Absolutely blown away by the scale of this, the intricacies and the beautiful execution. Thank you so much for sharing your incredible skill and model with us.
One of the best mage tower builds I have seen so far. The idea that you can mess up the project pretty much at any stage and all goes to waste gave me chills every now and then. Great improvement over the water as well and not many people know this but learning Houdini is pretty hard task plus the renders takes a lot of time as well. So cheers on that achievement as well. I guess you will start mixing your builds with some Houdini effects in the future like the mage summon tornado or so. Anyway looking for it ^^
Thanks Lazar! Yeah, Houdini was a big challenge to learn alright. I've actually since not renewed my license as that has to be done yearly, and have switched over to Blender. It does a decent job with particls and has a fairly nice render engine. If I ever felt I needed some nice water effects again or some other really detailed effect like sand, snow, fire, lava etc, I'd definitely switch back to Houdini. 😎 A tornado would be sweet too and could probably be achieved nicely with Blender. Not as detailed as Houdini but still not too bad. :)
That is one heck of a build, well done. You are right about the water, it looks much better with the extra layer on top. Keep up the excellent work matey.
Amazing project. Looking at the completed assembly, I can hear and taste the salt water, and feel the coolness of the stones. And imagine the climb it takes to get to the top of that thing! Woof!

Just a thought :) Love the build and you're obviously very talented and skilled at your craft. Keep it up, I will be watching a lot more of your videos!
@GAgaV8 actually I have been. I travel a lot. And dont worry I'm not obnoxious about it unlike some others. I've traveled since I was a kid and my parents taught me proper ettiquet when visiting another place. But CLEARLY you dont understand what Americans are like nowadays. You hear about the rarer folks who just so happen to be the loudest. Try actually paying attention to the rest of us and not lumping us in with those crazies?
@GAgaV8 I didnt explain what I meant very well, and honestly what I said is kinda strange considering what i meant? But I'm well aware in different places its appropriate to do one thing or something else is considered impolite. Eye contact with people you pass, or smiling at someone you pass is one I can think of. I'm not talking about overly loud or peppyness that you see in youtube videos, which is what content creators do. Honestly I dont know how tired I was when I wrote that.
@GAgaV8 and I'm well aware people dont think like me. I'm all to aware of that because I'm not neurotypical and deal with people trying to assume that I can just function like they do. People have different cultures and their environment heavily shapes their personality.
@GAgaV8 honestly I think it was bad wording mostly on my part as well as a misinterpretation on my part. I take accountability for that XD. In terms of what I usually watch I usually cant watch a video if it's too mellow, often times itll just fade into background noise for me without realizing it. So I tend to like things with quick pacing so that I can actually focus on it, con of having an annoying brain.
This is more than "all right." It's absolutely fantastic! As for the stone lacking detail, nah, it's just weathered from the storms lashing it down through the ages. i have never played a tabletop version of DND but projects like this make me wish I had. In fact, I haven't played DND since it was first done back when computers ran only a shareware version where every character was simply an X on a black background and dungeon walls were merely brackets. Funny thing about it, though, if I was really immersed in the game, my imagination took over and everything became "real." Love the wizard keeping a watchful eye on your building progress.
I would love to see elaborate scenary like this on Critical Role. They should hook up with you in some way. Love the attention to detail. Infinite thumbs up from Denmark
amazing piece of art. when i was about 8 years old my dad made a pretty similar castle to the one here with working traps and all which he gifted to me on christmas.i always thought that it took quite some time but i just get to appreciate the ammount of work that he put into building it especially the paint and the surface of the walls now.

At about 26:00 you mention as the clay absorbs the paint, you may wind up "painting on top of paint" which is not good. (I believe the term is "hygroscopic". . . That is a property of certain materials which absorb moisture, particularly from the air - yes, I am nerd!) I wonder if you could spray paint a primer over the "mistakes", and then continue with a re-application of paint. Just thinking out loud. EXCELLENT video by the way. I did very much enjoy your video on creating a texture roller as well. It is SO FUN to watch this model being built. Thanks for doing it!
OOhh cool! Thanks for the info! I'm sure I could paint primer over again, but then it may create a layer over top and you lose that "hygroscopic" tendency of the material. :D if that makes sense. And thanks! Glad you enjoy watching the process and hope you stick around for more future builds :)

Wow, I just finished the video. It is awesome. You must have spent thousands on resin alone. It's beautiful though. Absolutely beautiful. You have some real talent there. Subbed.
Inspiring. The use of the air dry clay for the majority of the tower itself has opened a whole host of possibilities for those of us who do not have a foam cutter.
@@RealTerrainHobbies I'm using Polyform Model Air. It is great stuff. Easily gotten from Walmart for me and from what I can find, there is minimal shrinking. I am putting that to the test by using to cast a floor tile and a archway half from a Hirst Arts mold and comparing them to the plaster casts I have made before. Oh yeah, it dries rock hard.

