      Daniel Thompson It is about being turned on by overpowering, humiliating, and/or punishing women. It is about sex but the bigger problem is the men that not only have deviant fantasies but also feel they have the right fulfill those fantasies with unwilling victims. I don’t think most people believe sex has nothing to do with it. If rape was about sex, men would just go around raping instead of dating.

      The power and abuse can exist in other areas. Why is only sex that is subjected to scrutiny? I remember when we actually used to enjoy sex.

      Indeed it does. Contrast the incidences of rape in Sweden, where prostitution is illegal with that of Denmark where it isn't.

Phil tried to nip that in the bud so he could get to make sensible points because talking sense to people is 90% of what he does. Phil is serious about solving problems. Steven just makes fun of them. Steven could have tried to meet him halfway instead of playing the buffoon. This was not his best segment.

      Actually that is a fallacy hinged on a disconnect. The disconnect is power and sex. It assumes a narrow view of sex as a monogamous couple POV. It ignores the interplay between power and sex. Our ancient species competed in battles against rival alpha males for mating rights, so right of the bat you have a direct connect between power and sex. Women also reward powerful men. Power and sex have always had a connection.

      Narcissists are SHACKLED to their personal lie and they abuse people to make them agree with the FAKE reality that the Narcissist won't budge from: they will even kill to keep up the facade. They cannot abuse power unless you enable them. The enablers of Narcissists are the main problem (GOP is the best example today: they supported the delusions of Trump because it was in their favour at the time, and now they don't know what to do: they created the monster and now want your help/sympathy because the abuser has switched from enemies to consuming family from within). Abuse of power looks like what these people are doing but they are pawns to covert-narcissists who keep them like minions, but it is the lack of self-control (or blatant behaviours) that can alert ANYONE to the nature of these people: we just need to address it instead of just saying "bullies be bullies" or throwing the word "victim" around so casually. Survived a Narcissist should be the new motto.

      "Being an alcoholic doesn't make someone steal alcohol."
      LOL. Yes, it most certainly does. That being said, alcoholism is an actual addiction. People are addicted to sex the same way people are addicted to the food in that just because you want something to eat because you feel like eating it doesn't mean you can't just say no instead of giving in. Addiction doesn't work that way.

    • @anorine294
      @anorine294 7 лет назад +1

      Alcohol doesn't cause people to commit crime. It certainly makes people more likely to behave poorly, and I wish that there was more help for those with addiction issues, but it doesn't excuse that behaviour. By that logic, an alcoholic who is drunk who rapes a woman should be off the hook. Also, I am a recovering addict myself, and have done things I certainly regret, but when someone is violent, that is on them.

    • @mekelreen9869
      @mekelreen9869 5 лет назад

      Deborah Hoffman I think he’s making the same mistake many people make in this situation, thinking the woman’s feelings are the man’s motivations. Women who have suffered abuse feel a loss of power and when women are perpetrators, such as the couple he had on his own show that sexually abused their children she said she enjoyed it because of the power. The men don’t give power as a motivation they give it as a tool they use to get what they want, sex. The men who talk about this openly are pretty consistent, they wanted sex and they had the power to get it, not that they abused someone sexually to feel powerful.

    • @justanotherhappyhumanist8832
      @justanotherhappyhumanist8832 5 лет назад

      Dr. Phil is not a practical realist - not the persona he gives out to the public, anyway. This whole video is more than a little ironic, considering what a remorseless, unethical, bullshitting, pseudoscience-promoting conman, narcissist, and liar Dr. Phil is most of the time.
      The things he said about sociopaths are actually accurate, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Dr. Phil has spent his life lying and conning people - just like Donald Trump. The irony here is that not only is Dr. Phil describing Trump "hypothetically"...he's also describing himself.

      I'm a little torn on sex addiction... I mean Weinstein is clearly not a sex addict, none of the women consented to anything. That shows it was indeed about power, not sex.
      However, if someone sleeps with multiple (consenting)people constantly, you have to work out whether its low self esteem or is it just a high libido. But if its something that gets in the way of your relationships and day to day life, because you have a compulsion you can't control, that's an addiction.
      I know my opinion isn't fully formed or clear there, sorry, I'm exhausted and its late!
      One thing is for sure though, Weinstein is NOT a sex addict.

