I’m in my late 30’s and after never playing or collecting Magic cards I decided to get the mobile version to my surprise it wasn’t as difficult to learn as I had grown up believing it to be.
Do your Homework WatchMojo! Arkham Horror and Marvel Champions are Living Card Games (LCG). No boosters, no trading and fully cooperative. Both good games, but they should not be included in this list. And you missed Grand Archive, which is kind of niche, but a rising star in TCG.
I think they deserve to be on the list, but the list should be retitled as collectible card games, relather than trading card games. They deserve the recognition, and they definitely feel like they have similar enough qualities, but, yeah, they aren't, technically TCG's.
So glad to see Final Fantasy TCG on here! It's an amazing game with a great community, and the game just doesn't get enough love. The game is super healthy, but relatively unknown. That needs to change. There's groups all over the US, Europe, and Australia, with some smaller groups in Canada and South America. My favorite card game to date, and the competitive season is just about to wrap up, with Nationals and Worlds coming soon!
Heck yeah, Chaotic is really fun card game and I watch the show as it's really cool and it's lore is awesome and I made a fanfiction of the game called Chaotic World Crossovers and Chaotic fan cards with Icy of the Trix being one of my earliest creations.
Glad Final Fantasy TCG is getting some recognition. Having played about half of the games on this list, it’s definitely one of the best card games I’ve played. Only thing holding it back is the lack of advertising, so getting new players is a bit difficult. Hopefully this video helps turn some people our way.
I’ve played all of the holy trinity within my life time! When I was around 8 years old I played Yu Gi Oh, when I was 11 I played Pokémon and when I was 15 I started playing Magic the Gathering. I started out between coreset 2011, New Phyrexia, Rise of the Eldrazi, and Scars of Mirrodin. My first deck came from coreset 2011 and it was called Reign of Vampirism. Mono Black Vampires, high school had a massive MTG player base, 50+ to be exact. Good times 😁
I still play as well, but mainly Commander. My Commander deck has been battle tested, and has a 14-2 record in 16 matches. It’s a hard deck to run, considering that it uses all 5 lands. My Commander is the Ur-Dragon, with the Scion of the Ur-Dragon as a backup. It’s essentially a dragon deck.
@@saphiro007 Same, I play commander too these days. Actually just built my first semi competitive deck in the format (had a crappy deck before it built off the scraps of old cards).
@@d43m0n412 I only play for fun. Those that have lost to my deck were like, “Damn, that’s a good deck!” Those that beat it, found out pretty quickly to Mana Lock me, which, in turn, prohibits me from bringing out the commander. I lost to a guy running a mono black Commander, which he had cards that would allow him to gain life for every Mana Card I placed. He then used that extra life pull to practically destroy me in 3 moves.
Yo Final Fantasy's TCG made it on. And decently high too. That's great. The game is great and deserves more recognition tbh..now if only Square would advertise it more

MTGO and MTG Arena alone are enough to put MTG at the top of the mountain by itself. Plus it is hard to beat the feeling of an old school booster draft.
Lorcana is my new favorite TCG as of right now, even went to a major this past month. But there's no denying that MTG is the sole reason why I started investing in TCGs in the first place.
Duel Masters, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Digimon were some I've collected. (Duel Masters had really cool looking monsters) (I really want to see all Digimon but it's difficult when there's 1400+) (Yu-Gi-Oh has infinite monsters) (Pokemon is getting that TCG mobile game which I think Digimon needs)

First TCG was Yugioh, but parents werent fond of the "summoning monsters" mechanic. So I wasnt allowed to continue. I picked the game up again since Master Duel dropped and still going strong in the TCG. I have a regional next month (I play Spright). I've dabbled a bit into MTG and Pokemon (Not too fond of the games. Too slow for me) and currently play Lorcana as well. The only thing holding YGO back is prize support.
Mtg can be slow, sounds like you should at least check out more of the competitve scene there. Maybe with older more comp formats or cedh. To be fair may still be too slow for you bc modern yugioh is hoenstly way too fast.
I collected mostly Pokemon in the early 2000s, but indulged a little into collecting Yu-Gi-Oh and the original run of Digimon. I stopped after a few years, and got back into Pokemon about 6 years ago. However, this time I decided to learn how to play the game, it's strategies, etc. I don't play much irl, but I do follow tournaments and play once in a while at card shops.