Wow, this is a gorgeous piece. The water looks a lot better now and I think the second layer you added creates a beautiful effect that would not have been possible otherwise.
it's really beautiful, and impressive, the only thing that could be even better is to put a small light in the top of the tower to appreciate the work of the resin on the windows, finally it is my humble opinion: )
Yeah and you know I was going to put a battery powered tea light in there but completely forgot. A lot of people were sad they didn't see the entire tower altogether in one shot. So I was maybe going to put that in my next vid at the end, and with that I could light up the tower as well. :)
LOVE THAT WIZARD TOWER I WILL MAKE ONE SOON.... FOR A BOOK END OR BETWEEN HAND MADE BOOKS ON SHELF... WITH LIGHTS.. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN EVEN MORE WOW WITH LIGHTS... BUT AMAZING WORK.. LOVE THE 3D EFFECTS ON SCREEN AND THE MINI WIZARD KEEPS PUPPIN AND RUNNING AROUND... LOVE THAT, AND AWESOME WORK....!!! ALSO.... LOVE YOU USED WHAT YOU HAD ON HAND... AND THAT MAKES IT MORE UNIQUE....!
Never have understood why a wizard would want to have a tower. They are old, all those stairs would suck. I've climbed a lighthouse, which is similar in shape and size. It was a 177 steps to the top, had to stop and catch my breath halfway up. Great looking craft.
They can fly and teleport so np. The tower usually enhance their power because it is placed on place of power or energy and there they can store artifacts, books, ingredients etc.
@ Heraldic Heraldic That is awesome. There are some really old monks I've seen out in Greece who have more life and energy in them than most 30 yr olds today. Very cool to see.
Wow, love the wave effects and sea foam. And I seriously need one of those brick effect rollers. I might consider something like this, i have a dragon that would look great on there
Really amazing build. One thing that seemed a bit incongruous (just my own opinion of course :)) is the tree. On a wind- and wave-swept rocky place like that, a tree is likely to be bent and gnarled (like many bonsai trees), rather than a large, up-right, leafy tree...
Great observation and yeah you're right. Would have been a lot harder to get that look finding a small plant that formed in that sort of shape as well. In the end though, it's a fantasy setting so maybe the wizards magic gave the tree that added strength to withstand the winds :)
This is just amazing! I will be starting with dioramas soon but with cheap and homemade materials. I don't have budget for now plus it is limited to travel to malls or hobby shops due to quarantine. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work full with patience, creativity, and skills. Ohh, and I liked the wizard going on an adventure are the back. I caught them 4 times at 5:4514:2622:11 and 25:21, are there more that I didn't see?
In my opinion the tower is a bit too tall, I get that you were going for the absurdly big wizard tower, but it takes away some balance to the whole composition. Everything elese works very well and I expecially like the wet, smooth stones at the bottom.
Awesome work. I really love this gritty fantasy style! I think I got finally the impetus to make a "swamp forge" scene that's been haunting me for a while... as per requested; hot gluing is a good way to try out layouts before using some actually effective fastening methods.
Awesome, good luck with your project! And thanks for the feedback on the hot glue. So sort of a way to tack things in place as the main glue dries. I like that a lot...
It's just so beautiful! Your creativity and passion really shows in your videos. The way you put your love into these medieval fantasy buildings is just amazing! Keep up the wonderful work and content. Greetings from Belgium
I'm new to this world of building miniatures, watching some of your older videos. This has to be my absolute favourite video on RUclips. Thank you for explaining and doing such great details.
Professional cabinet/furniture maker here with a friendly #protip: that veneer is applied with a hot iron, essentially a clothes iron. Much safer than holding pieces over an open flame. If you’re doubling the thickness simply cut your parts and lay them back-to-back glue sides together and apply a hot iron to them taking care to keep it moving and not apply it too long or you’ll still scorch the wood. I’d heat one end while holding the other, then after the first end cools do the opposite end. Hope that helps.
Just found this now.....I think this an amazingly good model! The detail is beautiful and full of character. I love the design and the sea turned out freaking awesome! I am a professional fine art sculptor and I sculpted a Lord of the Rings figurine collection for the Tolkien Estate. I would be honoured for my Gandalf to live here.
What a beautiful thing you created here, I know it’s been a while since but I just had to say this is great work, and also helpful for my own little project I’m researching for. Looking forward to seeing what else you have built!
I always wanted to make a real wizard tower to live in.. but I learned that our totalitarian and rights infringing government already has a history of step in to prevent it. In fact, a man in Califnornia actually finished his Wizard Tower.. The state tried to make him tear it down, saying it was "unsafe".. He just walked away and let them try to tear it down.. They burnt out 2 caterpillar tractors while tearing it down.
Despite the fear and anxiety you likely had with this build, this was an extremely satisfying conclusion to one of the, if not THE, coolest miniature scene builds I've ever seen. I wish I had the time and materials to make something even half this epic.

