- This video is about my band @braceyourselfband 's IEM system. This is an all in one setup that has made it so much easier to perform and sounding better in our ears (while protecting them) and sounding better to the fans.
If you're wanting to get any of the gear you see in this video I have made a wishlist link that you can then add all or add one or two things. Using this link does help the channel:

Now they know all of our secrets!
With the Scarlett being only two channels, click and tracks, does that mean you can only send one line of tracks to FOH? Say I wanted different EQs for different tracks would I need a bigger interface with more outputs? Or can you achieve it with the 2 channel?
The 8i6 has 4 outputs so we do stereo for tracks and mono for click and have a spare output. The PreSonus does all the EQing in our ears for us
The Splitters are the ART S8 3way. A very nice tool, does its job very cleanly. It is also very helpful that you can turn the rack mounting brackets around...
When he said "vocalist for brace yourself" I was waiting for him to say who he did vocals for.
Love that 😂
Cool build. As an audio nerd I would of loved to see more in depth the signal flow of everything. Would of been cool to see the rack turned around or at least at chart that shows what's plugged into what. Regardless, cool build!
I felt like I could do that in a separate video, I don’t like making super long 20 minute videos so I try to consolidate in 10 minutes or so
@@jamsscott Totally get it. I also realize I'm the minority in that I would actually love a 20 minute video explaining all that, but that's just me.
I realize it's dumb but I'd love to hear more about those colored XLRs, those make my brain feel good.
Also would be sick to have an in depth look at the Logic session for tracks/lights/midi switching in the future.
Yeah those colored XLRs are available through B&H with the link in the description. I built them to size for my setup. As for the logic session in lighting I do have a video I did a bit ago about that; but I do plan on making a new video with my updated logic project 👍
@@jamsscott damn I just noticed this too, what's that little tiny 1/8 rack unit thing you have your antennas on? I gotta rack that I need an open space to be able to fumble around in the back of and this would solve a lot of my problems.
@@DirkMonroe I actually made those myself
@@jamsscottI was just about to ask about those! They’re sweet!!!
Great video as always!
Glad you enjoyed it 🤘
Hello, just a question. How do you connect the midi connection to the mac for the DAW to control the QC's when changing scenes, your clean tones, and tunings and then at the same time having the Focusrite connected to your mac for your tracks and click tracks? Are these just connected via USB or something? Thank you so much.
@@SevenfoldStudiosph yeah it’s usb connection to my computer and the focusrite has a 5pin midi then daisy chains to each quad cortex
Question: where do you store your tails? I assume you prepatch a big bundle in the back and just have a long tail for sound guy?
I just have a patch bay I can unplug a snake and put that in a separate case/cable bin
What are those custom cables? is this something i could find online or just something you make in house only?
NIce build... I'm actually looking to upgrade to the 16r for our live rig and was wondering if there is a reason you opted to use the focusrite as a separate interface instead of routing your click tracks to the 16r from the laptop via usb.
It’s a fail safe so if the PreSonus failed and we had to use monitors or have FOH mix our in ears we can still do a show!
If only that mixer had 8 outputs. Maybe my 4 piece band can get used to mono for live monitoring. Do you bring your own drum mics? Or do you use the house mics and plug them into your setup? How to deal with drums quickly and efficiently with a setup like this has always been the biggest mystery
Made massive upgrades since this video. We now have 32 inputs with 16 outputs available.
We bring everything ourselves and plug them in ourselves. FOH gets a snake with all of our inputs
I've been to many venues that have their mixers prepatched in a way that can be difficult to remove all the inputs and patch yours. Including shortage of extra inputs. How do you deal with that, considering the fact that in some cases you will be sharing the stage with some other band and there might be a 20 minute changeover?
Sweet video man! What IEM transmitter and receivers are you using?
Sennheiser G4 IEM A1 Band
With the QC's & Wireless in the rack... How do you deal with tuning? (Not asking about the digital capo in QC)
We would either have tuner pedals with a cable and quickly tune during a pause. Or we would have a friend on the side to help tune guitars to make sure it’s good for the set!
Well done!
Thanks so much! And appreciate you watching!
Did you set up the audio interfaces as an aggregate device or is the presonus used as a standalone mixer? Tnx
@@gobecproductions PreSonus is a standalone mixer. Also got an upgraded IEM video if you wanted to check it out!
