That's one of the nicer original LS6 you've found. I'm a 70 Chevelle lover like you, I've learned a lot from you. I get the most joy of seeing a car saved like this, that car is deserving of a concourse correct restoration. 👍
That rear axle turns 49 years old today lol, very neat car, beautiful original example, hopefully he gets it back on the road before it's been 10 years off
I agree ricardo340. In my eyes, that car is more valuable unrestored. More desirable anyways. At least in the Mopar world it would be. I'd fix a few of those body issues and strategically blend into paint - doesn't need to be perfect. Return EVERYTHING back to OEM. I'd also limit the buffing compounds on the sides, depending on amount of dings and dents. Hood, roof and c-pillars no problem. This type of car excites me sooo much.
Matthew McConaughey Thank you for this opportunity to see this wonderful Chevelle LS6 car in its original condition you just don’t find them Like that any more wow this would be a dream nothing like a sweet CHEVELLE
Hey I’m a huge fan of all of your cars that you find and the sheer knowledge that you have for these cars my father had a 1970 LS6 Chevelle that was tuxedo black on black with white stripes and I believe his had the white hounds tooth seats and black vinyl top he stored it at my aunts house in the garage and if I remember correctly he worked in the New York plant and I wish I could have you check it out but it had a horrible demise but that’s a different Story but I just simply can’t say enough about your videos and how I’m absolutely blown away at how you are still finding these cars and I simply can’t get enough of the finds you go out and document these finds you are a true seeker of legends of real Americana of a time that has gone by I can’t thank you enough and when I watch these videos it always brightens my day and makes me feel like you were put on this earth to really bring back memories that really touch all of us who really love these cars and try to give these cars a second chance to bring these cars back to there former glory thanks again and again and agin for all of your great hard work you are part of a dying breed of real car enthusiast god speed and god bless
Hi Patrick! I really dig the videos you do on all the Chevelles. Very informative. Keep up the good work!! I owned a '68 Malibu with a 327/300hp powerglide that came from CA for many years. I wanted to mention about the Lock cylinder that was in the front of the fender of a couple of the Chevelles in your videos. I believe it may not be just a "hood lock" but also an alarm. My cousin had one just like it on his Buick back in the '70s. I was just a kid then, but I remember him using a key to set it when we would go to the mall.
Thanks Patrick for another great video. I've watched every one of your Chevelle videos and a few others as well. I wish I could find a Chevelle like some of those you have. I had a 1970 Chevelle in High school in 11th grade. I quit that year and my mom begged me to go back the next year. I had to sell my most prized possession the Chevelle to a friend of mine in order to buy my school clothes n supplies. It was sold to my friend with the agreement he would hold it until I could get the money to buy it back. But a week later he totalled it into a bridge. He was ok just a few scratches but unfortunately the car wasn't salvageable. I hopefully one day will find another I can afford. I love watching the videos reminds me that I used to own one of the greatest cars ever built. But also sad sometimes that I lost it. Anyway thanks again for the great videos.
thanks for video. a friend and I completely swapped transmissions in 1976, his car was a 1971 SS454 400 turbo with console, mine was a 1970 SS396 4-speed with console, it was an ordeal to say the least all the way down to swapping the yolk on the pinion but when that 400 was forced to come out of low gear you be holding on!
Love the color combo. I'm sure that car was hard to put on the trailer in its day. That particular combo with 4.10 gears was and still in a mean street car. With Mickey Thompson's on the back headers and a hot ignition. Great original muscle car. Excellent Video as always Patrick
Carefully wash this car. Rip out interior. Put in new interior. Restore chassis with needed parts. Carefully buff out paint. New brakes and tires. Drive it.
These are must watch videos if your a car enthusiasts especially a chevelle lover another great car.Bolt a set of headers on these cars on 2nd day and they would be dominate at the drag strip remember watching them at the track back in 1970 as a kid with my two older brothers.
Great SS. Not bragging but I have owned every year model Chevelle from 1966 to 1972. And one 78 Malibu. I have owned two LS- 6 cars and the 70 SS is in my opinion the most beautiful driving and well built of all the Chevelles. To me it was the king of Muscle for GM. Now I own a 93 Silverado stepwise pickup. Nice but not the Chevelle. Cruising and looking out over that beautiful Cowl hood is a feeling that can't be matched. My heart aches to see these once kings of the street sit sad and neglected. I would proudly drive one today and feel at home and young again ... I admire your passion Patrick we have that in common. 👍
My dad bought one of these new when I was five years old. Yellow with black vinyl and stripes , LS6 4 speed . It looked like a rocket ship sitting in the driveway. It was the most reliable car we ever had ! My dad lost a race against his boss in a big ugly black Plymouth with a Hemi . My dad traded it in for a truck right after that . He always said he wishes he would of kept it .
Before my time but I've seen them on a few classics I worked on before It was fascinating to me seeing that key hole on the side of the fender & big bull horn under the hood lol.
How do you come across these barn finds? I would like to find one to where I can purchase it and restore it. It’s a SIN to let those classic beauties get to that point of neglect 🥺
Yeah that one would do I know it's not the tuxedo black damn I never seen one that color factory learn something new everyday with this man and it came like at 4:10 4 speed I'm in love I still want that tuxedo black though
I didn’t investigate the rear window defroster option and it slipped by the switch wasn’t in the dash that activates the motor. This option appears to have been added later and the car wasn’t assembled new with this option.
Interesting that you mentioned the car was bought in Chicago...I had a neighbor that had one the same color but at the time, I didn't know a "SS454" from a "SS396" so I don't know which one he had. I've never seen another 70' in Chicago in maroon (Black cherry) with the white stripes. If I'm not mistaken, he bought his in 1969 ! ....At the time, I lived in the Beverly neighborhood and his house was right behind a General Tire dealership...Do you know if this is the same guy ?
@@grunenwald2005 There is more ls6 and ls5 then ever made because all guys want them instead of just making a car one of kind. Brings back A lot of good memories. Isn't their A build sheet on the top of the gas tank? That's where Mine was. It Wasn't a LS6 Or anything of Course.
Patrick, An old friend has an identical car (L-34 SS396,4spd.) That he hasn't driven in almost 35 years. I hadn't seen him in many years.9yrs ago,we crossed paths by chance.I went to look at a car he had for sale.I asked him if he still had Chevelle. His reply..."Yea,it's behind you in the garage. You are awesome in your descriptions. I have learned things from you that I never known about 70SS numbers, I've had a 68 SS396 (Real) & 69 SS427 (Fake) and a LS5 70 SS El Camino (real) I probably still have them if I knew you then because I had a couple things in question to be sure it was the real deal. So for now its me and my Blown 57 Chevy that I know is real because I've own it for 44 years.
judging off the condition of carpet and seats id say that is more likely 155 ,000 miles if not 255.000 miles on it and that car has been spot painted several times but nice car to restore for sure
It would get a Muncie 4 speed if I ever got it. LS-6 is way more fun with a manual transmission. The only one I ever rode in was an automatic car. I bought a 67 427 390hp engine from the guy and he took my buddy and I for a ride in his 70 SS. It was nasty even with the TH-400. He told us the only car that beat him was a 64 SS with a 425hp 409 and 4 speed.
Great video Patrick! I don't know why people just let rodents, cats whatever live in these cars. I doesn't take very much work to just do a minimal preservation on the car as the years roll by. I know of 2 69 Camaros sitting in a garage much like you see this car. They are every bit as grimy as this car with cats living in them the last 41+ years. I have tried to buy them many times over the years but the guy will not sell for any reason. He is now in his late sixties & has never done a thing to them but still wont' sell. I will bother him again this spring hopefully I will get a better answer this time.
PGN, now that's a Chevelle, beautiful, was that a factory color?....I remember my parents bought a new Chevelle back in 70 iit was a maroon burgundy color
i have gotten a few 454 strokers out of motor homes and u can get ls motors too out of them one of the 454 has 6000 miles on it the other has 38000 on it both run like new plus they come with the heavy 400 turbo in the book in the rig said they had 450 hp at 485 torque in motor homes come with crate motors so it was up to the buy'er on the motor they wanted plus i check ranchers on new buys that i haul off scrap and i get a lot of cars for free. i just got 38 foot motor home running and driving good inside and out and from the same place i got a 79 chevy short wide box cheyenne in perfect condition been parked in the shop with about a inch of dust new battery and some high octain fuel and drove it home handled like new paint is good from factory and 2 camero's 79/80 t tops but need a lot of work
Nice find Patrick. It seems to me that, even though so much has changed on this car,it's more valuable in cleaned up,un-restored condition. What do you think?
Ok this is what confuses me..he claims it is a # matching car..then goes on to say the 4sp was swapped out to an auto. It is now NO LONGER a # matching vehicle! And WHO in their right mind would go from stick to auto on such an iconic '70 muscle car???

