  • This is a quick and easy cane, with wonderful patterns that differ slightly each time you make it. Simply choose your colours and away you go. Create a pair of drop earrings, or Kaleidoscope the cane to get more complex patterns. Either way I take you through the whole process, step by step, so sit back, relax and see how you can make your own.

    For alternate domes to bake your piece on, have a look around your house and see what you have to hand. Ceramic or glass bowls are good to bake on of they have a nicely domed side. Or an old spent lightbulb is good - add some extra clay to the bottom of the lightbulb first so it stands upright during baking. The bottom of a drinks cans provides a nice domed form. Carefully cut away the sides of the can, and tape them to avoid cuts. Sand off any printed numbers from the bottom of the can base, as they can transfer to the clay. Also, there are some metal spoons that can give a good domed effect too. Just see what you can find.

    Thanks so much for generously sharing your clear tutorials. Like having a very patient teacher taking you through the steps! I’d been pretty unsuccessful with caning until I came across your videos via my polymer clay guild (LPGC). Combined this ‘dots and swirls’ cane with your hexagonal box tutorial and am delighted with the result.

    i noticed you bake often on a curve. is there a specific reason for this or just a design element?

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  2 года назад

      Simply design, the hexagons look good I think very slightly curved if they are worn as pendants 😉🙂

    Hi Fiona! wonderful video once again! im wondering if you'd mind if I asked you a question? I've just bought a machine, and when i put my clay through on a thin setting (anything thinner than a 6, even when taking it step by step) my sheets come out all ruffled, how do you personally stop that? thankyou!

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  4 года назад +1

      Hi Steven, yes some machines just do that, it is very annoying. Do you know about the Blue Bottle Tree and Ginger Davis Allman, she has several articles on pasta machines that may be of help, and I believe from memory, she covers this issue too. I haven't (luckily) had personal experience of this so am unable to say what I would do, so hopefully Ginger can help instead. I hope you resolve the problem, good luck :) thebluebottletree.com/?s=pasta+machines