Thanks. :) And yeah definitely agree on the water
it's really beautiful, and impressive, the only thing that could be even better is to put a small light in the top of the tower to appreciate the work of the resin on the windows, finally it is my humble opinion: )
Yeah and you know I was going to put a battery powered tea light in there but completely forgot. A lot of people were sad they didn't see the entire tower altogether in one shot. So I was maybe going to put that in my next vid at the end, and with that I could light up the tower as well. :)
what a pleasure to watch! You are a great and passionated artist! Beautiful work.
Stunning I can’t imagine making something that wow.
Wow, looks great! A brush and water blends your clay really well
Thank you for filling the void left by Mike over at Terranscapes! You are basically a Sith apprentice stepping in after your master.
Thanks man. Big shoes to fill. Really hope he’s able to rekindle that passion some day and come back. He was such a huge influence for me.
Amazing! I want to live there, the amount of detail has blown me away , totally freaking awesome 🖤 thanks for sharing!
Me: that looks so good! Amazing finished product.
Real Terrain Hobbies: Oh I'm not done. We've just got to step two.
Great looking craft.
they're not necessarily old all the time.
They can fly and teleport so np. The tower usually enhance their power because it is placed on place of power or energy and there they can store artifacts, books, ingredients etc.
At Torre dos Clérigos in Porto the old folk climb 225 steps without stopping. How bad is that scurvy mate?
Cardio.
@ Heraldic Heraldic That is awesome. There are some really old monks I've seen out in Greece who have more life and energy in them than most 30 yr olds today. Very cool to see.
One of the best model making videos on RUclips. So much effort and detail involved.
❤️
Wow, love the wave effects and sea foam. And I seriously need one of those brick effect rollers. I might consider something like this, i have a dragon that would look great on there
Yeah a dragon on the would be pretty cool! And the brick roller makes doing this a breeze, once you get the technique right.😜
Really amazing build.
I use it for oil painting the one I have is called a MACK Wipe Out Tool.
I caught them 4 times at 5:45 14:26 22:11 and 25:21, are there more that I didn't see?
Some would say the most legendary wizard of all is Merlin.
your passion to make all the details makes this piece amazing
I absolutely enjoyed every second of this video
Awesome project well done what's next. keep up the great work
the sneaky animation made me smile.. excellent build sir
This is amazing. I agree that wawe looks realistic. It really beautiful.
It's just so beautiful! Your creativity and passion really shows in your videos. The way you put your love into these medieval fantasy buildings is just amazing! Keep up the wonderful work and content. Greetings from Belgium
Thanks Ken! Really appreciate the kind words. Very encouraging and greetings! Awesome to see this reach so far across the pond :)
All I know is that the Crafsman calls those finger-tools, silicone brushes. Keep steady crafting ;)
Just Wow! You are a true artist. This is just magnificent, absolutely great job!
Ok, so is the periodic pixilation and image stutter in the beginning deliberate?
I'm new to this world of building miniatures, watching some of your older videos. This has to be my absolute favourite video on RUclips. Thank you for explaining and doing such great details.
the most legendary wizard of all time: "gandalf the great"
merlin: "am i a joke to you"
Professional cabinet/furniture maker here with a friendly #protip: that veneer is applied with a hot iron, essentially a clothes iron.
Oh, I'm early!
Indeed you are! Man, I just gotta say, you really made this video what it is. Absolutely no doubt about it. :) Thanks again for your amazing music.
Can you tell me the name of the endig title ?
This is gorgeous. I loved watching every moment of this video and learned quite a bit of new techniques and products to use. Thank you so much!
Got spooked by the wizard on the shelf lol
Just found this now.....I think this an amazingly good model! The detail is beautiful and full of character. I love the design and the sea turned out freaking awesome! I am a professional fine art sculptor and I sculpted a Lord of the Rings figurine collection for the Tolkien Estate. I would be honoured for my Gandalf to live here.
honestly, I quite liked the wonky terrace. wizard towers should all be teetering on the edge of falling over.
This is the most impressive build I've seen on RUclips! Amazing work Neil! This should be in a museum.
22:00...you can't hide from us, wizard!
What a beautiful thing you created here, I know it’s been a while since but I just had to say this is great work, and also helpful for my own little project I’m researching for. Looking forward to seeing what else you have built!
Hey you'be got 40k survivors.... lol... You should do some Warhammer 40k themed terrain in celebration!!!...lol
Thanks for sharing, cool looking tower! It's good to see failures included as a reminder that they are part of the process.
They burnt out 2 caterpillar tractors while tearing it down.
huh, no kidding hey? Thats crazy someone actually did go and make one!
Absolutely stunning. So glad I found this channel.
шикарная работа бро)
Despite the fear and anxiety you likely had with this build, this was an extremely satisfying conclusion to one of the, if not THE, coolest miniature scene builds I've ever seen. I wish I had the time and materials to make something even half this epic.
Thanks man, much appreciated. Glad you think so. :)
I am pretty sure they are called Color Shapers.
Amazing job. I love the animated characters in the background. :)