    I mostly agree with Dr.Phil on him saying a lot of people who get caught cheating on their spouse use the "I am a sex addict and need help" as a very insultive and narcissistic bullshit excuse. However, some of my very close friends who were unfortunately molested by someone when they were very young, have very serious deeply unhealthy wired mind frames on physical intamicy. It does affect their cravings or lack of cravings for sex or intamicy in a HUGE way and most of the time don't even realize it is not normal. A few of my friends who were molested are VERY addicted to the attention they get from sexual experiences and is how they value themselves and are in denial about it for a long time. They almost can't control their sexual urges and it is their vice instead of drugs. Than, after my sister and I were molested by our "sperm donor" at very young ages..I am on the complete opposite side of the spectrum and any kind of sexual action or attention immediately scares me and is something my husband and I had to work on together. He use to get super insulted about how I was wired and thought it was all his fault until we had a very deep heart to heart talk and I told him what happened to me and my sister. I had to completely trust in him and feel comfortable and safe before I could go there sexually with him but after he showed me unconditional love and lots of patience I was really able to heal and love having sex with him now. However, I had PTSD flash backs when we had our children and the doctor would have to check my dialation and other things like breast examinations. I would have a complete anxiety attack and it didn't take long for my OBGYN who delivered our kids or another random doctor doing a pap smear on me saw the red flags and asked me if I was molested as a child..once they knew I had been they were so patient and gentle and sensitive to my feelings about it. My point is if healing from molestation is not dealt with in a healthy manner as a young child after it happens it can completely re-wire your brain in a very fucked up way on either end of the spectrum of either being a sex addict or being like me.

It is very particular so seeing someone who isn't well trained can kill you. My first therapist, who didn't meet this criteria, well really the second one, tried to convince me to reconcile with my abuser! This messed up broad couldn't see that one of my abusers wanted just that. To regain control over me to continue to abuse me. Too stupid for words. The first one the state sent to me was a young man. I wasn't about to tell him how another man lied to me, used my fear of horrible abuse to get me to do things I didn't want to do. When I reject his offer he asked if he could take me to a baseball game sometime! Didn't know me yet he knew another man manipulated me. It felt like he was asking me for a date? Granted he might be just incredibly stupid or a predator in disguise? I wasn't about to try to figure him out. Why would a stupid state agency send a male to counsel a female, minor victim of sexual abuse? Yeah, sadly it took a bad marriage and my grandmother passing away to finally lead me to find a qualified sexual abuse therapist. Thankfully, I am one of the lucky few who found the help that I needed. Sadly, most victims will find you will need therapy on and off for the rest of your life if the abuser/s were family members. Who else can you really trust?

    The reason the people who were gunned down in Las Vegas pulled together was because they all were there in the same horrible situation. When a woman is raped, she’s on her own, because people don’t generally choose to single out someone to rape or sexually assault in a crowd. These are two completely different scenarios. That’s why men and many women don’t often believe other women and children when that happens to us. Cops shrug their shoulders and detectives question what you were wearing. Just because Dr. Phil doesn't have a sex addiction, doesn't mean that there isn't such a problem as being addicted to sex. Dr. Phil admits that other therapists agree that there is such a problem as sexual addiction. We are all different, and some therapists (such as Dr. Phil) don't seem to grasp that issue as fully as they should. For instance, if someone came to him and said, "I am addicted to sex," According to Dr. Phil's own words, he would say, "I don't believe you, because I don't believe in sexual addiction." That's on par with the psychologist Jordan Peterson saying that there is only male and female, and anything other doesn't exist. Because they suffer from tunnel vision, some therapists are dangerous to the mental health of others. One woman said that her husband was so addicted to sex, that on his way to have sex with one mistress, he would stop to have sex first with another mistress. If "that" is not sexual addiction, I don't know what it might be.

