Now, I'm an adult living in the city where everything have to involve money. The city life is eating away the happy fisherman inside of me. Your videos are amazing, so is your family. Thank you so much for sharing.

RUclips just recommended this video to me. Its very interesting to watch, altho I do not enjoy seafood much , ive come in contact with everything in the video at work. This all looks so real and authentic , the whole family aspect brings it to a whole new level. And the way things that might seem " obvious" to some people are still mentioned in a non condecending way. Fantastic ,wholesome , educational content. All which seems to be coming from a family of three... Whole corporations try to put out such content with entire production teams and fail miserably :D.

I don't know much about this, as I live in the middle of land-locked and cattle-fed USA, but I love sea food, and am entranced by how you find them, and how much care you have for the little creatures you put back (turning them over, putting the heavy end down; putting little fish back into the seaweed; covering things back up to make sure they live to see another day). I know you're looking for specific foods and sizes, but it's incredibly educational for me. I'd love to go on a "vacation" and have you show/teach me, or the opportunity with someone else. If you know you do that, or know someone, let me know :)

- I have noticed that in other countries crabs behave a lot differently. Mud crabs or blue crabs would run rings around one of our brown edibles. Which are quite docile especially as they get bigger. Maybe its the temperature they live in?
@@TheFishLocker Ah yes, that is a possibility. I live in a very warm country, and the crabs here are small. Must be fun having that huge free food lying around.
I've spent 40+ years buggering about around the sea and coast but you my friend are an absolute fountain of knowledge! Said from the very first video I watched that the channel deserved to be huge and now it looks like you're well on the way, congratulations mate.
55 years ago l worked the shrimp trawlers out of Florida. Lived on the boat or on the beach. Money was tight had to know every species of edible clam. The inshore Florida scallops weren't as big as yours. However on the 3'rd sand bar from shore, about 3ft at low tide, were the Pen Shells a large relative of scallops. They weren't as sweet as scallops but their adductor muscle was twice as big. Used a drift wood and palm frond fire, threw seaweed on top, then clams & Pens, more weed and sprinkle with seawater.. Occasionally, a Stone Crab with a fresh coconut milk as a chaser. Seems when one has nothing, every little thing is great.
You guys are doing such an important job, which is to give ordinary people some sense of independence from the system. To have the ability to feed yourself for free is 'real' power.

That is one lucky kid. Who of us wouldn't have loved an adventure like that as little one? My Uncle Bob and my dad used to take me pheasant and rabbit hunting in Iowa. I used my dad's .410. Five minutes of that teaches you more than 3 years in primary school. However, my primary school wasn't bad either. You usually just don't learn how to hit a plate-sized bird flying 30 yards away from you at 40 miles per hour and cook it with apple gravy and mashed potatoes for dinner.

I appreciate the respect and love you show your wife and son. Whenever your son has fallen or tripped during filming, you always make sure he is okay before continuing with your narration. Your love and respect for your best friend and helpmeet show in your actions towards her. Great job Husband and Father. You are a great example and also as a conservationist.

What an absolutely lovely family, and so much knowledge about the different species. Obviously very concerned about maintaining and preserving the stretch of beach there, and all the bounty it provides. Wonderful!

- Thank you very much Klenner. We are a family of four but this was filmed during school hours. We are simply sharing what we love doing in the hope that it may help others learn a little about the natural world around them. Thank you for your comment and welcome to our channel. I hope you enjoy the rest of our content and have a great day. :)

HAHAHAHAHAHA "it's gone, it's dead now" while holding the crab quite literally in half. I'm not sure how I got here but I'm enjoying it

It's weird how you can watch 40 minutes of this without feeling any time go by, super interesting
OK BOOMER - Thank you. I find this type of thing fascinating also. Have you seen our other foraging videos? 😊👍🏻🍽🦞🐚🦐

I just found your channel today, and as someone who spent the past 5 years studying marine science in university, you're doing an incredible job. The content is educational and enjoyable, really amazing. Thank you so much for this content!

What is with this video format that I enjoy tremendously. No nonsense reactions, no over the top introduction, highly educational, nothing about asking for likes and subscriptions(but I did anyways). I live inland so I cannot possibly relate to anything you're doing but damn do I want to be in your shoes right now.
- Thank you very much. We are simply sharing what we love doing. I am really pleased you enjoyed the video and welcome to our channel "short feet" haha. We have a few more videos on this topic on the channel you may enjoy. Any questions just give us a comment and I'll try and get back to you as soon as I can. Have a great day. :)

