Thanks so much for the kind words. I did the tuning...although to be honest, there wasn't a lot of tweaking that needed to be done on them. That Tama/Aquarian combo just sounded great whether you took them up or down in tuning. And I'll agree with you...their engineers and production team are top notch. They made the work an absolute breeze.
This site/group of teachers are amazingly generous with their knowledge, I’ve played drums for over 30 years and I’ve learnt more than I could imagine through drumeo
A month ago, I was watching a lesson on Stephen's channel and thought: "How awesome would it be if Stephen and Jared connected"... Few weeks later I saw a clip of him playing in the Drumeo studio on Faceboo, and now I found out he has been working as satellite instructor for 3 years already!!! What can I say but, thank You, God! God bless you all!
I love your tape!,! Now is the end of my second year. Started in October. Getting ready for my second recital. Am calling it "Fourth Bar Fills". Still love it. I still love it. Will be 75 in January. Thank you again! Bettina
Fantastic lesson. Am a senior Love drumming. October is the end of my second yr. My second recital is called Fourth Bar Fills. Thank you for your Easy To Remember fills. I surprised my teacher last week with the Eighth note Build. I sneaked it in. He looked happy, he knows I practice a lot. Thanks again. Bettina
Love this! Self taught "drummer" here for 25 years, just starting to play at church after not playing on a stage for almost 20 years. Having names for fills will definitely help me when trying to learn all these new songs. Never used fill names before, but I'm about to start! Will steal some of yours and make up some of my own names, thanks! Also liked how you talked about simplifying when you need to. I have those days where my foot does not want to double up very well for some reason. "Why won't you work today?!" Always thought that I was the only one that happens to.
I just wanted to say you’re a great teacher. I teach high school English, and want to learn to play the drums. I love your use of rhythmic mnemonics. You’re a better teacher than more than 90% of the teachers I know. Keep doing what you’re doing. You’ve. Inspired me to get an e-drum kit for myself on my birthday in January and get serious about drumming. I feel like I can analogize what you say about playing the drums to what I do for a living: trying to get teenagers give a f-- about reading literature. Thank you for what you do. Chris
Wow that solo at the end was downright phenomenal. Perfection at it's finest. Excellent arrangement, dynamics, execution and overall performance. Beyond impressive! A real polished Masterpiece!
I started playing drums in the 60's and I knew every one of the fills you showed. I have played them so many times that they are just a part of my unconscious drumming library. All of them are very useful fills and beginning and ending and turnaround fills for many songs. The six stroke roll fills are very useful and have been played thousands of times. This is a great lesson to give any drummer who needs to start a library of licks. Thank you for showing it...I was pleasantly surprised to see you showing licks that I have been playing all my life, and I am 68 years old!
Thank you very much for an excellent lesson. Drumeo, I wonder if you guys realise how much you are doing for people who don't have money or opportunity for personal drum instructors. Thank you very, very much.
+Drumeo As in Adam is coming to Drumeo? If that's true I fucking love you dude, seriously. This channel is such an amazing resource for inspiration and knowledge. Thanks for getting David on as well, cant wait for what's to come!
Stephen, your 10 drum fills has been really, really helpful for me to practice. I watch this video over and over again trying to master all your techniques. I played for 5 years in school and had a cheap trap set, as was called in those days. Your style and timing, on the drums is so incredible and it really sounds great. I hope I can master your fills and sound half as good as you do.
I've been watching Stephen for years now, and I highly recommend him for all drummers at any experience level. I've been drumming for two decades, and I still learn so many new things from his lessons. He's super humble and funny to boot.
Been a follower of @Stephen Taylor's RUclips channel for a few years now. This is one of the most practical and easy to apply lessons I've ever seen on the Drumeo RUclips channel. Keep up the great work guys.
Wow! Thank you. Such an incredible training video. I’m a 50 year old disabled vet and I set up my electronic drum set for the first time in 3 years this week. I can’t afford lessons. You truly will make it easier to get back into grooving.