Hey Adrian!? Cool dude that is my name too?! I have a 71 Nova mostly original. 65,000 original miles dude!! Red with black bucket seat interior. Anyway, the answer to your question is it most likely be under the carpet on Willow Run Novas.

there are hundreds of Chevelle guys out there who find them and contact him. Notice his email posted?
No kidding i had no idea they even made so many big block 70 chevelles. I always liked rear bumper and taillights on the 71 better

roger buck HE SHOULD NOT HAVE LOST THAT RACE, THE LS6 IS FASTER STOCK FOR STOCK AGAINST THE 426 HEMI.
All the important stuff is good. Easy restoration. And worth it. These cars are only going up in value with age.
The key in the fender looks like a shunt lock for the aftermarket alarm. Put one on my truck in the early 80s. (I’d never do that today)

@Grumpy468 transmissions weren't VIN stamped so there are no "numbers" to match. Just like the rear diff.. only date codes. No partial VIN
Thay probably dont know to shift so thay put a automatic in but hey u can stell put the stick back in it if thay have that trans.or can find one with those numbers ..
The axel numbers looked to me to be 0323 not the stated 0223. How would that change the build date as claimed? Would it still be an April build?
It was stated as 0322 but it’s clearly 0323 like you said. Definitely perfect for a second week of April built car.
That’s a nice one! What happens next? Does the owner restore it or sell it?
I would clean this car up and fix the little things that need to be repaired and drive it as is
Hey where would I find the build sheet for a 1969 nova built in willow run Michigan
Hey Adrian!? Cool dude that is my name too?! I have a 71 Nova mostly original. 65,000 original miles dude!! Red with black bucket seat interior. Anyway, the answer to your question is it most likely be under the carpet on Willow Run Novas.
Have you ever come across a 427 copo chevelle and can you make a walk around vid of your chevelle?
