But then you have Holotori, the classification. Defined to be anyone who is in Hololive, _and_ is in-lore a bird or is in-practice strongly associated with a bird (e.g. Subaru). Since this is purely an attribute based definition, not an explicit de jure selection, Nerissa is part of the "all birds" Holotori.

It's also painful seeing in chat how people kept on insisting something along the line of "Subaru is fine with it, then Kaela should too!" The thing is, Subaru is Subaru. She's ok with it and jumped on the joke very early on with her insistence of 'not being a duck' is something that she's completely aware as being part of the joke. It was a pretty bold move naming the unit HoloTori and not expecting more birds to join Hololive. Especially when the bar is so low for being a bird that the _original HoloTori_ isn't even inherently bird related. Viewers just decided she is a duck, and it became so.

The holostars can form their own lineup honestly they already have enough members. Hakka and Uyu are already actual birds (I often see people talking about Hakka, rarely about Uyu, which makes me question if the people suggesting for him to join Kiara’s unit are actual holostars fans...) Jurard because he seems to really like the bird ancestor joke. And both Gamma (parrot) and Bettle (Goose) can be memed as birds. And there you have it, full 5 people unit, and multi-lingual too. I get the idea they told Kaela "Hey wanna be a penguin?" And she was like "A penguin? Yeah okay..." But she got less and less pleased with being a penguin as time went by.
Issue is ela is just about adamant on not being cute as she is about not being a penguin. Then you got the "get some help" and the lore of how she never has to sleep. Sometimes it feels like she has to be at arms length and combative to keep the jokes in line. Makes it hard sometimes to see where she lies in any of the issues. Besides some teasing can be fun.
This isn't like Zeta who, while continuously denying that she is a cat, still embraces the overall joke. You can see this in her new model where she shapes her silhouette like a cat but is not actually a cat at all to troll her chat. Or how Zeta declares herself the catlord of all cats. You could tell the teasings are two-directional. If you want to associate Kaela with an animal, do it with Goriela. She made a whole entire Gorilla character for it.

It was a pretty bold move naming the unit HoloTori and not expecting more birds to join Hololive. Especially when the bar is so low for being a bird that the _original HoloTori_ isn't even inherently bird related. Viewers just decided she is a duck, and it became so.

I get the idea they told Kaela "Hey wanna be a penguin?" And she was like "A penguin? Yeah okay..." But she got less and less pleased with being a penguin as time went by.
She actually pushed back immediately at her debut. The line had already been drawn since.
Issue is ela is just about adamant on not being cute as she is about not being a penguin. Then you got the "get some help" and the lore of how she never has to sleep. Sometimes it feels like she has to be at arms length and combative to keep the jokes in line. Makes it hard sometimes to see where she lies in any of the issues. Besides some teasing can be fun.
This isn't like Zeta who, while continuously denying that she is a cat, still embraces the overall joke. You can see this in her new model where she shapes her silhouette like a cat but is not actually a cat at all to troll her chat. Or how Zeta declares herself the catlord of all cats. You could tell the teasings are two-directional.
If you want to associate Kaela with an animal, do it with Goriela. She made a whole entire Gorilla character for it.
