I started playing at a young age (~4) but it took me until age 9 to take my first graded exam (G2) as I hated it. It was until age 15, when working towards G6, that I really started to enjoy playing, and played in my first full band at that age. I finally passed grade 8 at 18, and I am still playing now at 20, mainly in worship sessions. It's incredible that you managed to play in a jam session just after a year! Keep pushing on!
@@midlifefunk I have just played more often in full bands, the first one in January, then last week, then another one at the end of the month, and one more next month.
Hey G! Most of what I did is posted in my channel. Learn the basics first, triads and major scales. Then how to construct 7th chords. After that, start to play jazz standards and look for patterns on how the melody and harmony relate. You'll start to see why scales and chord construction matter to improvisation. And probably the most important to improving is--- record yourself and watch it over. Take notes of your patterns. Learn where you tend to make mistakes. I err on the side of being too early to a beat. Knowing that, I can constructively practice timing. I hope that helps! Support my channel and subscribe!
great job!
Currently working on my own progress video. Thank you for this such an inspiration

Love this. It would be real nice if you can do a video and explain your practice and what you went through :). Well done lad 👏👏👏

Practing a little a day is the recipe to success. You'll get there Jako!
Nice! Did you have any classical training before this or were you completely new to the piano?
No training at all. Just started playing over COVID!
