    I found plants are SUPER hungry-they need food beyond what you orginally put in the soil to start them off- in order to grow, flower & fruit-they need continual feeding-liquid fertilizer at least 1x week(neptunes is good) YOU HAVE TO FEED containers-unlike the soil where the roots can draw nutrients from the deep-in containers-any container-plants are limited to what you give them & watering & rain can wash out some of the nutrients as well. you'll LOVE LOVE LOVE your greenstalk planted with the lettuces, kales, small greens & root veggies- small bouquet herbs (not basil), snow peas, small flowers, think small foot print. save bigger plants/vining plants for garden beds, 5 gallon buckets & grow bags. btw Hoss Tools has some of the best germination in seeds.

    If you planted a tiny Tom or a very small variety of tomato it would work better. You only have a 10 inch pot to plant in, and you have to plan accordingly

    I planted Dragon Tongue beans last Spring in my Green Stalk and they did okay. My Sungold tomatoes produced like crazy. Also marigolds, basil and lemon thyme. Now I've got broccoli rapini, kale, beets, lettuce and still the thyme in the tower, and everything is doing great.
    I'm doing dwarf tomatoes, bush beans, lettuce and herbs this Spring.

    If you look up rainbow gardens she grew nothing but peppers in greenstalks and they grew really good!!!! Yeah, the challenge is organizing your plants right in the stalk when you have a big variety. I'm growing cherry tomatoes in the bottom of mine this year and peppers more towards the upper middle part. I'll do micro dwarf tomatoes in the top tier.

    You can’t put huge plants, or plants that start out small and get very large. Lettuce, spinach, strawberries and small rooted veggies would be much better.

    I think your problem might be not enough sun light? Because some of the plants appear a little leggy. Also, are you feeding them enough food? That could be another issue. Honestly, I think most of what you put in looked pretty good. There was probably just one thing that went wrong. Try leafy greens and see if those work out better for you. Good luck!

    I noticed that the soil level in your Greenstalk is not flush with the tops of the opening. According to their directions the soil level should be up to the top of the opening.

      Ac silly, I just read this from greenstalks blog: “Next, fill the GreenStalk with your chosen potting mix. It you are growing from seed, fill the mix to the very top of the planter. If you are growing from starter plants, leave an inch or two from the top to make sure you have space to plant.”

    I know it's kind of late to make this comment regarding the seed company that never got back in touch with you. I work in customer service. Our software for creating support tickets for customers doesn't automatically import emails that get diverted to spam. AND we respond to customers who THINK we didn't because their email server diverted our response to their spam folder- even if they emailed us first.
    Don't write off a company based on an email communication that failed.
    Thanks for the great video!!

    I just got my first Greenstalk planter and I plan to grow the following, from the bottom up: Baby Boomer tomatoes (small), flowers for pollinators, cilantro, flowers for bees/hummingbirds, and parsley on top. The flowers should grow no higher than 3-5 inches tall, and I bought a support ring for the tomatoes so they can waterfall over the second tier. I will let you know what happens.

      @@Inpreesme Life got busy. My upper levels did very well (flowers and herbs) but the lower tiers produced little fruit or plants. It could be that amount of sunshine they are getting because my neighbor has a huge overshadowing pecan tree.

  • @faithevrlasting
    @faithevrlasting Год назад

    Looks like an issue w watering. Suggest not putting things that need significant pollination between other bushy plants. The bees prob cant find the cucamelon blooms. Make sure only determinate tiny types or small like juliet or tiny tim in greenstalks. Lemon Balm (in mint family) and mint will take over the entire level w roots. I cant even grow brusels sprouts in the ground due to the dreaded moth damage in VA. Suggest 3 tomatoes and every other bean in lower level. Too many leaves will shade other plants.

      Some dwarf and determinate tomatoes stay fairly small. I agree though indeterminate tomatoes, especially cherries, just get too big, even if kept to a single stalk.

    • @BistrosHouse
      @BistrosHouse Год назад +2

      There are other RUclipsrs and bloggers that have very successfully grown tomatoes and peppers and even corn in GreenStalks. The thing with tomatoes and peppers is that they really need to be determinate, have good support, and you should leave the two spots next to them empty (and be careful what you plant in the layer above them as well, plant things that do well with shade or that are able to grow a little taller to make up for the shade they’re getting)

I love it one is full of only strawberries, the other has carrots,kohlrabi,celery, chives,and onions I'm going to replant with herbs,mint,flowers and basil maybe this spring, the leaf planter all my lettuce,spinach,kales etc. Going to buy the dark green one next. I use promix or fox farm soil like it recommended and haven't had an issue.
