  • Polymer Clay truly is a magical medium, just little changes in how you put a cane together give a whole different look. In this full tutorial I talk you through the whole process step by step through two designs using the same initial cane parts, with tips and techniques throughout, so you really can make your own. So, sit back, relax, and watch the process unfold.
    The music from the video is English Country Garden by Aaron Kenny available from the RUclips Free Audio Library.

    Stainless Steel Bowls can be bought from Ikea, sometimes Lidl, or online. Heave a search for what’s available near you.
    The Slump moulds (pottery forms) I mention are available in the USA - grpotteryforms... search their site for pottery forms, and the UK - www.potclays.c... again, search under pottery forms. Do check they are oven safe before you use them.
    Polymer Clay is oven baked, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the brand of clay you are using. I always tent the polymer clay in aluminium foil, to protect the clay should the oven temperature spike during the baking process.
    The amounts and colours of clay I use are listed within the video itself, I used FIMO Soft, but all recognised brands of polymer clay will work well for this project.
    I used a Pasta Machine dedicated to Polymer Clay use to create blends/thin sheets and condition the clay. My Pasta Machine is an Atlas 180, and it has setting 0 as its thickest and 9 as its thinnest. There is a standard way of calculating the thickness of clay required, by using stacked playing cards. On my machine the thickness are as follows: Setting 0 = 8 playing cards, setting 1 = 7, setting 2 = 6, setting 3 = 5, setting 4 = 4, setting 5 = 3, setting 6 and 7 = 2, setting 8 and 9 = 1 card.

    Wow! These are so beautiful! You are so talented at picking colors to go together. I knit and am always looking for inspiration because choosing colors isn't my strong suit. The tray with the greens with the peach, gold and bronze has to be my favorite! Definitely a color palette I will keep in mind ❣️

    Fiona, I love all your videos! I was wondering since some of your older videos have clay colors that the clay companies don't make anymore, can you make a new video on peacock petal cane? I'm just starting and it would be lovely to get ideas of colors to use than make a boo boo and waste a lot of clay.

      Thank you, I am so glad you are enjoying them. Yes, It is frustrating when FIMO switch around their colours so often, and no, sadly I don't have time to redo video's, I have enough problems at the moment finding time to do new ones 😂🤣But here's a link to a handy mixing chart that FIMO do, which should make finding the colour you want to use easier - I hope it helps, thanks so much and have fun with your clay - buyfimo.net/how-to-mix-fimo/ 🙂

    Question: is polymer clay safe for food ? Maybe for a little salad bowl ?

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks so much. Once it is baked it is an inert substance, however, it is quite easy to mark, carve into or cut into polymer clay even after it is baked, so I wouldn't recommend any food use, as you don't want little bits of the clay being caught up in food at all. 😉🙃🙂

    I did my own pattern using your general rules & some canes i had made earlier. I did make up 3 patterns to see. I will either cut more slices or do entirely different one from remaining unreduced cane making 120 slices & finish this one as a practice. ruclips.net/video/yzKXqsXxnb4/видео.htmlsi=3So5ggy0oCOBLbVh (my kaleidoscope attempt before finishing up)
