【Global Family】We love Fukushima strawberries!【Bottomless pits】【Kagamiishi Revitalisation Project】

- This time we took advantage of the strawberry season and made parfaits worthy of Instagram! We met up with Takumi & Hiro Koyanagi of the Kagamiishi Revitalisation Project. Takumi is a chef with over 10 years’ experience and he showed us how to make an easy but delicious parfait. Together with the girls we made the compote and caramelised pastry to go in the parfait.
The star of these parfaits, Fukuharu strawberries, are a special Fukushima breed of strawberry. These strawberries were grown at Tobisawa’s Kagamiishi Noyuen, and were picked fresh that morning! The girls loved feasting on the freshly-picked strawberries!
We were very lucky to be able to visit Kagamiishi Noyuen and see where they grow their delicious fruit. The owner couldn’t resist the girls’ charms and fed them strawberries straight off the vine, and showed them where the most delicious part of the strawberry is. We also learned about strawberry flowers which Lily was surprised to learn aren’t red.
The girls did their best getting involved in making our parfaits, and were excited to make their very own desserts. Of course, they were most looking forward to eating them, and they gobbled them up in no time, to the great surprise of the Koyanagis.
Mama loves to bake so she made some Polvorón cookies to go in the parfait. A Spanish shortbread similar to snowballs, our special guests found them delicious which made Mama very happy.