I just went on RUclips to look up some random stuff, i subscribe to Drumeo, and this video popped up. I love it! The teacher's great, funny, knows what he's doing, everything's really useful and i enjoyed watching all of this. Some things you can't un-see... I find it's harder being a musician to un-hear things. So many songs that I don't like will flood my head for years... I mean YEARS. But it took way less time to forget the time I didn't knock on my parents bedroom door.
Hey, I am a new drummer. This might seem like a dumb question. What do you do to get rid of the buzz caused by the snare wires when you hit other drums? Mostly when I hit my air toms the snare wires go crazy. I realize this buzzing is characteristic of an accoustic drum set but I would like to reduce it. I have done my best to tune all the drums and when I turn the snare wires off, everything but the snare itself sounds beautifully clean. But of course I need that snare buzz when I hit the snare. Is there a way to achieve that clean recording sound without compromising the snare's sound?
No dumb questions. That's called sympathetic buzz. It's what your snare is made to do...buzz when a certain vibrational frequency is hit. That being said, it is no respecter of where that frequency is coming from (tom, your voice, etc). Your drums are tuned within the same range. Try cranking the bottom head of your snare up a bit. An old studio trick to do it on the fly is to turn the lugs (4 of them) to the left and right of the snare wire on the bottom head (both sides...hence the number 4) a quarter turn down or up. Keep doing that until the buzz is reduced. If you have more time though, deal with the entire drum for a long term fix. You can also address the tom that is in the range of the snare by retuning it. All lugs, quarter turn up or down until it's lessened. And lastly, adjust the tension on the snare wires themselves. All of this combined should help you minimize the buzz. Hope that helps!
Get electronic drums. Baring that do what Stephen said. I had a nasty ring on one of my snares, a Gretsch USA Custom from the 80s, and solved it by tightening the bottom snare head.
Buy Evans drum mute rings. They will make you snare “pop” without the ringing/rattling and will do the same for your toms. They are relatively cheap too!
Top to bottom, that's one of the best sounding drumkits I've ever heard. Stephen Taylor=top notch drummer, great teacher, and seems like a really solid dude.
I really like this drummer. Here's a new challenge: When can you build tension by NOT playing a fill? The best records have moments where there are no cymbals on one, and no fills leading to one. Not to say that the songs don't have any fills, but purposely using those moments with nothing to break clichés and leave room for the lyrics and other instruments to breathe.
Ugh... ok now I'm spamming but I'm just... ugh I really like the way he uses wrist technique to produce the tone he does on the kit. Accents and dynamics sit right where they need to be. The sound just resonates with me.
Thank you, Mr. Taylor! Love your style Sir! This was a fantastic lesson. Really enjoyed it. I'm a church drummer and got turned on to your stuff when I saw your lesson on, you guessed it, drumming in church. Your lessons are practical, relevant, and also humorous. It's so nice to see a working drummer that values a "less is more" approach. Not that you can't drop bombs when you need too! I appreciate your humility, but also your obvious passion for playing. Be blessed, brother!
Stephen, I have watched your sessions for a while now, and subscribed to your channel. Thanks for this - it's the kind of stuff that really matters to drummers who play live or for sessions, and often ignored.
This lesson was a lot of fun! I really liked Stephen's teaching style. He made each fill concise and easy to understand. I also liked the way Stephen segued from one fill to next by starting with one concept and then building on it. Kudos and thanks for putting together this awesome lesson!!!
Been wanting to drum for what must seem like 20 years if not more. FINALLY bought a drum kit recently and excited to really start playing. Man it's tough initially, but this is helpful. I'll be watching this over and over trying to duplicate what I see here. Hoping to be proficient one day. Thanks Stephen.
Stephen I watched your video on how to be a better church drummer when you gave 3 tips I play in a cowboy church in Texas it really inspires me and now I watch my fills and play a lot more for the song
Great lesson! The biggest benefit of this kind of stuff is that we can immediately use them at actual playing situation. And he is a really great teacher!
Fun, entertaing, and informative lesson. Love the pneumonic devices and historical context, really makes the whole approach more intrinsic. Drummers of all skill levels will benefit from this. I've been playing for 20 years and as a teacher, I absolutely loved it. Im stealing some of your tips!
