on a left-handed drum kit...
So,periphery releases the icarus lives, textures gets angry and kill icarus...they name a song after his death and here we are.
@Rougarou13 Nicko McBrain...Sean Reinert...
Do you mean better? More well- composed? Less cliche?
este ritmito estábien sabrozón... dice el chino
this song reminds me heaps of gojira
@BurnThePope0514 You know, for making a claim that music is subjective. After lecturing me on music. You're pretty much being a hypocrite. @lardplanet these bands never agree
no. he means darker.
textures Ownd alle andere nederlandse bands
can u send me this on my mail? ;)
sorry bro, his wings melted, and he crashed into the ocean :(
Nice drumming. I never know Textures til now. He needs to eat more cheese burger though, lol
Lefty drummers freak the shit out of me.
Rythmic exercise
That intro gave me a seizure
