My first attempt at a summary. A philosopher, Derek Parfit (not sure of spelling), in the view of the respondent to the question, the most brilliant man of the 20th century, spent his whole life working out what a universal ethic is, and ended up publishing an unreadable 2500 pages book. A peak for mountain climbers all climbing up the same mountain from different cliff faces. All ultimately reach the same peak. As long as you have reasonable people reasoning out a problem you should get to a reasonable, practical and ethical conclusion in situations they are involved in. Feel free to suggest amendments.

Name-dropping Parfit. Hey, hey.
