Taylor what a lovely car wow it's come up lovely all that car needs is the rust treating underneath the car and a bit of a welding around the car and it will be even better than it is but wow it's just wow you've done the car proud
Many true things have been said about the greatness of having Taylor on this channel, but I just want to specifically mention how much I enjoy the addition of Robin (and now Bryan) in these videos. Both their banter and their professionalism when it comes to detailing really take the whole quality up a notch.
Such a pleasure to watch people take pride and pleasure from their work. The ribbing is natural and amusing with no BS, forced "humour" or "banter". Alex must take notes.
Superb you’ve saved the Allegro! They’re not rubbish like the haters make them out to be. I rescued one from a paddock my mates mum bought new in 1978, metallic Brazil brown 1500 LE with a beige vinyl roof. I put full size white walls on it for a laugh and renewed all the hydragas suspension spheres , Allegro got more attention and people stopping to chat about it wherever I went than any other classic I’ve ever had.
I also had a Brown Allegro in the early 1990s and it was a great little car took my family camping in Cornwall no problem. It was very reliable and economical as it was fitted with the venerable Austin A series as fitted to the mini and the Morris 1000 and many others. Most of the people who claim they were crap never owned one, they are just repeating a well known, but untrue opinion.
@Ayedidyae More nonsense from someone who never even owned one. The floor pan of the Allegro was from the Austin 1100 the best selling car for decades, the engine was also the same as the 1100 the Austin A series. The only thing that was different was the modern rounded body shape, yet you claim it was the 'biggest disaster'. How could it go from best seller to disaster just by introducing a modern body shape ?
I have to say that I’m really liking Taylor’s presenting style, it feels very honest and is nicely relaxed, not the frantic hectic style of some others 😂
My dad is a retired mechanic had a 1974 Allegro from 1976 up until 1991 and it ran sweet as a nut. Only reason it got scrapped was there wasnt anything left to weld to ;) it never missed a beat in its life!
It's really refreshing seeing RUclipsrs treat old cars with respect, even if they're considered shit they have lasted this long and deserve to be cared for
These were underrated cars to be fair. You’ll think I’m crazy when I say that I swapped an old Mk2 Granada for the exact same Allegro like Taylor’s one. The Grammy was becoming a rather expensive car to use at the time way back in the mid eighties, and I swapped it for the Allegro at a garage down in Bosham, Hampshire. The Allegro certainly wasn’t as quick as the Granny, but it did all I needed it to do, and was a reliable car. It did well, and I did well when I sold it for more money than the Granada owed me about a year later. Great video Taylor, and such a great detailing job. Looking forward to seeing more of the Aggro. 👍
I love this episode. Just the simplicity of it all. No digital gauges, no million sensors. Is it me, or doesn’t the front look a lot like the new Honda E? I’m sure some smaller EVs are taking inspiration from classics like these. Can’t wait to see the next episode.
@@danpaul4975 I must admit, I loved the design of it. If they did a petrol or diesel model I’d get one. I’d have to retro fit some chrome mirrors though 😂
This is the best videos on these channels, mostly because there's no Eck or Ruaridh in it. Taylor is the genuine article, but mate, if they've told you to pronounce the channel with a stiff upper lip, tell them to go and ram it. Just do you fella, don't go changing to try and please anyone. Owt-oh-alix is fine with us and the world needs the real Mccoy.
I'm glad to see the Allegro getting some love. I must have had 20 or more Allegros in my time, and liked them all. The oil leak from the gear linkage is very common. I think the only ones I had that didn't leak there were either 1500, 1750 or automatic!
The 1500 came with a five speed gearbox and was no way as bad as the people say. If BL had made the 1500 the entry level car, I'm sure the reputation of the car would have been much better. The 1750cc was really quite a lot of fun...
Great to see Taylor hosting, you are great at this, made up for you now that you have decided to make this your day job, even more great content, The AutoAlex channels are right up there and fast approaching, in my eyes, Top Gear greatness
Love this, takes me back to my first car (Hillman Avenger 1500 super). So easy to work on and so mechanically simple. Managed to do everything from a head gasket replacement to full services and bodywork on the busy roadside outside my parents house. Awesome episode!
This is so calming and relaxing whilst also informative and an amazing watch. I feel like Alex feels like he has to be over the top constantly which is just not the case. Can’t imagine how draining it is for him and the people around him.
my first car was an Allegro 1100. I think deluxe, but not sure. it was a couple of years old when I got it an already starting to rust. Rubbing down, rust treatment and rattle can paint job and it looked great. No more rust. It was a great platform for my Pioneer head unit, the first with digital display. Aiwa power amp, 6 big speakers in doors and parcel shelf and even a pair of Pioneer tune up tweeters on the dashboard. I loved that car, had it for quite a few years, replaced it with a Dacia Denem, my first new car purchase. They were not a bad car. Comfortable, roomy and reliable (in as much as it never let me down). Well done for keeping this one alive!
The second Ad is so amazing, I didn't even skipped it! Also looking forward for more content by Taylor on V2! As much as I love the banter and silly laugh with Alex, Taylor and Rory. I love the calmness of Taylor in V2, so it balance things out. Having a laugh until my face feels warm on V1, and just chilling on the weekend morning with V2.
I’ve commented before that I can’t watch when Taylor and Alex get together when they first did. I just find the forced banter too much. Rather like I much preferred when Edwin was with Ethan and Jack on car throttle. This episode is right up my alley. Love the detailing guys and Taylor together. The car is so beige it’s good. Great program, hope to see more like this one!
Taylor!!! PLEASE make your own channel, I love the quirkiness of the usual AA videos but this was a really nice change of pace. You need to make videos showing how to replace, maintain and fix items in our cars. I promise to be your first subscriber! Keep up the good work.