Arkham Horror and Marvel Champions aren't trading card games, per se, they're "Living Card Games" -- packs have a fixed set of known cards, no randomness, no reason to trade. Android: Netrunner is the same, but since it's based on WotC's NetRunner, which _was_ a TCG, I'll give you that one.
Pour one out for FORCE OF WILL and BUDDYFIGHT. Also, RIP the goats Akira Toriyama and Kazuki Takayashi. Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh! we're instrumental in my childhood.
I still have my cards and watched this video to see if the Star Wars ccg made it to this list. Did you ever manage to play a game of Star Wars ccg with your friends?
Yeah the lack of anything Decipher on the list was pretty dumb. Let's do Net Runner and Vampire who were both massive failures but skip anything Decipher.
I really love TCG/CCG, and Magic was my first ever, I also would like to shout out WWF/WWE Raw Deal based around professional wrestlers(one of my absolute favorites ever), Marvel Overpower(it was very stylish but the game never took off sadly), Star Wars Customizable Card Game(playstyle was lacking), the Lord of the Rings TCG from 2001 as well(It deserved better, but was pretty popular when the films were being released) was glad to see MTG brought LOTR back into the card game scene. And the Harry Potter TCG(2001), it was short lived and I still have the cards, It had really nice gameplay and the card art really fit the vibe. I do not play anymore because anyone who has, knows how expensive it gets to keep up, and with how frequent expansions get released, you need a lot of dispensable income. Luckily there's still Yugi-Oh Duel Links on mobile and others to scratch that itch, and no need to spend money or spend a lot less to be competitive. I know I would love the One Piece game too! Called the top 3 too. the only way you can rank it.
I'm a bit surprised Force of Will didn't make the list. It's a more anime version of MTG sure, but it was a solid game overall. And is apparently still going relatively strong.
Have you tried playing Master Duel? takes like 15min for a turn. Play Duel Links on mobile, way faster way more fun and less complicated than the current game or Master Duel if you need to scratch that itch.
Used to go to Pokemon tournaments all the time during the games early years. With my mom or by myself. Would ride my bike to Kings comics in Burbank and play to earn Gym badges. Truly a great time.
That sounds like such a fun experience! Pokémon tournaments and earning Gym badges must have been a blast. Do you have a favorite memory from those tournaments or a standout moment from playing at Kings Comics?
I'm a little sad that Magi Nation Duel didn't make it, but very few people remember it. It was a great game made by a small company that ran out of money before the game could pick up more players.
Actually magic was not created by Hasbro or wizards of the Coast. It was created by Richard Garfield who adapted another game he had created. It also is not just a two-person game. If you aren't playing, you should give it a try. I've introduced probably a hundred people to it and have been playing for almost 30 years
MTG's biggest problem now is it is cost prohibitive. If a card becomes a staple in a format (especially modern) it can cost a small fortune to build a tournament worthy deck.
@@blaze556922 ehh... not really a great reference... but at the same time yes even modern designed cards have become more and more expensive to play with... as someone who has played competitively and also plays high and lower power commander... i must say the rate at which they are releasing new sets... turning formats like modern into rotating formats and also admitting multiple times a year that they have had to forgo play testing premier cards and also having inconsistent ban windows for cards to be re-evaulated... is making it a really hard game to want to be priced into... still love the game and i believe it still has a future but hasbro needs to let them slow down a little bit and find another way to get money then just out of wotc... cause honestly? it feels embarassing at this point that they havent been able to find another ip to allow mtg to truly thrive without their interference
For me its Magic, the first real tcg i got into and never looked back, so many ways to play and all kinds of different people who play. To me, its perfect
Feels criminal to not mention Sorcery. I know it’s new/in infancy compared to most of this list, but give it time. Feels easily like a top 10. Once AL is out, I feel like it’ll start gaining traction with the broader tcg communities.
I would have thought Pokémon or Yugioh would be number 1, but that might just be because I'm biased to those games. I'm glad they were in the top 3, but I guess that was to be expected.
@@ordinaryk that made me think of dragon born or whatever the name was. I think that bushiroad had like two card games that came and went while Buddyfight was active. I just feel that Buddyfight should have been on the same level as Vanguard especially when the cartoon was active and the commercials were playing when I watched the show on RUclips. Also there is a special 10yr anniversary card collection for Buddyfight.
