- This is a great way to get familiar with mohair cinch making. Making a mini cinch involves the same knots and weaving techniques as a full sized cinch. However the time invested in making a mini cinch and the cost of materials is only a fraction of what it would take to make a full sized cinch. For a 17-strand tied cinch, one might easily spend $75 or more for mohair and hardware (not to mention the cost of a loom). If you've never made a cinch before, it could take 5 hours or more to complete such a project. Making a mini cinch will take 15-20 minutes. Depending on your source, material for a mini cinch will cost no more than $5 or $10 and the loom can be made with a piece of wood and two screws or nails. Besides that, it won't cause injury to horse or rider if you make a mistake on your mini cinch.
where did you get your 1/2 scale mohair and when will you post the 2nd part of this video? I would like to make some of these for my family for Christmas
Hi Brenda, if you send me an email I'll send you some info on half scale cord ... my email is pop@popwagner.com
For 1/2 scale 8 ply....is that taking 8 ply and pulling it in half?
No ... if you pull 8 ply in half you will have 4 ply. For half scale 8 ply you start with singles that are half the diameter of those used for regular 8 ply. Tracey Hart makes half scale 8 ply. Her website is www.naturalfiberproducts.com
