I grabbed the closest rag immediately (it was dirty) and drove myself to the emergency room. The Dr. said that if I hadn't done that, regardless of the disgusting rag, I very well could have bled out or lost some of the functions of that hand. I always always make sure the chain is on the biggest ring now (less of a concern with 1x drivetrains!)

One time when I was doing rad bike stunts drunk I made a jump out of a stack of beer cases and a 2x4. Well it didn’t end well. After hitting the jump at an extreme speed the seat flew off during my second back flip. When I landed… well let’s just say it was like I passed out at a party at Vlad The Impalers house. It was so embarrassing!!! The bike wouldn’t fit in the ambulance with me and the seat post was stuck about 15” up there. A few hundred stitches and O ring reconstruction surgery and I’m doing rad jumps again (after a lot of PTSD therapy). So yes I agree seat post angle is critical!!!! Great video!

Make sure your head tube is strong enough and you'd need to use an angled headset to get the geometry back to something close to what it was or you'll raise your Crank a lot and push yourself backwards on thd bike making climbing hard and it very easy for the front to come off the ground. I'd stick to 20mm max increase but if you head tube is up to it then it's possible, just takes some cash, working out and time. Like you might need different handlebars etc.

Regarding the "inverted fork" topic: No, someone from the motorcycle industry wouldn't say that the typical MTB fork design is actually the inverted version. What is referred to as an "inverted fork" in the MTB world is called an "upside-down fork" (or USD for short) in the MC world. I really like your channel. Looking at the last section on picking up your front wheel, it looks like the bike is a bit short and the handlebars are relatively high, which no doubt should help lifting the front wheel. But the new bike geometry, with a long reach, probably make it very hard and almost impossible (my feeling) when the bars are relatively low as on XC bikes. What do you say?

#AskGMBNTech Hi Doddy. Love the show and have learnt a lot. One more thing I would like to know, is there a reason not to use a compression/expander plug instead of star fangled nut to fit a tapered 1 1/2-1 1/8" suspension fork on a mountainbike? Thanks.
#AskGMBNTech Hi Doddy! I'd like to ask for a little piece of advice. I'm about to be building a new wheelset for my XC/Trail hardtail and one thing keeps on bothering me in terms of spec. Should I go for a touch wider rim (30mm internal) and have a wider base for a given tire or gain some weight by choosing slightly narrower ones (27mm) - both in 650b. Also, could you reccomend me the number of spokes for each wheel? I'm considering having 28 spokes at least on the front but still can't make up my mind about it. Thanks and keep up the good work!!!
I've got a 2021 turbo levo and the trigger for the dropper post takes a massive amount of pressure to activate which makes it really difficult to drop the post in a hurry. Is there a way to adjust this or is it an issue with the post? #AskGMBNTech
What would cause an MTB fork to smoke? I was recently doing a service on my 2020 Fox 36 Grip2. When I undid the air cap of the fork, dark colored smoke started rising out of the air chamber. I have inspected the inner walls of the stanchions and the piston seals and don't really see much for wear. Any idea what caused the smoke and if it is something to worry about? I used SRAM butter in the piston head and put the 3ml of Fox gold in the air chamber as recommended by Fox. #AskGMBNTech
#AskGMBNTech Hi Doddy! Over the years I've been upgrading my 2015 Rocky Mountain Altitude 730 (for example with a dropper and 1x12). Now I would like to upgrade the fork but really don't know where to start. Any tipps? What would you buy? Thanks alot and keep up the fantastic work, loving the show!

