Mam! You are good! Thank you for sharing. I have watched a number of other grip turning videos, but none as informing as this one. I was especially impressed with your "down home, good ol' buddy" attitude. Learned a lot. Especially about the finish. First time I've heard anyone say that they put a finish of any type on their cork. You can bet I'll be using some on the next grip I turn. BTW, would you share where you get your cork?

I really appreciate that encouragement! I’m glad you enjoyed it and learned something as well. I used to have a reliable ebay source for nice cork but the seller isn’t there anymore. I haven’t been building lately so I can’t really help with that right now. Cork was becoming more and more difficult to find so I’m not sure anymore. Try some rod-building pages on facebook, there’s a ton of good resources there.

Love it. I need to get better at this so I don't have to buy the pre-made ones. Have you thought about Titebond III instead of two as its waterproof?

I’m interest in two things: what lathe are you using and where do you get the cork that you put on the ends? I like it!!

Central Machinery 10X18” wood lathe. My cork comes from several places. Mudhole, a couple ebay stores etc... The cork on the ends is from www.ebay.com/str/mogoscorkforcustomrods. All the cork I’ve gotten here is really nice.

Hello! Your video is awesome! I am in the process of building some fly rods as Father's Day Gifts for both my dad and grandpas. I am curious how you get the mandrel in a lathe or if I can use a drill as a lathe with the mandrel in it? I've never done anything with a lathe and am clueless on how to get this process started. Let me know if you have any thoughts! Thank you!

Thanks for watching! I have a dedicated drill chuck for my lathe. I see some people make a lathe with a drill motor but I prefer a lathe and a chuck.

Doing a finishing video? Left me hanging! What do you use to buff and seal?!

I personally use Watco Butcher Block oil. It’s safe and waterproof.

Beautiful grip. But how well does that Butcher Block oil hold up? Never heard of using that before.

So far it has done very well for me. I haven't had any complaints from clients and people like the feel of it.

I think he meant 1/4 inch steel mandrel.
