As Ian turned the pages, I could almost smell the "new" smell of books with lots of pictures. Thank you for making my day start like this. Greetings from Argentine Patagonia.
Argentina - congrats on the Cup victory! I wanted Argentina to win! And I smelled that "new book smell" too - just as good or maybe better than a new car smell!
Love that Ian becomes audibly more excited when talking about the actually cool pistols and then he gets significantly less interested when he's talking about boring tilting barrel pistols.
Vickers Guides make quite the statement. They are just beautiful books. And Larryu has had great support from the subject experts and sometimes the manufacturers. Love them.
As one of the 1st Federal Flight Deck Officers I was issued a USP Compact in 40 S&W. I loved the gun and learned to shoot it very well. Bought one for myself and it still is my most carried firearm. I' ve had 0 problems with it and it is snap to clean.
I managed to pick up the AR-15 Vol1 collectors edition when it was released and I've got the collectors edition of Vol2 on pre-order. Vol1 is well done and am looking forward to the next one, and also want to pick up the other books now.
OMG!!!! How do you keep doing this to me?! I need to start an OnlyFans to earn money to keep up with these book purchases. These are the type of books I wish I owned when I was a kid going through every gun book in our public library.
Larry Vickers has made considerable contributions to the firearms industry and I admire that. Great slings. I’m not a fan of his involvement with Heckler & Koch however. I don’t know everything about it, but as a fan of HK, I personally would have told them “Not that guy, find someone else.” - Just my opinion. There, I said it. I feel better now.
Not sure how else to ask this. On the channel Lindybeige there is an interview with a British man who has returned from the Ukraine war. I only mention this because Ian mentioned a book idea about it that blew up. If your interested its worth your time.
Hard to beat the P2000s; one of the few manufacturers that actually sold dual caliber kits, 40 S&W/357Sig. You could even get them with 9mm conversion barrels or the 9mm barrels may very well fit in the 40/357 though I can’t recall exactly. It’s been a long time since I got my 9mm barrel and recoil spring. I know neither caliber is that popular today but it’s hard to beat both in their respective strengths with say 9mm; 40 S&W is excellent at barrier penetration and maintaining lethality post barrier while the 356 Sig just has top notch terminal performance with a flat shooting projectile which at lighter weights can easily penetrate NIJ Level 3A soft body armor. 357 Sig can actually get to SBR velocities and similar weights to AR platforms with 2,500 FPS with 60 Grain projectiles and with even lighter offerings an on par 3k FPS for 55 grain isn’t probably that out of the question.
I used the H. K. P2000 for almost 10 years at my law enforcement job. It ran fine but my agency got the 7 pound trigger squeeze for every pull. That wasn’t cool.
Oh boy, looks like required reading. I'm an unabashed H&K freak, having owned a USP in .40 for more than 20 years. It is the only SA pistol I own that has never ever bobbled a round on loading, failed to fire, or failed to extract/eject. And this is with factory ammo, cheap reloads, and my own hand loads. It happily eats whatever it's fed. The Glock comes close, but I've had a few issues with it.
Interesting that we have a German company making new and innovative stuff and then after all of that "cool stuff " they start to make Browning style pistols. I think it just speaks again to his genius.
Did you recognize, that there was a book named "HK Heckler & Koch" by Manfred Kersten and Walter Schmid in 1999? It tells very much about the known HK guns, the history of HK, but also about the history about the G11 and other rare HK guns link selfloading shotguns with brass cased ammo. There are pictures from the prototypes and also a picture and a descripion of a HK33 in 4,73 × 33 mm. The book is only available in german language, but I'll do my very best, if you have questions :)
That is a gorgeous book! Come to think of it, for such a major arms manufacture, it is odd that HK really doesn't get proper technical coverage. Unfortunately, I've already bought the Clockwork Basilisk and the Tobacco of the Emperor. So I'll not be getting this fabulous gem this Christmas 😭😭
The great question is: How does the book describe the HK P7's system? Is the slide kept shut until the bullet left the barrel or does the slide starts to open emidialty after firing but slowly.
@@teufelshundtactical Im sorry to have offended you sir, hopefully I am wrong about this edition of the Vickers Guides. I have spent a lot of money on four of these guides and each one although each one is beautiful, the manuscript is just bad. I hope you have written the first good Vickers Guide. Sadly I wont be betting another $100 to find out.
It's not just the P30. They haven't really iterated on any of their hammer fired lines in over a decade now. It seems like it would be a no brainer for them to add slide-cuts and improve their triggers to compete with things like the Beretta 92X/M9A4, Arex Zero 2 and newer P226 models.
@@Horgler They clearly don't see a point, considering everyone and their mothers has hots for striker fired guns. They could at least modify the P30 so it has more "meat" where you would make an optic cut, so people can do it themselves.

It has been à gréât success. Thé authorities have collected à great number and very old Guns à newspaper has reported like à tankgewehr m1918. Good bye Ian
These books are beautiful but some of the commentary is pretty biased, laced with opinions, very America-centric. Especially the WWII volumes and the two Kalashnikov volumes. Its like reading RUclips comments....
A series of books written by an American author and published in America is America-centric? Shocking. I could say the same thing about books written and published in the UK.
This book alone covers more details regarding HK's firearm lineup more than all of the wiki pages combined
I'd hope so, you ARE in fact paying for it with the book

Wow, the P9S target model with 'wooden' [?] grips is a thing of great beauty..!
Doubtlessly walnut grips made by the well respected Nill company.

I want my wife to get me this for Christmas!!
I still maintain that the P2000 with the light LEM trigger is one of the best conceal carry guns on the market, even in 2022.
Great video and content. Very informative!
Interesting. The first handgun I purchased was an H&K P9s in .45 acp. Back in 1980.
Not Ian sneaking a Christmas gift guide onto his channel ;)
Wish I would have known about these earlier, I missed the sig book. Picked up the hk volume one though, thanks Ian.
Picked up a HK P2000 best EDC gun I've ever owned
Only one issue. Why these books are so expensive. Around $90 is around 400 PLN, which is a lot for a typical guy in Poland :-(
It's a big hardcover book in full colour. A price of $98 isn't unreasonable. I understand that international shipping isn't cheap.
@@redcat9436 With average salary being about $1000 (Poland), it's a lot.
I needs me everything hk and or usp so i need this 🤯 i saw no usp match when you flipped thru it, i hope i missed it and its in there. 😢
There any ebook versions of these? Digital format imo is the best for any actual guide or reference book

Will there be a volume 5 on nothing but the G11?
The great question is: How does the book describe the HK P7's system? Is the slide kept shut until the bullet left the barrel or does the slide starts to open emidialty after firing but slowly.
I can almost guarantee it doesnt even mention it. These books are not technical in any way. Picture book only.