#AskGMBNTech I know how to adjust my indexing and that it changes the cable tension in the derailleur, but how exactly does it change the tension of the cable?
#AskGMBNTech Why do dropper post cartridges fail so easily? (both when being used and when they sit for a season) Also, to get the cartridge serviced/replaced, why do they need to be sent to the manufacturer?
#AskGMBNTech : Rockshox Monarch Plus R Debonair (NOT RC3) I am wondering if the rebound adjust on the Monarch Plus R also affects the compression or is there something wrong with my rear shock? I recently bought a used mint condition 2017 GT SANCTION Expert but I noticed when slowing down the rear shock Rebound adjustment there comes a point, closer to the slowest settings, when this seems to also dampen compression speed as well and make the shock feel increasingly firmer when trying to compress the shock from its full extension. Is this normal? Since there is no separate external compression or threshold adjustment on this shock, are the 2 somehow linked together internally? I do remember reading somewhere that the rebound adjustment on this shock was referred to as "DUAL FLOW"??? I have searched online for the last couple of months for any mention of a similar situation or explanation with no luck. Do I have a faulty IFP seal? or a blown shim stack? ... or is this normal? Thanks. P.S. Love the insight that this show, and all the other GMBN tech vids, bring to us home bike mechanics.
#AskGMBNTech I have a pair of 29er tubeless ready rims. My question is In my haste to build up the bike, I just grabbed the first set of tires available from the shop. #AskGMBNTech I ride a 2018 Trek Fuel EX 8 with a FOX 34 Rhythm which has 130mm travel and a 51mm offset. I'm considering switching the fork out for something with a better damper and upping the travel to 150mm. Should I reduce the offset from 51mm to 42mm to counter the slacker head angle? Thanks
#AskGMBNTech Hey guys, you're doing a great job with the channel, love your passion about it! You inspired me in experimenting a lot with my bike, an old 2015 Kona hardtail, and the latest thing I'm willing to do is replacing my front suspension fork for a rigid one, but can't figure out how to do so without heavily affecting the bike's geometry, the crown to axle is always much shorter on rigids, and seems that there is nothing on the market (that I could find) to compensate that. Any help to get the job done? Thanks
#AskGMBNTech love the show ! My dropper post gets stuck three quarter of the way up.. everything looks normal and the bike is a few months old. Should I service it, add lubricant or something else ?
Hello #AskGMBNTech - I've got a bit of a loaded one. Could you help me understand some more advanced bike fit ergonomics beyond the initial bike set-up? For example, I've heard it be suggested that the trend towards wider bars can have a negative impact on your ability to leverage the bike and your strength, with some people going back to 760mm or even 740mm bars. What's the science behind this? Also, I've developed a painful tendon/ligament (need to get it checked out!) since I've been doing more jumps on the trails, and it's been suggested to me that it could be due to the lateral angle of my feet positioning on the pedals in the descents. Should I have my toes facing forward, or should I position them so that my knees bend straight rather than inwards? Thanks!
#AskGMBNTech Hi Doddy, any advice on bottom brackets is appreciated. I have a 2019 Kona Honzo fitted with a Powerspline BB and three piece Sram NX cranks. The BB is just about shot and I want to upgrade to a better quality unit. Will I have to update my entire drive train to achieve this, or just the crankset? Thanks!
#AskGMBNTech Hi Doddy, I took my bike to my LBS a couple months ago for a brake bleed. The back brake was working well beforehand but upon collecting my bike they told me that the brake piston was cracked and I may experience minor brake fade on long downhill runs. Since then, my back brake has been working less and less reliably and now it won't bite at all most of the time (sometimes it does bite when you pump the brake lever repeatedly). Obviously this is a safety hazard so I can't take it back to the trails until I get this fixed. The brakes are Avid Elixir RSL from 2010 that can use either dot 4 or dot 5.1 fluid. What's my best course of action from here? Thanks in Advance!
