- Cat / Kitten spay surgery aftercare. Maia is fixed. She's spayed now and we are happy for it. Still have Mandy and Megan to get spayed soon.
At approximately six months is the time to plan for your kittens to be Spayed or Neutered.
In animal shelters, surgery is often performed at this time so that kittens can be sterilized prior to adoption.
Pre - Anesthetic Blood Work
Is it Blood work really necessary?
Yes, The veterinarian can spot early signs of countless diseases this way and can get a better idea of how anesthesia may affect your pet.
Blood work before surgery also gives the doctor a chance to potentially alter their typical drug protocol for sedation and anesthesia to a combination of different medications that safer for your specific cat or dog.
Every drug has it's side effects and we want the best outcome possible for you and your pet.
Most spay/neuter skin incisions are fully healed within about 10-14 days, which coincides with the time that stitches or staples, if any, will need to be removed. Bathing and swimming. Don't bathe your pet or let them swim until their stitches or staples have been removed and your veterinarian has cleared you to do so.

It's not difficult just watch her closely and the stitches you must quarantine her for 7 days for good recovery result of incision.
No worries she should be fine with good care of you just watch out her incision closely.
@@gperez6618 the first night she was disoriented and slept mostly. The 2nd & 3rd days she was very lethargic. Today she seems more alert and her incisions look good. I had to crush her pills and mix them in her food. Best wishes for your kitty tomorrow :)

I have no other pets, and was thinking wether i needed to put her like in the bathroom(wich is reaaally small in my apartment) or if it would be ok to just let her roam in the living room,?? Making it safe for her the best way possible too
I just got my cat spayed today. It's been a nightmare. It was extremely stressful for her. She won't wear her cone. Im at my wit's end. Pray for her healing please.
It’s a bit late. But if anyone has a female cat that is spayed and refuses to wear cone. Try to find a surgical jumpsuit that covers her belly but leave her bottom open for peeing and poopoo. I currently use it on my kitten. Much less hassle

That blue coat on her is such a great solution to keep them from licking their sutures instead of e-collar. My Chinyu just got spayed and both her and I were so uncomfortable with this extremely stressful collar thingy. I am going to make one for her asap.
My sweety got spayed and the surgery went fine she got infection and heavy discharge the 6th day and resurgery was done on day 10 as her stiches came of she suffering so much pls pray for her pls 😭

Just got my kitten spayed today. She is a little crazy right now. We did the cone, nope, did a baby onsie, nope. Hubs had to rush out for a surgery recovery suit. The best option for us. No one is going to get sleep tonight.
We're taking our cat to get spayed this morning. I'm a little emotional about it cuz I've never had a cat before so this is all new. She is so hyper and goes into heat twice a month so we knew we needed to get this done soon. She's just over a year old so we put it off for too long. I'm praying that she has a speedy recovery. Thank you for this video! I ended up cancelling my original appointments for my kittens because they were not going to do blood work first at the shelter. I didn’t know how important that was until I saw your video. Now my kittens are scheduled with a vet who will do blood work first. I’m also having two done at the same time, brother and sister both 6 months. The vet recommended that. I hope all goes well and I can handle both! This eased my anxiety a bit!
Why wouldn't they do blood work at the first place?
@@lizxu322 They didn’t offer blood work at the shelter. I’m guessing they didn’t have the capabilities to do it since they were a cheap clinic. I’m They said if you wanted it, you would have to have a vet do it. I’m happy I ended up going to our vet because my female kitten ripped her stitches out and I had to take her back twice to get staples. The shelter said they wouldn’t do any post op restitching. I also got a discount on the procedures by getting spay/neuter certificates from the Friends of Animals program. Some vets participate with them and will do the procedure for less.
I just got my cat spayed today. She is so much in pain. I can't sleep tonight because she is in pain. Pray for her healing please 🥺 (love you my kitty 🥺❤)

@@CatsLifePH hi I have a question. So having a cat, I never thought that there were many outcomes like I never thought female cats got Heat if I'm correct. I also didnt knew about needing to get them spay at a young age but I have a 9 month kitten. Is it safe for my 9 month kitten to get spayed?
@@angeliqpearl7125 Yes female cats need to get spayed at 6 or 7 months old or else you want them to go in heat and feel pity of them wanting a mate. Not only that they piss all over, yowling for 5-7 days and doesn't want to eat. Cats got spayed makes them healthy and happy fat kitties.

