It's not that we don't appreciate the offer, it's a great sign of gratitude and much appreciated. From my standpoint, in uniform when someone says they will buy my drink/snack/coffee etc. I always feel bad having to turn it down as I know they are taking their hard earned money to do something generous out of kindness. The state I work for caps the "gift" to be less than $1 in value to be looked at as OK. The times I have went to pay and the person working says "the person in front of you paid for your x,y,z, without me knowing, I always in turn pay for the person behind behind me in line so as never to be "that officer" that doesn't appreciate the people I have the opportunity to work for. Stay safe driving out there!
This was the same thing in 1986 when I was working at a gas station. They can’t accept gifts because it could later be considered a bribe. Smart officer. Cool OP.
@ thank you for watching, trucking is a passion and love it, 10 years in right now. Hopefully getting truck of our in next year or so, freightliner classic xl to be restored to new
In Ontario Canada our Tim Hortons coffee shops workers and customers pay for their orders. Its not a bribe, its to honor their heroics and show appreciation. Its not a gift, its a meal and hot coffees on cold days to stay awake for 12 plus hours and cold drinks in our heat waves. ♥️🇨🇦
It’s considered a gratuity. Could almost be considered a bribe. Even if you do not intend for it to influence future interactions, the perception would still be there that is what’s going on. Technically aren’t supposed to accept discounts offered by businesses for police, fire, or military members either.
Yea I seen that when I looked it up. That reaction tells us he upholds his policy and honors his oath to the constitution. Learned something out of this.
