May I make a suggestion: A real test, particularly after 5 weeks would be to be compared with the same wine, unopened/uncoravined bottle. You need 3 samples including that control sample / baseline. Then I would try this on a couple of varietals or white and red wines and of different age.
Love that you tested a Croatian wine! Thanks for such a thorough experiment. For those who haven't watched the review videos for each device (you should!), Coravin Pivot is only guaranteed to preserve wine for up to 4 weeks after the open date. Can't wait to see more feedback from y'all on Pivot!
Great video Matthew I own a model six absolutely love it.The wife is not a huge fan of Malbec it allows me to drink some of my favorite wines and come back tothem months later. Especially Catena Zapata, can’t do without it.👍
Another good video! I'm actually testing both here and I find them both great tools, each for a different purpose as you mention: Looking forward to a sparkling version in the future :). It will help a lot wine bars, shops and restaurants
Hi Matt, thanks for this!! I've been trying to decide the best to get for screw top bottles-- Coravin Pivot or Timeless screw caps?? Would love to know your experience/ opinion... Thanks:)!
Love this!! I’m studying to get my somm certification and can’t wait to watch more of your content. I’m also in a deep dive on researching which CV model to purchase. I don’t mind spending the extra money for one if it will really give the wine the longevity it promises.
Great experiment and great info. I want to dabble in aging my wines. Do you think the model 6 will allow me to taste the same bottle of wine year after year to taste how the same bottle has aged? Does Coravin model 6 truly preserve a bottle for years?
Hey Fergie, I am just editing a RUclips short on this very subject. I reaccessed wines that I initially Coravined four years ago. All eight bottles so far have been LOVELY! I am really impressed. I will be doing another video comparing the same bottle after one month (with and without Coravin).
ty for your video very knowledgeable. I'm more of a red wine drinker and would love to have up to six bottles started and taste them each day for about maybe 2 weeks no longer, plus red wine gets better when slightly aired out , so which would you recommend ? ty
Hi. Can the bottle be laid horizontal after using either device? Or will it leak? Do u need to remove some of the foil before inserting the needle ? Thanks
With the Pivot it's more for the lot drinking consumers who appreciates the quality of the wine staying a fiew week at least! 98% quarantine for preservation! The original needle is for the valuative wines, for shure!
@@drmatthewhorkey That would be awesome. I know you are having a tough time with the company right now, but it is hard for most people to spend 300 dollars on something that might not work. If the fresh crack and the preserved/coravin wine tasted 95% the same it would be easier to justify, but I see several reviews saying the wine that has argon added to it becomes muted or dull.
It's not a perfect system but IMO, it's the best thing out there. I always recommend people to get the basic Model III (i think it it is 199) as it has all the features of the model six. I have an upcoming video about the model III vs Model six
In Australia, most of our wines are with screw cap in the last 10 years. In this case, I think it would make more sense to purchase Coravin Pivot as we would need to open the bottle and put the Coravin stopper. Agree?
@@drmatthewhorkey Just came back from Margaret River for Christmas…. It was wonderful…. I feel like a kid in a lollie shop. I found out about Coravin from one of the Vineyards. Purchased one and waiting for the order to come.
This pretty much confirms my expectations. The only reliable solution for one month+ seems to be the coravin needle on a bottle with original cork, since that's the only solution that doesn't involve opening the bottle. Personally I think the pivot is a pretty useless product, because if you're going to open the bottle, there are other solutions such as argon sprays, or repour, that seem to deliver similar performance for a much cheaper price. So imo, you have to either go all out on the needle coravin, or use a cheaper compromise. But very useful test!
Thanks for stopping by. I find the Pivot best for distributors that are running around pouring wines to different retailers, or for consumers that like to have three to four bottles open at a time

Thank you and I was surprised by the test after one week!
You are adorable! Thank you so much for doing this tasting test for us. I love my Coravin Six and I love it even more now.
Hahahah thank you. Glad you are enjoying it, I’m a huge fan of Coravin too

I would use pivot
Totally loved this! I think I'd like to try the Coravin Pivot with some red wines. Great experiment bud.
Thank you! It does work for reds too of course :)

I've had a lot of success with the needle systems. Thanks for your comment on the other video.

Does the pivot also require argon gas cartridges?
Yes

I like the needle based system for that
@@drmatthewhorkey what’s the reason ? Because I though u would want to give some air in the red. Just curious ty
Hi. Can the bottle be laid horizontal after using either device? Or will it leak? Do u need to remove some of the foil before inserting the needle ? Thanks
Yes to lying on the side. The needle can go through the foil so no need to remove it.
Will the needle based system cause a drip from the cork if the bottle is placed on its side?
With natural cork no
Thanks for the review! It was really helpful! Just wondering which model would you choose? Model 3 or Model 6? Thanks in advance :)
If money is an issue, Model III is good enough :)
Well done! Love my Coravin!
Thanks!

U got it!
A test I want to see is a fresh crack of the same bottle vs a coravin 6 after 2 months of accessing a few times
I will aim for this in the future :)

Should have been a blind test in my opinion to be truly unbiased and fair. But thanks for the info!
Thank u
"Hey babe,I saw this new tool that will allow my wine to last 5 weeks in the fridge"
"Oh honey,bless your heart,you don't need that"

I agree and I LOVE Aussie wines BTW. Big fan of Margaret River, Yarra Valley, and many many more regions.
