I'd like to imagine that the 'lore' for this would have to be taking place before or _after_ the Prank War that takes place between Benson and Eugene, and that this would be considered "Eugene's Greatest Prank" to turn one of Benson's own workers and friends against him by any means necessary, even if it resulted in taking deals with Death or some other dark entity from Regular Show that'd result in Eugene and Mordecai losing their minds, and Benson would happen to come across the three, with Rigby being the newest victim of Eugene's "prank"
Personally I think it would've fit more if it was Rigby as the antagonist and one of those hotdog fellas as the mastermind. Meanwhile, Mordecai is out here having to deal with Rigby's bs again.