Hi, dear GMBNs, so you are testing a lot of bikes, and very often, though there are hundreds of brands, you have a positive opinion or a recommendation. BUT are there not big differences in geometry and reach und stack and whatever? And therefore very different driving experiences - or just noticeable for pros? love you, Walter @
Does it hurt to have my spokes "creak"? I notice it sometimes coming down a steep hill which I need to slow down on. Sounds like a bunch of birds chirping. ;) I believe you/Doddy said to clean the spokes where they cross each other. Is that correct? Thank you.
hey Doddy on the topic of Hardtails I have a question. Can you put on a 140 mm Hardtail a Lauf fork and make the bike feel like a cross country bike. So you can have one frame that can be a trail or a cross-country bike depending on what fork you put on. In edition I would change the tires and stem to. Can you recommend this or are the changes in geometry to big? #AskGMBNTech
#AskGMBNTech Hi Doddy, I want to upgrade my downcountry hardtail with a new set of rims from Mach1. What is the difference between asymmetrical Torkx 27 and normal profile Cross-R 27? Or in general, what are the pros and cons of asymmetrical rims against the standard ones. Thank you. Fil
#AskGMBNTech my fork(rockshox lyric) does not come back to full travel unless I put my foot on the tyre and then pull up the bars and keep the wheel on the ground, do I need a full lower leg service or can I do something else?
#AskGMBNTech I have a RSP Plummet Dropper Post (externaly routed) and have issues getting it down. Is there any way I can make it less resistant to make it easier to push down, at the moment I really have to stomp on it (which is a pain in the rear end) Any help would be graity appreciated, Thankyou.
#AskGMBNTech I am thinking of upgrading my forks and have an odd question. My bike is a 27.5+ with 29 forks with 130mm of travel. Could I get a 140mm or even 150mm 27.5 fork without changing the geometry too much?
So I have a YT Capra with Fox Factory Transfer and when I pressed the lever to extend the seat post, after i released the lever, i heard a snap... some bolt in the lever snapped... I must specify that i was not on the bike. I am pretty disappointed at the quality of the lever... it is not the 2020 model. My question is, can i replace only the bolt in there? Or do something on my own to replace it? #AskGMBNTech
#askgmbntech hey I want to switch to a coil fork, should I buy a coil conversion (vorsprung) and change my lyrik ultimate to a coil or just buy a coil fork where the dampener and coil spring were designed together and sell the lyrik to help cover the cost of a whole new fork?
#AskGMBNTech Hello Guys, I have a question related to Air forks. I feel that my RockShox (Recon Silver TK) fork loses pressure, not much, but over the weeks it seems to have lost some pressure. The fork is less than a year old, has not been damaged and is regularly cleaned. I found this online, but what is your suggestion to stop this or to prevent this? Does it really work, or do we have better solutions?: "If the fork is leaking air slowly, try turning it upside down for a while. This can get the oil inside the fork to pour back around the seals. Strangely, storing your bike upside down longer term can have the opposite effect of making the air leak slowly."
#AskGMBNTech Suspension set up question. I felt like my suspension was dialed during the summer and fall. However now that the temps have dipped near 25°F (-3°C) it is feeling harsh. Is it a known thing that you need to redial your suspension in the winter? If so, is it usually air pressure or rebound or both?
#AskGMBNTech Hi Doddy, what do you think about mullet bike? My bike is 27.5" wheels with 170/165mm travel, full carbon, totally enduro machine. I am planning got a new fork and wheelset, if change to mullet setup, i have to got a less travel fork(140-150mm) to keep same geometry, it is a chance to do it? Thanks, love your show.
#AskGMBNTech While replacing the tyres on my cheap Halfords hardtail, I measured the rim to be 17mm internal width, 23mm outside width. Would these wheels be suitable for going tubeless, or am I likely to have issues due to the narrowness? Most bikes from MTB brands seem to be about 30mm.