It defends where you live in our place it cost $80. I have 9 cats i only have 1 left is waiting appointment for her to get spayed this coming 24 end of month.

So glad that you covered this topic, and importantly that sweet Maia did well. You had so much detail to share. We just delt with an orthopedic surgery on our 6-month-old cat, it was challenging too.
This taught me that the recovery suit is a thing. My cat didn't come home with one, but I'm going to call my vet in the morning to see if I can get one, so thank you for showing me that!

Had two (male and female - siblings from the same cat mom) neutered 6 weeks ago. I live in Germany and it was around 500 Euros at the vet. So be prepared - caring for cats is not the cheapest thing on earth.

My cat go out 2 days after surgery and hide from us. We keep finding her for 24 hours and just got home because of catnip business. We are freaking but she's okay and her wounds are still intact after jumping to every rope. Cat has literally have 9 lives. Now it's their 4th day. I let her roam outside because she will hurt herself if we cage her and her wounds miraculuously healing.
It's okay she roam around inside the house just don't let her roam outdoor. Be watchful of her stitches ♥️

i had my cat spayed , a week ago.. butshe died unfortunately.. we were very sad for her lose... the issue was she lost her appetite completely after the surgery.. she refused to eat food.. itried to force feed her.. but that didnt work..she was a cutie.. rip brown manda..

I picked up a stray about 5 months ago. Looks exactly like your Maia but white. Just had her spayed too.
My vet sent her home immediately after the surgery was done and didn't prescribe any antibiotics

I got my 10 month old kitten spayed yesterday and she is already running around and refusing to not jump on furniture…if I lock her in the bathroom she will scream and holler and still jump on the counter…
Well my cat ate fine for the 1st 2 days with the e cone thing on but the last 2 days she wont eat. I gotta keep the collar on since she licks at the wound. Plus I have 2 cats so they're separated and I have stuff to do all weekend so I can't be around to constantly watch her. I'm getting worried. She would beg for food and eat every last bit..now she wont eat
Do I or the doctor need to remove the stitches/sutures after cat has healed? I heard it would take perhaps 1-2 weeks to heal?
My vet didn’t have an appointment until 3 months after she was 7 months 😩 I had to hear and see her be so uncomfortable for so long and It was so sad. She was spraying on all our expensive furniture so we had to make her a home in the garage where her sister would come visit for a few hours a day. I’m so nervous for her surgery tomorrow I wanna cry 😩
So sad to hear. She is going to be fine i know vet will take good care of her. And later you also take good care of her while recovering just be careful quarantine her for a week before you let her out and have some dress to wear for not licking her incision i know cat doesn't like cone at all so i made mine a dress.
Just had my cat spayed it was traumatic for both her and me - she has a very, very short temper, and can be vicious when made to do things she doesn't want to. The vet said she's one of the most difficult cat to treat, it took 4 people to drew blood and now she wiggled out of her restraining cloth...god bless us

I adopted 3 cat. 2 kittens 1 make 1 female. And one 7 yr old cat. When my female came home she was jumping on everything and try to play with the boys. Now im concerned she may have messed something up because its a swollen bump on the side. Vet visit coming asap
It's normal swollen like lump in my cats too it is cery important don't get the incision open. It's freaking dangerous if the incision will open and gets infected

Oh n it's not hot to the touch. Still doing a vet visit just to be safe. You would think she would be in pain. But that's hasn't been the case at all with orea. She s a ball of energy
I know how stressful it is to have your cat fixed, but it's for the best. I took 10 cats in to be fixed at one time and it was a job taking care of all of them when they all came home. I went through a rescue that worked with one of my Vets. I had over 20 cats left here that summer and had no other choose.

hello, how did you check her incision after the spay and how often did you do it? there's tape over my cat's incision and im afraid of pulling it and looking over. thank you and i hope maia's doing good!
Hi, after 3 days of surgery i pull it out slowly using alcohol in cotton balls for the tape to remove. Very careful you need assistant to do it. You need to spray medication to the incision everyday after pulled it out the tape.
@@CatsLifePH thank you so much!! our vet didnt give us medication for the incision though, but a friend gave me a topical cream she used to put on her cat's post-spay incision. maybe i'll try that cream after i pull the tape. thank you so much!! 😻💗

Is it best to to put ur kitten in one room and leave her be and just check on her ever so often my mums kitten has the cone of shame which she hates and we all feel bad for her and dont know what to do she already pulled her scab off cause my step dad let her have the cone off so she licked it