Hopefully Lorcana sticks around for a long time. Would be awesome to have a solid TCG in a top 4 spot, seems to be Lorcana and One Peice fighting for that spot right now though.
@@greenheart5334 congrats, but by relevance, objectively speaking, yugioh its still below MTG, and below pokemon as well, again, this is not about liking or not, just about numbers.
Andriod Netrunner needs to be higher up. Seriously...this is probably one of the best games I've ever played. Love the asymmetrical play of a runner and corp which leads to interesting deckbuilding strategies and different styles of play (jinteki mind games, HB efficiency, etc.) It's action based so there is no "mana screwed"; if you need cards then draw, if you need credits then get them. So many important decisions to make each turn, which leads to player skill making a big difference in game outcomes. I'd take it over MtG any day.
yugioh should’ve been #1, i know i’m biased, but it is one of the few games where you could pick up your old deck and still play since there’s no set rotation. you would probably lose against the current meta, but it’s still nice to know you can hop back in at anytime even with cards from 2002
I started with Magic, then moved to Battletech CCG, played Pokemon and Duel Masters also a little Yugioh. Currently sticking to Battletech CCG even its already gone.
Sounds like you’ve had quite the journey through collectible card games! It’s great that you’ve found a lasting passion with Battletech CCG, even if it’s no longer around. Do you have a favorite memory or deck from your time playing these games?
@@WatchMojo favorite deck in Battletech is my steady Clan Jade Falcon Uller Swarm deck, for Pokemon the 1st Gen, is were you can put an opponent Pokemon to sleep then Haunter knocks it out with Dream Eater.
2:50 I feel Cardfight should be higher. Considering the price to get into the game is MUCH cheaper compared to Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, and Pokemon. That, and once you get the game flow down, it’s insanely fun.
Honestly, pokemon could arguably be 1st,tho unlikely imo..ygo being 3rd is just par per course, and I see nothing wrong with that, but I can't see pokemon being 3rd at all
The issue is pokemon tcg as a game isnt all that fun or interactive. Old yugioh was but now modern yugioh is just not fun in a diffrent way. MTG is the most played card game, almost as collected as pokemon and is fun to play in many diffrent ways.
@@wolfeyq7536 that's not an issue-thats a personal opinion. Your yugioh comment is, something that's shared by a lot of people, which is an opinion, but you're not wrong there. MTG is the oldest TCG out there, so there's not much to say, but it's still a fact the pokemon TCG makes more, is played more, and the pokemon TCG also has a vast history. MTG having different varieing formats does give it some icing on the cake and that's cool. I still say either of the two being first makes sense, but we all agree WatchMojo did NOT cook with this list.. M
@@DracoSenpai420 maybe im just out of touch with pokemon tcg or something. Our lgs's dont even stock pokemon here anymore its played so little in my area. Im honestpy shocked it has a playerbase as large as you say.
@@wolfeyq7536watch the the world championship for both games. More people watch Pokemon worlds than Ygo. Heck Pokemon makes more money than yugioh. I love yugioh (edison format all day) but facts are facts. Ygo is 3rd!
Suprised Chaotic and Cardfight Vanguard made it on this list, but no Future Card Buddyfight. It is the only game I know of that lets me equip a sword or pilot a Megazord to then smash my opponents face in alongside my demon lord dragon partner, then finish them off by dropping a giant flame sword on them. For those who played the game hope you get these references 😉. Also I laugh when you say Yugioh is the most easiest game to pick up if you see how many negate cards and rule deciphering there is in today’s format you never want to play again. If don’t believe me Konami has even said that pendulum summoning is way too complicated. But still love the game for my main boss the legendary Blue eyes white dragon.

Pour one out for FORCE OF WILL and BUDDYFIGHT. Also, RIP the goats Akira Toriyama and Kazuki Takayashi. Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh! we're instrumental in my childhood.
Yeah. Bushiroad’s handling of Buddyfight made me pretty sad.
I loved Magic, Dungeon, Hero and Legend world.
While technically a CCG, Star Wars CCG should be on this list.
My first TCG was YuGiOh, later on I played Chaotic, Duel Masters on the GBA games, MTG, and Cardfight Vanguard.
