    This is a really good modification. good job Kamon! When I use that type of veil, I prefer to tie it off on the side instead of in front. If left handed, tie on right side and vise versa. This eliminated getting the string caught in what you are doing, and "un-tieing" it by accident! I also recommend a black colored netting, for improved visibility, less glare. If you get a suit as Kaymon mentioned, get the flexible, fencing type hood so you can flip it back and sit in your truck without taking the suit off. Very useful video Kamon, keep up the good work.

    Great instruction on that style. I have used the Kelley Hat/Veil Combo with No Strings that has the elastic loops that go under your arms. It keeps the veil and neck mesh away from your body, it stays in place quite well, easy on and off. Visibility was excellent since this has a fine metal mesh. I purchased a replacement in April from Kelley's but the have since discontinued it. Sad as it was such a good product. Simple veils are great when mowing the bee yard.

    Thank you so much for this explanation. My vail works just the way you explained it. Now I can wear it knowing my neck is protected. My vail from Dadant came with the loop in the back. I never knew what it was for and my neck was always exposed, which the bees are drawn to of course. I know because I got torn up pretty bad. I like wearing it when I am giving the bees water. It saves time when you’re not going in the hive. I feel so much better now wearing it!

    Very common sense approach to fixing the neck problem. If I had any bees in my swarm traps, I'd order one from Kellys. I actually have one with a helmet in my cart, been holding off till I get stung - that's how it's done , right? They'll probably be sold out for month now, thanks to your smart video.
    As always, thanks for a great video.

Two questions: 1) what’s the best vaporizer value?; 2) should I just go ahead and get the provap 110 anticipating that I’ll end up with a lot more hives than I plan? Thanks.

    Since the first video you wore this veil, i've been searching for it. Mann lake has only ever had the 'Alexander with elastic', Kelly's seems to have the 'pull down veil' and from reading all others require a helmet in addition. I know you said the link is in the description, but for a second video you've said this i've gone through the description and comments and zip/zilch/nothing. Every site i look at has white background so the tops of the veils are invisible. Did you sew the hat (im sure its not a helmet) onto the veil. any extra info would be awesome please. Cheers

      Bradley they had this on their website in the past but I couldn't find them just looking in the veil section. They should be there but they are not! However, if you type in MV-300 into the search engine of Kelley's or Mann Lake it will come up as the Clear view veil.

    Can not tell you how many people ask on getting stung and if your afraid to get stung then don’t be a beekeeper . But do homework of finding the best temperament bees if your afraid of getting stung . I have been stung by an Africanized colony over 250 stings and I have my personal hives that a little smoke and shorts and tank top on and maybe one sting but most is my fault on those strains .

    • @mikeries8549
      @mikeries8549 4 года назад

      So...exactly how high did you get after 250 injections of bee venum? I got hit about 25 times on a cutout...on my hand.
      I didn't lose use of my hand but I did have to sit down for about 3-5 minutes. What a rush. 😂
      It felt like electricity.

    How to Tie a Bee

  • @DoubleTopHoneyCo
    @DoubleTopHoneyCo 4 года назад +3

    lol, your thumbnail looks like Mr. Bean's Veil Review.
    Hey, sheep skin gloves. How to keep them clean. I went thru my strongest hive the other day, a single deep with 4 supers that needs a split. So a little context - 7 am just 20 minutes after raining all night, altimeter was off so that makes them angry (I will be conducting a study on bees and barometric pressure because I can find nothing "official"), I starting collecting a few frames of honey and several went after me. As I smoke my gloves and tool going deeper to the brood box, the bees got worse. Brushing a few bees off the honey frames also aggravated them. I had at least 100 bees stuck to my gloves and jacket sleeves stinging me at least 15 times below the elbow in just minutes. That's more than the last 3-4 yrs total. I was able to wait 30 minutes to let them calm down to put the hive back together, but that was touchy too.
    I don't know if I should requeen or my gloves and tools weren't clean enough and had dead bee pheromones and stingers all over my gloves.
    Yeah, they are starting to attack my hive tool, too. As I get an inch or two from the frames, a few bees attack it and that gets the others excited. Do any of you clean your tools while in the yard and if so, what do you use. I only have this problem with 2 large colonies. I think the split next week will calm them down. Splits easily grow and I recommend investing into Better Comb just for broods and quick expansion. Better Comb worked very well for me.
    To back my case of using essential oils, In one yard I split 3 hives into 12 and can most likely split out another 4-6 next week before Fall starts. I expect about 15-20 9-frame supers just from this new yard. I had a zero mite count from those 3 hives last year and have only seen one beetle this year using the guardian entrances. I'm having much success on the Plateau this year, just tired of the 2 colonies attempting to attack me. Ideas?

    • @paulchristu996
      @paulchristu996 4 года назад +1

      Bill Henson I keep one of those tiny $2 containers of vaseline, with some wintergreen and peppermint oils mixed in, in my pocket, and rub a little dab in to any sting site. Seems to mask the pheromone. Some of my hives make huge amounts of propolis, and everytime I work them the glove fingers get all gunked up and begin sticking together. For that, I use the big jar of vaseline, liberally rubbing it into the fingers and let it sit overnight if possible. Most of the propolis then comes off easily with a fingernail.

    • @DoubleTopHoneyCo
      @DoubleTopHoneyCo 4 года назад

      @@paulchristu996 Works great. Of course barometric pressure was normal, didn't just rain all night, wasn't 0630 in the morning, and I handled them more gently. Thanks.
      Already took a 9-frame box off that hive this morning and added another empty. I also went four boxes down into the brood and found the queen to mark her after 6 months.