You shouldn’t wait to have your cats spayed at 6 months, as suggested because that’s when they go into heat. It should be from 8 weeks up to 6 months to avoid a heat and an unwanted litter.
How did you make the cats T-shirt?
I cut ✂️ some of my old clothing stitched it. I just learn it from some diy in youtube 😁 but mine is different
I have 2 cats one male already neutered and my female cat got spayed 3 days ago, she refused to wear cone and recovery suit, she went crazy if i put her in cage so i had to let her out. She started walking and jump to our bed and chairs I’m so worried she will break the suture but i cant keep her in the cage so for now we had to put our male cat in a room instead and let her be out around the house. Hi, my female cats just got spayed and I locked them for only 1week as per advised by the vet, should I continue locking them and put on an e-collar to prevent them from licking their wound?

Hello, I watched this video because my cat is scheduled to be spayed in 2 weeks and I'm really nervous. I don't like seeing her suffer. Are there any necessary preparations before spaying, like things to do, and not do before spaying. Food allowed or not allowed before and after the surgery. The surgery is free and I don't really know if I need to do something else prior or do I need to take my cat to a vet first before the surgery. Thanks in advance for your responses.
Your cat need fasting for 8 hrs before spaying and after spaying try to feed small amount of food. And more water near to her.
Question! Do you need to remove the bandage and change it daily?my cat gets angry whenever I try to remove it
After 3 days only you can remove the bandage and you can leave it without bandage but you need e collar or dress her so that she won't lick the stitches

Doesn't she have to wear an E collar to prevent her from licking the area !? I think she needs to ! And please check the area everyday ,just look at it ( don't touch it ),especially after using a litter box ,I believe . 💜💜💜❤❤❤💜💕
She is wearing a gown that blue color. My Cats doesn't like e collar i had tried to the 6 cats they hate it so i always made a diy clothes instead.😊

My cat is vomiting daily after neuter I am just not able to understand whats the problem?

Just had my lil girl done today, I decided to take an Uber halfway and a bus for the other half, I had her in a sling(which I totally regretted not getting a kennel" she started freaking out like crazy over the sounds of cars and car motion. So much so that she dug her claws into me which I got claw marks. I decided to just take the full Uber ride at 50 bucks cause I knew I wouldn't be able to hold her down for more than an hour. When we got to the vet, she had a freak out marathon when she saw the other pets hissing and growling like a maniac kitty, thankfully I got her secured in the kennel in the back room. Picked her up 4hrs later and she was quiet. Hope these couple weeks go by in a blink of an eye, wish me tons of luck guys lol😂

@@CatsLifePH she climbs the walls of her cage and lays in the litter box if I put her in during the daytime. :( I have sedatives for her. That’s the only way I’ve found. Let me know if you have other ideas.
If she will be quarantined for a bit should i let her out for litter box

You made a dress like what i does to mine and old cloth cut it and let her wear cats doesn't like cone at all

It cost 90 dollars here in Philippines. Spaying a female kitten is more careful for recovering than a male kitten because the female incision is bigger than a male.

My kitten just got fixed today and she is not happy, I took her cone off to see if she would lick a lot and that was a big mistake because she does lick it 😕 but all she does is growl and hiss at me when I try to put the cone back on. Any tips?
Just cut a cloths for her to wear cats doesn't like cone at all they hate it so much. Cut a 4 holes for her legs and tie it up over her body like what i did to mine.

Thanks for sharing! Our local pet wanted $600 for the surgery. We decided to do it through a non-profit organization. Surgery was $40 with free pet cone.

That’s what I had to pay as well. My ruby is getting spayed today. I searched and searched but the non profits and shelters have three to four months waiting list and a few had a three months waiting list to be put on the other waiting list which is backed up by four months. I searched for months and I couldn’t take it anymore and just paid the hefty fee to get it done. It sucks but I’m glad she is finally getting it done.
tomorrow, my sister will be bringing our 8-month old cat Blake to the vet for spaying. we named her blake because she's a black kitten lol. Clinics(for human or for animals) make me really anxious, i hope the surgery goes well. I'm currently researching about aftercare to make sure she's well taken care of when she comes home. Try to quarantine the female just got spayed don't let her get stress. No worries about your male cat he will recognize her soon. Let him smell the female cat everyday while inside her crate. It's really normal for cats mine does the same too..

She has litter box inside and she's not totally staying their i let her walk when the other cats are not around with my supervise
