So upset with the RUclips algorithm that it took so long to suggest this video for me. The 12 string bass sounds amazing and you play the hell out of it.
Beautiful playing; smooth technique and so incredibly musical all around. So many 8- and 12-string bass videos basically establish a cool groove (and that's fine too!), but this is 1000 light years beyond that. It's like Chet Atkins came back as a roaring bass player: melody, harmony, and solid bass line all combined by one understated and most proficient player. Well done!
This is one of the great "hidden" gems on RUclips! Scott's Bass Lessons just did a video on the Hamer 12 string, I left a comment directing people to come here and check you out!
Lol with that mass killing weapon you don't even need a guitariste in your band and the way you handel it is amazing ! It's like gettin' rid of a fly with an atomic bomb without any collateral damage !

Needed to find this video again and the channel, it's what made me fall in love with the 12 string, and you don't need a guitarist for a 3 piece or even a 2 piece band
I'm impressed! Man I wish I had your fret hand placement, you look very comfortable. I'm guessing you don't have huge hands but you sure cover the neck extremely well.
do you think that there is a big tone difference between an 8-string and 12-string? and I am more of a finger player then a pick player. I am planning to build one and don't know if I want the octave strings on top or bottom of the root. Any opinions there? Love your videos by the way. You've got the best tone going on of anyone playing these types of basses.
Thank you for your comment. I think if you like overdrive sound, 12 is better than 8. You can play that both finger and pick. You may want to set low strings on the bottom of each courses, same as my 12. especially play it with a finger. When I play 12 with finger, bass string has to be hit first. so I think bass strings have to be on the bottom of each courses. Incidentally, many 12 players like long scale, but I think short scale is good to high octave string resonance. Too much string tension is not good for the sound.
The 12-string makes the octave sound stronger than the fundamental, which makes allows to bass to more easily occupy the sonic space of the guitar. 8-string basses still allow the root to dominate more due to more vibrating mass from the bottom strings. As far as construction, if you put the lowest pitched strings first (as in first plucked), it will catch the brunt of the pick energy and sound louder than the octave strings. All depends if you want to maintain the low-end punch more or if you want to have the chiming of the octaves stand out.
I had been playing bass for 20 years by then and when I switched to a 12 string bass my fingers became inflamed. For the first few years I needed a Kevlar finger protector. Now my left hand fingers are longer than right hand fingers.

@@logansfury Thank you. There are others who leave comments like yours.
The youtube algorithm does not seem to like my videos.
This is what happens when only the bass player and drummer show up to the gig...very nice arrangement 👍

The person who gave this a thumbs down is clearly jealous. Excellent job.
I’ve admired the 12 string bass ever since I became aware Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick pioneered the instrument.
You play it well!
Tom influenced Dug Pinnick of King's X to start playing them.
Very nice! Your right hand technique looks so relaxed, you're very proficient.
