Thank you for posting. When I go to the Art Gallery, I do get very close to the art work to see the brush strokes, and then from far off. So this is so great for me to see more art in this form.
“Surely his nights were prettier than our days.” Hello? The guy had severe mental breakdowns, lived in poverty, was admitted in a mental asylum and in the end killed himself. Surely his nights were NOT prettier than our days. This is so pretentious and rude that it hurts. Shame on you!
It’s boring to spend half the video on his biography. We can google that information ourself and many likely already have. Why do you like it? What does it make you feel? Why do you think it matters all this time later? And pain definitely influences art. Someone with interest in Van Gogh should appreciate that at least.
She is such an annoying narrator. Holy moly. How can you ruin someone’s experience with such a beautiful masterpiece? I highly recommend just watching the video on mute
Its weird to hear her say that she doesnt buy the idea of pain making great art. Did i miss something? Or does she need more heartbreak in her young life of 20 something years. 👴
I really liked that she said that. Too many young artists buy the narrative that they must mentally suffer to produce good art, including myself at one point..
Blah Snarto . The pronunciation of van Gogh is problematic. In the US it is generally pronounced as she does. The European way of saying the name is likely to be more accurate. Either way she says it, she will be open to criticism: Either it isn’t how the artist pronounced it or if it is like the artist pronounced it,then the speaker is being pretentious.
IMHO, this is sadly amateurish and foolish. You should see the painting or at least a representation of it on your own, and consider it before listening to commentary on it -- even good commentary, let alone awful commentary. Would you go to a gourmet restaurant and have someone else eat the food you've ordered and then tell you about it? Or how about creating an ASMR video of the food, and then stare at it? : This is an excellent example of how our culture is technologically sophisticated and emotionally illiterate.
So beautiful! I love this format. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Maggie Rogers.
Love to see you checking in here! Thank you for all you've done! And yeah, love your take on this iconic work, Maggie Rogers.

THIS PAINTING OF VAN GOGH WILL REMAIN AS ONE OF THE FAVE ARTS OF THE YOUTHS WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION.
Never thought of that in this way
He was a Genius. He could taste color. He drank his own paint mixer. He was a painter's painter.

Sounds like a machine learned voice.
Just an other painting, people buy for the name, not the paint.

This girl is so condescending. Then says "i don't care about his mind" and continues to talk about it the entire video
You heard something i didn't, to each their own.

arent you pronouncing Van Gogh wrong?
She's also mispronouncing 'etoile'

Al Wright The French word Etoile means star.
She is saying the French word for starry which is étoilé
Renzo but she is being pretentious. A lot.
this video was tortured art.

now thats depressing
A woman who can't pronounce the name of the artist, can't pronounce the name of the painting, has no credence what-so-ever.