SWEET RACK! And GREAT video man, thanks a lot! I just have a question... How much Rack space does the QC take? About 2U? I'm thinking about moving from the Helix Rack (which takes 3U Spaces) to the QC. But I'm not sure if it'll really make a difference in space saving
It takes 2u space and I think it’s a great way to go. Reason being is we can use it as a pedal board if we want to or keep it in the rack!
Great vid!
Can you make a little video on how to make logic communicate with the QC's? I've tried it a little, but couldn't make it work. Probably some settings or so. In Ableton I could get it to work, but I live in Logic, so would be great if someone made a video on that. Can't find any good ones:)
Cheers!
Great build. Very tidy. Maybe I missed it, but what ate you using for a wireless router?
How do you transfer phantom power through the splitters? Or do you not use phantom power in your rig ?
The direct out transfers phantom
How do you have the wireless mic plugged into the Art splitter without the cable going from back to front?
Flipped the art s8 splitter and it’s a 3way splitter
Great setup! How are you guys tuning during the set?
We have tuner pedals with a short cable to where we mute and unplug and tune, it goes pretty quick. If we don’t have those we usually have headstock tuners as backups
Can anyone tell me what version of the focusrite this is? Looks like 4i4 third gen so you can have stereo tracks and click separate
8i6 2nd gen
Don't need the interface, the mixer is an interface. route the click out one of the auxes or outputs.
Well if the interface fails we can then do floor wedges and have the drummer wired and have a backup to run tracks and click
How do you separate click track from the FOH mix? Or how did you make click track sound to be heard only on IEM?
On the interface you have multiple outputs. The stereo output is automatically routed to output 1+2 and then I told my daw for the click to be output 3. Which that goes directly into the mixer and not the split. So there is no way the click will go to FOH
@@jamsscott so that means for your gig you use atleast interface with 4 outputs??
@@zinpin2210 I use 3 of the 4. Cause 2 for the tracks and 1 for click
@@jamsscott thanks alot🤘🏻👍
koolest rig ive seen
Thanks so much! Some new stuff has come out so might even make it crazier 👀🤘
@@jamsscott epic! the sweetwater link leads to a blank page just a heads up
@@DylanEdmunds updating it, had a client want to build one so I used that link. It’ll be updated soon
How many Units did you leave for each quad cortex shelf ? I think it looks like 3 units each but I want to be sure
I think I’ve seen people do it in 2U, but don’t take my word for it
@@jackery_guitar4062 so is it 3?
there's no list on sweetwater anymore, it's empty. Not sure if i'm doing something wrong.
I kindave dont understand how it all runs into eachother, just that its connected
How do you tune your guitars? Do you have another pedal board on stage?
We have a guitar tech usually but we are gonna have an update on our rig by doing pedalboards for everyone. New video on that soon
holy trust fund for all that gear.....$$!$!$
Lot of flipping burgers to get this bad boy lol
Total cost estimate? (minus QCs and laptop). Beautiful setup/vid btw 😊
European price currently
3 Sennheiser EW-D Base : 1800€ total
1 Senheiser EW-D Antenna combiner : 630€
3 Sennheiser EW IEM G4 : 3000€ total
1 Sennheiser AC41 Antenna Combiner : 749€
1 Presonus 16R : 1200€
2 ART S8-3-Way Splitter : 860€
1 Scarlet 4i4 : 178€
That's a total of ~8420€
Obviously you could build something similar on a budget tho, the idea behind it is the same.
@@MrLOLKAS thanks for this!
Why a three-way split? One split to your IEM Mixer, one split to FOH … where does the third split go? Or is it one in/two out?
The Art splitter is one in/two out
This is sick! How would you multitrack record your set AND run tracks with that setup?
Just plug in the PreSonus to the laptop and open logic to recognize it. But make sure it doesn’t do any output
Oh I see, and record it in the same session as the backing tracks? But not have playback from the tracks being recorded.@@jamsscott
@@paradisedriveofficial id either run two different daws if you can. If this is a must for you to record with the same laptop. Or open another session of your preferred daw
Thank you@@jamsscott
What is the app called
I guess a lot goes into changing a song in the set.
Not anymore now since I switched to Ableton using Strange Electronics Setlist plugin. Video on that in the works!
@@jamsscott Sweet. Apparently I have a lot to learn.
