      @@DRETV_707Great how to video! Yeah, I'm curious on your thoughts after some time has gone by----- especially that sunshade: how often you open and close the sun shade, how much resistance you feel when opening/closing it (as those ~240 fiber strands have to move with the sun shade where you routed and gathered up those individual fiber strands of it's surface...) and if you've found that any of those shade strands have started to work loose from where the come out of their "star" holes inside the cab 😊
      Also: I noticed you purchased the pushpins to make the star holes but seem to have ended up using a drill: did you ever have moments when drilling any particular hole that the upholstery on other side caught or gathered up (started twisting around drill bit)?
      Lol, I'm 70% through an install on a '01 new beetle with sunroof and like you------ I've learned planning it out first, attacking the work in sections, only doing so much on any given day is important to keep your sanity & methodically making progress!
      Great job and do let us know your thoughts on the install after these 9 months have gone by...... I didn't see a follow up video but will look again just in case I missed your post.
      Thanks for sharing your experience and tips 👏

      @DRETV_707  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@andrewpelletier1199 so I have not had any problems with the sunroof and I constantly have it open that’s why I used a hot glue gun to hold the strands down. Also that’s why I tinted the sunroof. And yes I switched to a drill because my hands were cramping up and it was taking to long to push through the suede I put on the headliner. Yes you have to be careful not to twist up the headliner material. What I ran into was the backing of the material would get stuck around the bit but all I had to do was keep cleaning the material off the bit that I was good. You definitely have to take breaks or you will want to rush than mess up but the end product will be well worth it and will save a lot of money in your pockets

    • @andrewpelletier1199
      @andrewpelletier1199 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@DRETV_707 Thank you. Yes, it's definitely not something to rush. On my beetle, I had to make the difficult choice of working from the light box which I hid within the rear side panel and routing each fiber group I created from the larger supply conduit. There were points as I stared at the sheer amount of octopus cabling that I was always going between pressing on trusting my process and....despair because every turn seemed like I had yet another mountain. That choice to route from the source and through the metal frame of vehicle meant I'm still going to be installing fibers with the headliner IN vehicle, dropped down about a foot from sunroof frame. I couldn't see a way to work back from the headliner and still fit the grouped fiber bundles through and into a place where you couldn't see the box or the tie in🤠👍 the new beetle only had about 1/2-3/4 inch vertical gap between headliner surface where fibers are glued down to the plane of the sunroof frame where I had to clear the sunshade path.
      There's no room for fibers on the sunshade I'm now accepting because the back portion of roof is so cramped. I think it could be pulled off, but after the experience of getting this far it's clear to me the more cramped those supply side fiber bundles have to be (feeding the sunshade) the more the back and forth movement of sunshade will likely find my sunshade slowly working the fiber ends loose over time. As the loosen because the bug has very little gap between sunshade and actual moving glass piece, this strands will likely catch that glass down road.
      Looking at your install and others, I'm envious of how much room is within the headliner to sunroof frame components! The beetle sunshades are notorious for binding up in their bracket sliders if their even slightly skewed and I've concluded I will not be installing lights in that shade.
      I'll be happy I pulled a led fiber install off in a beetle. I could still crash and burn though as I'm not sure if I'll be able to reach up and into the lowered headliner as I route and place individual fibers with headliner in vehicle.
      At this point it's a personal challenge and an upgrade.
      We'll see! 🙈

      No so two things one when you open your sunroof the glass comes down a lil bit and catches the back lip of the sunroof cover and that’s how the cover moves back automatically. Second when I pull my cover back with the sunroof closed it moves freely because if you go look at the part where I did the cover I pulled everything to one cover and routes the fiber optics to where it moves freely behind the lip of the sunroof

      @@rodieselpower😂 Always that one jerk who ends up revealing more about themselves than about whoever their comments were aimed at.
      Maybe don't drink and binge watch RUclips videos AND THEN comment in ways that seem meant to tear down the ones making the effort to share their lessons and experiences so others can build on what they've given us!?
      Since you were intoxicated you aren't aware you missed that part in video where he talks about making sure your orient a picture/logo so you consider where you'll be viewing it from.... and so avoid the flipping effect?
      I and many others here appreciate his efforts to share his wins and the occasional oversight we ALL end up having to soldier through simply because we're all human: a mistake here or there is part of the territory. Especially, when you take on projects that are complex and involve a lot of time and patience.
      You're comment in the end mostly reveals you to be the kind of person who nitpicks YOURSELF to death and so perhaps you never take on projects where a mistake or even failure is a possibility... Don't live that way friend. You won't grow up into your true potential! 🍻
      So lighten up, realize the important thing isn't we avoid mistakes but rather we are able to shoulder them, see the larger win in the overall picture of what we accomplished and LEARN THE LESSONS.
      No one ever need feel "bad" to "dare" to upload a video of their experience which shows a mistake or two but rather just have the courage and the wider view that doing so..... Shows each of us CAN DO any given project even if imperfectly.
      So my advice, is don't be so hard on YOURSELF: None of us are perfect but for those maybe like you, who wait until they "feel perfect" before they start on tackling any but the simplest of projects, mistakes are part of getting into the game. It's the wrong thing to focus on.
      No matter how many times you measure, at some point we all end up making that bad cut. It's OK.
      What's not ok is giving up before you even start, or beating yourself up because something didn't go as you planned. And your comment implies you might be this sort of person.
      If you're not making mistakes on YOUR PROJECTS, it's probably because your taking on teany weany ones: get in there and tackle a project big enough so you'll LEARN something, you'll TEST your skills so they GROW and develop the COURAGE and PERSPECTIVE to share them so others can WIN along with you.
      And, maybe think twice before "crafting" that insensitive comment while you chug your craft beer.
      You'll feel better talking that way to others who have freely shared their knowledge with you. Don't be the dog who bites the hand..... of the one who thought well enough to feed you 😊