We all know YGO is the Best TCG. Lol. Great video though! 🔥
🎴🃏 Love the diversity in this top 20 card games list!
Respectfully Yugioh was fun when it was simple probably till XYZ but the game got so complicated that it made me stop playing it
XYZ was Fusion but with more steps lol
@@nattonep8788 Yea the pendulum summoning annoys me. Like it's so easy to summon stronger monsters
@@nattonep8788xyz is literally the simplest mechanic lmao
Have you tried playing Master Duel? takes like 15min for a turn. Play Duel Links on mobile, way faster way more fun and less complicated than the current game or Master Duel if you need to scratch that itch.
They tried to grow/mature it with their fan base, but it was like extending a child’s pair of pants over and over: still didn’t fit.
Im surprised that metazoo wasnt on the list since i hadnt heard of a few of the tcg on the list
I'm a little sad that Magi Nation Duel didn't make it, but very few people remember it. It was a great game made by a small company that ran out of money before the game could pick up more players.
I sometimes make trading cards out of paper like I call them The Beast Bombs Trading Card Game & BattleField Links Trading Card Game
I've collected Pokemon, Yugioh, Neopets, TMNT (2003), and Digimon trading card games.
Bruh i love that you put chaotic over universus. I long for the return of chaotic
I have been playing magic for nearly 20 years. Best tcg ever.
@@Alex-lf5oz yeah that's why you just play for fun. When you buy a car you don't worry about the Indy 500 lol
Only came to see if Chaotic is here and I am pleased. Also, read there’s news about a revival coming in Sept/Oct.
I still want to make my own card game. Magic being number 1 is no surprise. I wish Future Card Buddyfight made the list😢
It's really hard for a dead game to make a list like this. Bushiroad is notorious for killing off its own games that aren't Vanguard or Weiss Schwarz.
@@ordinarykAnd, even with Vanguard, the multiple reboots probably annoyed people.
I'm just here happy to see Flesh and Blood number 5 in this list...
Yu gi oh, card fight vanguard, digimon, duel masters are currently my favourite card game now
YuGiOh on #1
Yeah right 😂
Helllllllll no
Hopefully Lorcana sticks around for a long time. Would be awesome to have a solid TCG in a top 4 spot, seems to be Lorcana and One Peice fighting for that spot right now though.
Fingers crossed!
I love playing yu-gi-oh but cardfight vanguard is amazing
If magic isn't number one... I swear
Yep, there's MTG then there's everything else.
Of course it's gonna be number one, it's the tcg that started tcg.
I like ygo more. Just saying.
@@greenheart5334 congrats, but by relevance, objectively speaking, yugioh its still below MTG, and below pokemon as well, again, this is not about liking or not, just about numbers.
@@ademirmochi5423 bruh ikr
Pokemon was my first trading card game
I also recently started getting into Altered Tcg, pretty underrated but it's on the rise
Gotta love these trading card games!
Great to see Star Wars Unlimited here, even if it is a little low.
I'd take it over MtG any day.
i miss playing card games but with the prices of cards what they are i cant bring myself to keep up with the hobby
Chaotic should be ranked #1 ✊️✊️✊️
yugioh should’ve been #1, i know i’m biased, but it is one of the few games where you could pick up your old deck and still play since there’s no set rotation. you would probably lose against the current meta, but it’s still nice to know you can hop back in at anytime even with cards from 2002
Rest in peace fire emblem cipher. Truly you were too great to be localised.
Happy Cardfight vanguard is on here. Sad it’s so low in the list though as it’s my favorite cardgame.
Next time, how about doing a list of card games or other games that did not last long? That way, you could add Xeko to the list.
2:50
I feel Cardfight should be higher. Considering the price to get into the game is MUCH cheaper compared to Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, and Pokemon.
That, and once you get the game flow down, it’s insanely fun.
I feel like lorcans is too new to be so high it hasn’t been gotten over the two year curse yet
First wave of the game was awful. It got better after set 2
you're missing Lightseekers TCG!
does anyone remember Lightseekers?!
Don't know how ygo is 3rd to pokemon's 2nd, that should definitely be swapped as card games go. MtG is and forever will be the greatest though.
Vanguard at 17 is crazy work bruh
