Actually the name Barbar wasn’t given by the Romans to the Amazigh. The Romans had different names for the Imazighen in different regions. So they called the imazighen in modern Morocco Mauri, the ones in Algeria Numidians, the ones in Tunisia Lybico-Phoenicians (Cartheginians) and the ones in modern day Libya Libyans. The Greeks called the Amazigh Libyans and the ancient Egyptians called them Libu. The name barbar was given by the Ummayeds who were angry at the Amazigh for the great berber revolt. The Ummayeds however took the term Barbar from the Greeks/Romans.
