I have been listening to the PRO for about 40 years. As a teenager I must have been distinctly odd, but I was also listening to the likes of The Who and Pink Floyd at the same time. Their musical professionalism is second to none. Their records represent a perfect rejuvenation of the popular music of 100 years ago. The PRO has stuck true to its mission for 50 years, and has clearly influenced the likes of many other bands from High Society and the Palm Court Theatre Orchestra in the 1980s to Alex Mendham today. With the possible exception of the Temperance Seven (who were really more Trad Jazz influenced), the PRO are the founders of a tradition in British popular music that has hitherto gone undocumented. What I would really love to see one day is a day-long festival of this wonderful music starring the PRO and featuring those who have followed in their wake. The general public needs to be reminded of their outstanding talents. Long may they reign supreme!
Thanks Adrian, when I saw the age of some of the Glastonbury performers I felt quite young. I like the festival idea, alas big open air concerts like Kew Gardens have a different slant these days
I have always enjoyed the PRO. Back in the 1970s you really felt you were stepping back in time listening them. I really enjoyed John Pazz Parrys vocals and would love to see more videos with him singing.