I told my teacher I have to get good enough to be a guest artist because now that I got my drum set up in its place in my living room, it is never going out. Guess I will have those crazy drum sets. Bettina
@@StephenTaylorDrums I am a guitarist/singer/songwriter and finally got a drum set. I've been watching you all over the internet and your mnemonic devices are really helping getting drum fills down. Thanks for taking the time to do your RUclips videos! I know having a family can make a musicians life tough at times! :-)
good guy Steven Taylor, man. replying to all these comments XD you're an awesome player and teacher and seeing your daily videos on instagram is always inspiring me to change up my playing and think outside of the box. Thank you for the work you put in, it really is appreciated
Without doubt THE MOST useful video I have watched on drumming, and I've watched a few ;-) for a fledgling drummer. Recognisable fills explained perfectly and with good humour throughout. Thanks!
As always, you rule. I mean Stephen and everyone in Drumeo. I took notes and everything haha, this may seem simple but it's really pure gold for us who want to start playing for a living. Thank you as always!
This guy is such a cool dad type of guy. It was so much fun listening to him even if I knew most of these already. In fact I learned a little about notation because I don't know how to read notes.
Stephen is such a good laugh and superb player. One of the greatest videos on drumeo . Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the knowledge you share Stephen and thanks Drumeo for the radical platform and work.
Such an awesome drummer - so musical! And an amazing lesson, Stephen Taylor! Brand new (older) drummer here and totally amazed how well you make me understand the kit! Not to even mention how hilarious you are :-) Adding in the uncles and diddle in the middle "(BOOM!)" haha just kills me! And... "music is nothing but tension and release" Wow, mind blown! Thank you so much man!
I am use to making order out of chaos when it comes to fighting multiple attackers. Drumming makes order out of chaos but to me it looks like magic. Fascinating.
Stephen is such a cool guy. I'm a beginner and I saw his video on the Pat Boone Debbie Boone about 1 week into learning. I play it all the damn time haha. I'll have to learn all of these. Thanks guys
Wow! Watching this at first, made me feel like It was going a little too far back to basics but damn, you're not wrong when you say that these fills can save you. Today I was caught in a public music room and this pianist came in and wanted to jam. Being open to try anything, I said sure! So this guy starting play in some kind of ABAB Chris progression with an improved, right hand solo kind of feel. It was really hard to find a beat for it at first but eventually I just started messin around and experimenting behind the guy and every time I felt like he was getting too weird on the keys, I would pop one of those suckers out (the fills I mean) and man! It! Helped! Thanks for the lesson! +Drumeo
Thanks you guys for this video and special thanks to Stephen. This is my second time watching this video and I plan on watching it at least two more times. Love all these fills they are so practical and extremely savy. Keep up the good work it has helped me get to the next level and it would not have happened without this video. Look forward to more of these Drumeo vids with The coolest drum doctor, "Stephen too cool for school Taylor!"

Great lesson and teaching! As I a am non-drummer player, it was very useful to understand how these overall drum fills are actually played.
The Top Hat is a Zildjian EFX 16", but what cymbal does he use as bottom cymbal on that hihat?
K light top hat on the bottom. It's thinner than the bottom hat on the K light set so it gives a crunchier sound when mixed with that EFX.

The very best thing on fills, and on the language of drumming I've seen yet on the Tubes of You.
Thanks so much...glad it helped!
26:38 Awkward as soon as he says it and then he clarifies it's his own eight-years old.
Great video!
Stephen, I have watched your sessions for a while now, and subscribed to your channel. Thanks for this - it's the kind of stuff that really matters to drummers who play live or for sessions, and often ignored.
Glad to hear it Andy!
Ermagerd, her merny nerts?!
LOL
This lesson was a lot of fun! I really liked Stephen's teaching style. He made each fill concise and easy to understand. I also liked the way Stephen segued from one fill to next by starting with one concept and then building on it. Kudos and thanks for putting together this awesome lesson!!!
Thanks Daniel...so glad it helped!
man youre a great teacher
Errold Tumaque thanks so much my friend
Been wanting to drum for what must seem like 20 years if not more. FINALLY bought a drum kit recently and excited to really start playing. Man it's tough initially, but this is helpful. I'll be watching this over and over trying to duplicate what I see here. Hoping to be proficient one day. Thanks Stephen.
