  • TVS is currently the only mainstream two-wheeler manufacturer that offers both electric and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) scooters in its portfolio. On one hand, you have the Jupiter, a well-established, practical family scooter that’s been giving the Honda Activa a run for its money. So it’s definitely a potent offering. However, its ‘sensibility’ quotient is under threat, thanks to the ever-increasing fuel prices.
    That’s where the iQube Electric comes in. The new Fame-II subsidies have made it a lot more affordable, pitting it squarely against ICE scooters, in this case, the Jupiter. But is it really practical enough to replace the everyday ICE scooter in your garage? We decided to put it through the ultimate litmus test, and here’s what we found:

    70-80km in Eco mode might be the range when new, but what about a 3 year old electric scooter? Wouldn't battery efficiency go down with repeated charges? What if there's then a need to go 2-up in Sport mode given the extra weight, this may not even give 40km. Feel like products like the Ola S1 Pro are one answer to long-term range anxiety, at least on paper. I see my next scooter as an EV for sure, but waiting till there's at least a reasonable buffer between real-world range and my usage.

    Battery replacement of ather 450x costs 75k here in kerala. And even a small accident can damage the whole battery and repairing isn't possible at all. Replacement is the only solution. And have compulsory paid service in every year, have to choose the subscription plan for the connected tech, extra payment for placing charging system in the home etc. So buying an EV scooter isn't a safe choice as of now.

    Ather started it it but I think Ola and Simple (when it actually goes into production) will take the EV game much higher. That begs the question do Bajaj and TVS need to up their game? I very much think so.

    • @THUGPUTIN

      Companies like Ola will loot india until main players come to e bike segment😅.. Yamaha, honda and ktm is working on swappable battery and Ola scooter global version also has swappable battery but in india they fixed it to make money... (no resale value on bikes due to fixed batteries)
      Bajaj, tvs, honda and yamaha are not idiots... They know how market works and all these companies have openly said india electric system for transportation is not ready.. Don't think that these companies are not capable of producing better e bikes, You need to understand india still uses coal for electricity and government needs to bring regulations on charging stations still.. When Indian government doesn't get money from petrol how will they run govt? They will add separate taxes for electric stations 😂😂..

    • @TheLazyWandererMys
      @TheLazyWandererMys 3 года назад +2

      @@THUGPUTIN I do agree with you on most parts. I never said they are not capable. Most e bikes/scooters only offer fixed batteries. It not like they cant be changed, it wont be possible from an user end that's all. Problem with big players is they normally play safe offering 'just enough' with 'take it or leave attitude', while new players/start ups have to do max to get noticed . Etergo does offer swappable battery I know, but India is a price sensitive market and any little money that can be squeezed out, manufacturers will do it.
      Without Ather doing what they did with 450, we'd still be having Chinese knock offs being rebranded and sold in India. So competition is good, it forces rivals to up their game and that is exactly what I am hoping for.
      And about India being ready for EVs, well I agree on that too, but unless the sales justify, companies wont pour in big money on infrastructure, they are interdependent. And about our govt squeezing out citizens on fuel prices, they very well likely will do it with Eletrcity or Hydrogen or anything ppl will use. When people dont want to speak up or shut the ones who want to speak up, what else do you think will happen?

      @@TheLazyWandererMys 8 years ago elon musk promised swappable battery due to which Tesla took off (that event is on youtube and his famous quote "so the decision you need to make is, do you prefer free or fast") ..fast forward 2021 Tesla doesn't have free charge station and fast battery swappable station... 2021 Tesla has hit line where it can't do anything innovative(it's autonomous driving hasn't seen any improvement) and accessible/affordable Tesla is nowhere to be seen.. People needs to wait and respect branded auto/2 wheeler makers instead of believing brands like Ola.. Startups like simple one and ather 400 didn't promise anything that they can't launch or provide but where is Ola charging stations? Ola is not a startup and we won't have a single charging station from Ola during launch.. Showing graphics video of charging stations is easy bro.. Like I said, brands like yamaha, honda, tvs and ktm don't sell products in india without market research or system.. Example recently yamaha said they'll focus on 150cc to 250cc premium bikes because India is ready to buy it even if it's price is bit high for usd forks.. These brands will not launch something that people won't buy or ready to buy it.. Tesla and Ola can play hit or miss(trial and error)game but reputed brands can't because if there electric bike/car failed then the whole reputation goes down.. One of the reasons toyota, honda and suzuki have not entered the market fully...

      @@TheLazyWandererMys wait at least till 2023 when it comes to electric car/bike in india... I'm not stopping anyone but I'm just saying it's too fast for electric bike to be reliable or accessible in india... Yes, Ola is just new ather which will sell more and give notice to big brands that india is ready..

    • @TheLazyWandererMys
      @TheLazyWandererMys 3 года назад +1

      @@haiwanroar6416 Yes I agree it will take time. Please don't mistake for EV promoter. I very much like ICE engine and its convenience and the driving/riding pleasure.
      My point was purely from 'EV adoption' perspective, the adoption is interdependent. Companies will do their lil bit for early adopters, when numbers rise, that's when they will be convinced to invest more.
      Mr Gadkari had announced that most petrol bunks will start offering EV charging in India, but that has yet to start to my knowledge and India being mostly a bright sunny country, Solar energy could greatly be harvested too. But if you live in a city/town in houses than apartments with access to a plug point, charging EVs overnight wont be an issue and with most of them giving 60-70kms of range atleast, it could very well last for 2 days min for most users. There is a lot of work to be done indeed but we do need to start somewhere. :)

    They say battery cost is 30-40K now. After 4 years, it will be 15K. How is that even possible.. We all use Duracell or Eveready AA and AAA batteries. Although it's technology , usage has improved in the last 1o years, the battery price is double for a low technology like that. And you guys just like that say after 4 years a 3 KW battery will cost 15K. That 70K saving will just go in battery replacement and charger cable :) itself !!!

    Instead 50k , consider 25k km city ride for 3yrs, that's more realistic, so the fuel cost will come to half 42-44k and further. Whereas EV cost would be 13k for electricity + 15000 battery cost minimum then total come to 28k. So definitely EV NOT worth at the moment for two reasons 1. Lack of Charging points in metro cities and corporate societies does not have seperate meters for flat owners 2. You can't consider EV for long rides for the 1st reason itself. These two flexibilities are the road blockers inthe EV sales.
    3rd. Battery quality will degrade over 25k km ride. It won't give similar economy over a period of time

    Lpg cylinder is now 920rs, earlier it was 419rs in 2014.
    Petrol was 70-75Rs and now in some cities more than 115rs. Diesel too is much expensive as compare to 2014.
    Medicines, Refine Oil, Musturd Oil, Rajma, Dal, Chana, Bread, Milk, Eggs, Butter, Honey, Mixture, Tea, Coffee, Sweets etc etc everything is almost double the Price as Compare to 2014.
    Scooter, Bikes, Car, AC, Washing Machine, Tv, Fridge, Juicer, Microwave etc etc are now available in Much Higher Prices as Compare to 2014.
    My Question is How come Battery worth Rs 40k now will Cost around 15k in Next 4 Years?
    How can you be so sure abt it? What if we get the same battery in 80k to 1 Lakh in next 4 to 5 Years?