He is under the Autistic Spectrum w/OCD and obsessive tendencies. From what I witnessed in reading through his numerous correspondences (eventually included photos and videos), it was a gradual step-up to the physical encounters. He finally admitted to me he couldn't get to sleep w/out some kind of interaction. In my mind it was an addiction, like any other physical addiction. It ended up replacing sports and his beloved hobbies. In the end, it's all he did - staying up all night and sleeping most of the day. And, like any other addiction, he had to want to stop. Spending 10 hours a day masturbating is NOT normal. Seeing how they use sex to avoid dealing with emotional pain and trauma the same as people use drugs to avoid pain is no different from a drug addict. sexual addiction doesn't have to be tied to assault....there are people who are able to do consensually or if they have the money, through prostitution....now, that doesn't make it a good thing, because like any addiction, there's consequences of engaging in too much to an excessive extent that it becomes all-consuming

    I’ve heard two things about all addiction that makes the most sense to me: 1) Addiction is about people tragically trying to get their autonomy needs met, and 2) The Opposite Of Addiction Is Not Sobriety. The Opposite Of Addiction Is Connection.

    As someone who was bullied, often times the hardest part of being bullied was being accused of being one myself. Simply by not being perfect and having many obvious flaws was enough for people to ridicule me for being just as imperfect as they were just in a different way. When I hear people talk about Trump, the vast majority of the time they call him psychopath, demented, evil, narcissistic, and even things like Biff (a bully from Back To The Future films). That is in itself is bullying someone and becoming the thing we hate. Aside from that though, he has genuinely helped our country and economy. Whether you want to see the facts of that is up to you, but even if you disagree with his policies, the outlandish behavior of attacking a person's character, especially one you never officially met, is unfair and uncalled for and needs to be addressed.

      Rae LV, You’ve obviously not looked at the situation in depth. Trump was given over $400milion by his father, yet filed for bankruptcy 5 times, stiffing those who did work for him and driving small businesses out of business. He owed so much money he was lassoed into doing “The Apprentice” to pay it back. No American banks will do business with him so he had to go to foreign countries like Russia to find funding. He’s trying to get Trump towers built in Moscow, which is why he sucks up to Putin, who is no friend of the U.S. A long list of professional PhD psychologists co-signed a letter stating that Trump is profoundly psychologically damaged and unfit for the presidency. He displays many characteristics of a sociopath, including lack of empathy, runaway narcissism, cruelty, selfishness, belittling the vulnerable, lack of respect for our systems and norms of government, and disdain for the Constitution. It’s not bullying to call out a bully! Trump has profoundly damaged our country, our environment ,and our standing in the world. He’s riding the coattails of President Obama’s growing economy, having done little except give massive tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy, driving up the deficit by over $1 trillion! What happened to Republicans screaming about the deficit under Obama, (who inherited an economy falling off a cliff requiring a major economic rescue)? Obama righted the ship and got the economy back on track full steam ahead, when Trump came into office. The tax cuts have starved government programs like public schools and teacher pay, National parks, roads and bridges, while fattening CEO’s and the wealthy even further. And the economy isn’t great for the poor and middle class, yet now he’s going after Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security! He could not care less about those who struggle to get by, due to health conditions, injuries, veterans, the elderly, single moms, hungry children, etc. He tore innocent children from their mothers’ arms and put them in cages, causing permanent psychological damage! This is not the United States I know and love. The man is unhinged, dangerous, a compulsive liar, unfit for the office, has committed illegal acts plus a cover-up aided by the Senate, and needs to be removed. If you don’t see all of that, you’re not seeing reality.

    For a TV doctor, Phil was a lot more impressive than I'd expected, but he apparently has an issue with eye contact.

He does not need to look you nor me in d eye while commenting ..he needs to focus on wat he is saying and d way to do dat is to sometimes look wherever he needs to look ...I do d same thing...and people thinks d same of me!!! People have different ways of doing things...there's no right or wrong way in this instant...whatever works!!!

      Doreen - the point is that they grew from the same seed. Both are evil men using their power to obtain satisfaction and fill their narcissism. Do you remember any other president in the history of this country who regularly told the public how perfect he is? Harvey ran his life the wxact same way he just had a different podium to launch his pathology from.