You bet Nathan!
Probably one of the best Drumeo tutorials I've ever watched. Great job, Stephen.
Thanks so much! Really glad it helped
One of the most useful videos I've ever seen, thank you, those fills helped me a lot
AIDEN Hugo D'Cotta you bet! So glad it helped my friend
Stephen I watched your video on how to be a better church drummer when you gave 3 tips I play in a cowboy church in Texas it really inspires me and now I watch my fills and play a lot more for the song
Makes my week to know that Cody!
Great lesson! The biggest benefit of this kind of stuff is that we can immediately use them at actual playing situation. And he is a really great teacher!
Love his channel and lessons, great to see you here on youtube, with drumeo:
Thanks Diogoe!
stephen ur an absolute monster on the drums i love ur playing!!!! greetings from switzerland!!!
Steal away Drew lol. All of the great artists steal...
Stephen is an outstanding drummer. This makes me want to watch the series.
Thanks so much for the kind words
the final solo is absolutely awesome!!!!
Thanks Otto!
11:20 in & love this already. Great Stephen! No one talks about smart song flow, queuing band members to keep the tunes flowing smoothly.
So glad to see Stephen on here!! Amazing video!
Great lesson. Know basic grooves, working on the fills, one or two at a time!! Thank you. Bettina, New Britain, CT.
Bettina Beauchemin you bet Bettina!
I told my teacher I have to get good enough to be a guest artist because now that I got my drum set up in its place in my living room, it is never going out. Guess I will have those crazy drum sets. Bettina
I did not expect that type of drum solo. Very cool!!
Hank Cramer thanks so much Hank
@@StephenTaylorDrums I am a guitarist/singer/songwriter and finally got a drum set. I've been watching you all over the internet and your mnemonic devices are really helping getting drum fills down. Thanks for taking the time to do your RUclips videos! I know having a family can make a musicians life tough at times! :-)
Wow! That was a very musical solo. Quite a breath of fresh air.
Thanks George!
good guy Steven Taylor, man. replying to all these comments XD you're an awesome player and teacher and seeing your daily videos on instagram is always inspiring me to change up my playing and think outside of the box. Thank you for the work you put in, it really is appreciated
Very humbling Matt...thanks!
Without doubt THE MOST useful video I have watched on drumming, and I've watched a few ;-) for a fledgling drummer. Recognisable fills explained perfectly and with good humour throughout. Thanks!
So glad it helped Steve!
This is a great great lesson for all drummers, and it's explained in a way that everyone can "get it"... bravo.
Thanks! So glad it was clear for you
Blimey - what a lovely start to the the solo - was drawn in.
oov55 Thanks so much
As always, you rule. I mean Stephen and everyone in Drumeo. I took notes and everything haha, this may seem simple but it's really pure gold for us who want to start playing for a living. Thank you as always!
You bet Pedro...so glad it helped!
This guy is such a cool dad type of guy. It was so much fun listening to him even if I knew most of these already. In fact I learned a little about notation because I don't know how to read notes.
whanowa I’ll take the dad compliment lol...thanks so much my friend
Holy shit you replied?! It was definitely meant as a compliment, you have that warmth and genuine goodness about you when you teach these things. :-)
Stephen is such a good laugh and superb player. One of the greatest videos on drumeo . Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the knowledge you share Stephen and thanks Drumeo for the radical platform and work.
Thanks so much Dale. The kind words mean the world
Such an awesome drummer - so musical!
You bet Cliff! And welcome to the drum fam my friend!
Thanks guys
very good lesson. Good job guys, thanks for this pure and beautiful knowledge
Oh my god Stephen! that solo blew me away!
Good lesson and man.. your playing!

Wow! Was not expecting this.
Great to see you here mayn.
Thanks Gordon! Great to be seen my friend
Great to see & hear Stephen here in detail. Great stuff as usual!
Two of my favorite channels TOGETHER?! How am I just seeing this now?!
+Drumeo
Glad it helped Travis!
Thank you!
Absolutely love Stephen Taylor.
Thanks so much for the support over the years Kyle!
