The Parthenon was in that shape because the Turks stored munitions in it, and they exploded. It was whole up to that point.

So many artefacts are locked up in vaults not on display only 1 % are on display in the BM and losing the marbles will destroy the museum you must be goking

NO THEY SHOULD STAY WHERE THEY ARE. Elgin suffered a lot to get them over, including years of imprisonment and a delayed shipment. He had permission to excavate. GREECE SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT ANOTHER COUNTRY VALUES THEIR ANCIENT ARTEFACTS and cannot prove illegality. What next? The Rosetta stone?

lord Elgin admitted it in a letter that the ottomans had no authority to sell the marbles from the walls of the parthenon so end of debate

It isn't the Greeks' responsibility to prove illegality. It is the responsibility of the British museum to prove legality. Which they can't. The Turks, who are known to religiously keep immaculate records, have no record of it.

@@AnnabelleJARankin He suffered a lot because he was a greedy man He wanted to make his own museum and charge a entrance fee .The reason he had financial problems is because he had a pricy divorce. We have had them long enough it's time to give them back to the Greek people .We all know that this saying of the slippery slope happening will not ,Come on Annabelle you know this is the right thing to do ,you can't take a people's pride and keep it in a large room which is like a prison .

The right thing is to leave them there. Elgin brought them over legally - they were happily shipped from Greece by Greeks.

Mr speaker ,that was the biggest loads of lies that l have ever heard .you have some points which are true but l think you should invest some more of your time to research ing the truth .Just to finish off why doesn't the British museum have the copy's and give the originals back to the Greeks were they were born .By the way the majority of the United Kingdom think that they should go back .So why not stop lying and speak the truth instead of bending it to your advantage.