"He'll be fuming now" haha
He proper was!
Just started watching your videos after one got recommended, and I have to say- as a future father (first boy on the way) the way you love, teach, and treat your son is an inspiration!
Thank you and welcome to the channel. I don't mind how people find us, simply that they enjoy their time here with us. 😊
I love how you’re so respectful to the ecosystem while doing this
Polyana J he literally stopped the mating process of two crabs wym
But other wise yes he was very respectful with making the deaths quick and being careful with the animals
Polyana J - Thankyou, I am glad that this transfers across in our videos. It is a lesson I am teaching our children. Never take more than you need and always treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. 😊👍🏻🎣🦀🐚🦞
Void Rex - I did not intend on separating them and did put them back together afterwards. And if it makes any difference, I did feel bad for the guy afterwards. 😆👍🏻🦀
Your respect for the sea is incredible what you don't eat/need you put back and not only just that you ensure to put it as it was by covering it back similar to when u go catch scallops you always hide or put back the ones not for consumption.
Ricardo Maia - That’s the way I feel that everyone should be and is how I am teaching our children to be. I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. All the best Ricardo. 😊👍🏻🎣🦀🦞
I freaking love this guy and his adorable family!
- Aww thanks Lauren, it is our pleasure to be able to share our videos with you. :)
It's a real treat to watch you and your family harvesting and enjoying nature's bounty.
I am glad that you enjoyed joining us.
I like how you respect the fish by putting it back if it is too small. or putting them in a better place or taking off hitch hikers. and leave some behind from a cluster. Thats awesome.
Kahu Falaoa - Thank you Kahu I am glad that you share our philosophy. It is something I hope people learn from our videos and is a lesson we are teaching our children. Once in a very long while you find a gem of a RUclips channel- this one is one of them. Thank you for filming these slices of life and putting them up!
mailtorajrao - It is our pleasure, we are simply sharing what we love doing. I hope you enjoy the rest of our content. All the best from Cornwall in the UK. 😊🎣🦀🦞🇬🇧
- Hi there and welcome to our channel. If you enjoyed this video then we have a few more that you are going to LOVE. I can tell. Best wishes and have a nice day. :)
You have such a sweet family
- Thank you Kelly, I have seen a few comments from you on a range of videos. Thank you very much and I am glad that youre enjoying the content. 😊
Why is the crabs in your videos so calm? The crabs I know would have sprinted into another dimension before I saw it.
IOM Fishing - Thanks mate. All the best to you and tight lines. 😊👍🏻🎣🐟
- It takes a period of time in ones life when you have nothing for you to realise exactly what you need and what is important. 😊
"legal landing size" we all should know ours & respect it. Helping to try to ensure a full life-cycle of THAT animal.
- I agree.
You guys are doing such an important job, which is to give ordinary people some sense of independence from the system. To have the ability to feed yourself for free is 'real' power.
Robin Tripp - Thankyou Robin, our hope that not only can we show people what is possible. But also a responsible and sustainable way to do it. It is a lesson we are teaching our children also. Never take more than what you need. And treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. 😊👍🏻🎣🐚🦀🦞
It's pretty impressive how he knows basically every animal by just looking at it, wish I was like that when it comes to fish food lol.
And would ya look at that, you guys were right about me liking the next video
Simarded - I had a feeling you would. 😉👍🏻🎣🦀🐚🦞
I don't buy meats or animal products. But I honestly would have no problem eating this stuff. What a dream, get out into nature with family, share work, knowledge and love
- Exactly. Fresh as possible. Sustainably sourced. Zero food miles and zero waste. Anything not eaten returned to the ecosystem.
A lobster is considered a Marine ANIMAL so you can't buy these either, I will.
@@getin3949 im not vegan, but good for you?
I don’t know why but you videos are like a type of therapy for me

The Fish Locker keep up the good work man
Thank you for being so kind to the sea creatures and ethical on the sizes you keep, plus how you kill the crabs etc.
We need more people like your family in this world.
Melts my heart when you go and hide any small creatures to keep them safe. Passing that of thinking on to you son is priceless.

Let me tell you why I love this channel...other than their accent. Lol. They teach their son so much. The mother said "a" but corrected herself and said "an" so he knows the proper way of speaking. I love seafood. Lastly, he doesn't put the live seafood right in a hot pot.

First class video John - my 5 year old daughter is obsessed with sea life (thankfully!) and you're fuelling her passion. She absolutely loves your videos and will choose them over the usual RUclips kids options. I think we may well have to go foraging at the weekend after this episode!

It's nice to see you respect the land and critters you hunt and consume very field to table of you. Nice to see you bring your family around too.

Only take what you need and always treat the natural world with respect and appreciation. Have a great day Marie. :)
@@TheFishLocker I can promise you, your children will appreciate it as they grow up. I grew up in Kansas on the family farm, my granddad raised beef cattle and crops. He taught me everything about cattle and animals in general, beloved memories for all of it and even though the cattle herd is gone and he is long dead. I will return to the farm and raise my children and teach them as he taught me. Believe me, kids remember and they will appreciate it.

You usually just don't learn how to hit a plate-sized bird flying 30 yards away from you at 40 miles per hour and cook it with apple gravy and mashed potatoes for dinner.
eqlzr2 - Sounds like you had an exciting childhood. I used to beat on a small shoot when I was a lad. Great fun. 😊👍🏻