My first car was an S reg. 1300 super, in blue with blue velour interior, not the best car I've ever owned but the most fun and memorable. Loving seeing this one being brought back to life
My grandad had one of these in the late 80s early 90's. It was a beige estateand he was so proud of it! Great memories, pure nostalgia...I would keep hold of this one!
This was a brilliant episode, loved the banter with Viking but then the professionalism just shone out of Taylor really enjoyed the calm way he presented the mechanical bit. Brilliant content 👌
My first ever recollection of a car is my grandparents' red Austin Allegro Estate, as I was born in '75 it must have been around '79 and I only have this mental image of it parked in their driveway. The first drive I ever took was in their Volvo 340, I borrowed it just before I had a license, so I could go to the draft (military) somewhat 100km away... Thanks, Gran for always believing in me❤
Although there is rust in a fair few areas of the allegro it doesn’t look to bad for a 70’s car. Could be a good one for possible a future restoration. And too find one in such original condition so you know there’s no nasty surprises hidden under filler is just amazing, really excited to watch more video on this car. 👍
As the 1100 was a bad ruster, when they wanted to replace it rust resistance was one of the things they went for in the Allegro. It had faults (eg. rear side windows popping out) but rust wasn't known to be one of them.
Great to see an older car getting a second chance to be enjoyed. Taylor you make a great presenter even if it’s not what you ever imagined you’d be doing a few years ago, good job 👍
this with the original autoalex channel has got to be the closest to the original top gear we've all looked and hoped for. thank you from little old new zealand to the true original, the UK
When i was 18, no money and a crap job my late dad bought me a little green one of these. Initially I hated it but over time I grew to love it. When it became apparent it wasn't worth repairing anymore i was actually gutted. Nice to see you bring back these little gems 👍👍
I absolutely loved this! I get the appeal of the Ferrari but what really drew me to and keeps me coming back to this channel is the great team and the fact that you buy cars that anyone can get and have a bloody good time doing it! Don’t stray too far 👏👏👏
This is really enjoyable to watch! Im sure we would all appreciate if you made more episodes like this. "Wheeler dealer" style fixing. Not in your face. Loved the detailing aswell, the boys do real good work!
Love it, this Allegro is the same age as the Marina I bought in 1987, which all be it Leyland I kept till 93 and sold on in perfect running condition. Same colour as well, white with brown interior.
Love your solo videos Taylor, you've become such a natural in front of the camera. Dare I say it, but your presenting skills are so good that you could easily carry a very good Wheeler Dealers style set of videos with yourself and Jooshy, maybe bring back the trading up series for that G series? Your main advantage is that you can talk the talk but also walk the walk with the spanners as well, which was always my bug bear with the main WD show.
Great episode as ever.Taylor is awesome whenever he does his thing on here. The All-agro polished up a treat as well. I can’t help but hate them,my sister had one and my bro in law spent almost every weekend under the bonnet or under the car putting many things right with it.Can’t wait for the next episode all the same.
You are right, Allegros are cool now! A certain JS from TLBS has K20T swapped his sleeper Allegro. Would you consider mild mods to yours? Go 'old skool' on the A series! Twin carbs, lumpy cam, re curved dizzy, balance, port and polish. Keep it sleeper but fun:)
Allegros are fun, man. A and E Series engines are nice enough, they handle ok and the way they lollop and bounce along is hilarious. I think they're really underappreciated.
I will always remember the Alegro for the front wheels breaking off (common fault on cornering?), and I actually witnessed that 1 time on a rounder bout in South Wales UK back in the 80's!! Just remembered also if you lost your keys you could open and start it with a pair of hairdresser scissors or straight small nail scissors lol!!
This brought back some memories, my 2nd car was a t reg 1.3 in pageant blue ( amazing what you remember 30yrs later) was a huge step up from the 1.0 fiat panda it replaced. had it for a few years and over 20k miles only issues were a stuck thermostat and a dead alternator
Superb video, you guys are great together. Grew up with allegros. Grandpa had a burgundy 4 door 1500 super with a 5 speed box! That covered 100,000 miles and about as many wheel bearings from memory. He also had 2 a door 1300 auto it white like yours but with the brown vinyl roof. Grandpa said they always had their faults but they always got him home, so 100% reliable 😅 the oil leaks are built in as standard on an A Series as well. Rust prevention sir.
The gear selector was a common leak on allegro and the mini. As long as the gear selector shaft looks in good order, you used to be able to fit two new seals to stop it leaking as one didn’t always fix the problem.

My favourite channel in the ‘auto Alex umbrella’. Taylor is brilliant - glad to hear he’s going full time with this sort of thing
Completely agree!
Such a pleasure to watch people take pride and pleasure from their work. The ribbing is natural and amusing with no BS, forced "humour" or "banter". Alex must take notes.
Yes just the right amount of silliness / cheekiness, not the usual tedious predictable AA nonsense….
It’s unbelievable how natural Taylor is on camera, nothing is forced, nothing is pushed.
Just a man that really can do it!
Much better than Alex too
100% compared to the ADHD fuelled nightmare that the main channel can be this is amazing
Alex is a dickhead most of the time. Much prefer Taylor.

Grandpa said they always had their faults but they always got him home, so 100% reliable 😅 the oil leaks are built in as standard on an A Series as well. Rust prevention sir.
Taylor, it’s a pleasure to watch you. The joy you have for cars is uplifting.
The gear selector was a common leak on allegro and the mini. As long as the gear selector shaft looks in good order, you used to be able to fit two new seals to stop it leaking as one didn’t always fix the problem.