The bike has a Fox Transfer 175mm 2021 dropper and on the website it says that it's spot on for me. Thanks in advance.

Why did people put a “thumbs down” I can’t think of any part of this video that was not entertaining/or helpful?
Those would be people with inferior complex who can't tolerate other's success.
Could it be because he talks for only about one minute about the topic presented in the title?
people who can't do wheely, maybe?
The “correct way” is also called inverted fork/shock in the motorcycle as, as well as the auto world.

#AskGMBNTech My Brand X Dropper SeatPost Stanchion Has A Bit Of Play/ Is Moving Side To Side Is There A Fix To This?
Zip-ties 👍😎
@@curtisf.r6233 hahaha good one😂😂😂
Great vid. Just a correction his name was Joseph not John! Lol.
I went straight to Monty Python when Doddy said "woody", lol!
And just like that you find yourself on a slightly uphill part in da woods :D
I think Doddy would make a good period drama policeman, as an actor on a Sherlock Holmes style show. I can't see Doddy as a modern-day policeman...unless he could be a bike-cop. 👍🏻
Can you run the new nukeproof mega 290, with 180mm fork and coil on the rear ?
#AskGMBNTech I have a pair of 29er tubeless ready rims. My question is In my haste to build up the bike, I just grabbed the first set of tires available from the shop. A pair of folding 29x2.2 Maxxis Ardent Races with the white logos and nothing else written indicating casing, compound or if they're tubeless compatible. How can I tell if these will seat properly as tubeless on my rims. Cheers!
#AskGMBNTech . Hey, I was wondering what was the difference between “normal” double suspension bike and low pivot bikes. Thanks
#AskGMBNTech after shifting into the 32T cain ring the derailleur starts to hit the spokes , and adjusting the limiting screws dose not help ether what should id do??
Can you not make the first 2 minutes of the seat tube angle video about creaky spokes?
Doddy, did you forget about lefty forks being "inverted?"
Thanks

Hey guys, you're doing a great job with the channel, love your passion about it!
11:43 he says don't listen to any advice so then don't listen to that advice either
Does it hurt to have my spokes "creak"? I notice it sometimes coming down a steep hill which I need to slow down on. Sounds like a bunch of birds chirping. ;)
I believe you/Doddy said to clean the spokes where they cross each other. Is that correct?
Thank you.
Tighten all of your spokes. They shouldn’t be moving that much relative to each other.
hey Doddy
on the topic of Hardtails I have a question.
#AskGMBNtech is there a preferable shock setting to store bikes in? I.e. is it bad to store them for a few months locked out?
Is there any way I can make it less resistant to make it easier to push down, at the moment I really have to stomp on it (which is a pain in the rear end) Any help would be graity appreciated, Thankyou.
hey doddy why don't you make a gmbn tech video of how to get the perfect bike picture?
#askgmbntech I want to buy a new bike. I'm having a dillema between the canyon torque al 5 and the canyon sender 5. Having a tough time deciding.
#askgmbntech hey I want to switch to a coil fork, should I buy a coil conversion (vorsprung) and change my lyrik ultimate to a coil or just buy a coil fork where the dampener and coil spring were designed together and sell the lyrik to help cover the cost of a whole new fork?
Is it ok to use carbon seat tube in alluy frames?
Starting sound like a Tinder ad Doddy 🤣

Hello Guys, I have a question related to Air forks.
Does it really work, or do we have better solutions?:
"If the fork is leaking air slowly, try turning it upside down for a while.
Hi, thanks for the great show!
I've got a question on new Bikes. How futureproof are the endurobikes of today?
Im looking to buy a Trek Slash as a second bike but im wondering, as i've got another relativeliy new bike right now, should i wait until the bikes get better? What do you think is in store for us in the next few years?
Cheers,
Max

#AskGMBNTech I'm looking to buy a bike from a direct sale brand, which means I won't be able to test it before buying. The bike has a Fox Transfer 175mm 2021 dropper and on the website it says that it's spot on for me. However, I was wondering if it turns out that it's like a centimeter too long for me, if it could be left like 90% extended or is it the case of either fully extended or fully slammed down. Thanks in advance.
#AskGMBNTech Hey Doddy, I have a dhimano deore 12 speed but I dont really like the shifter that much. Will a Sram X01 Shifter work with the Shimano Deore ecosystem?
#AskGMBNTech I would like to know what’s better for maintenance a 6 bolt rotor design or a centre lock rotor design
Cheerz!! 😁😊😎!!
Dj Doddy, I like it
#askgmbntech I have an old Rockshox Judy, it doesn't have threads on the air valve cap so I can't install tokens, but could I use some closed cell foam, 3d printed plastic or other materials to make my own press-fit tokens to make it more progressive or am I just out of luck?
brake levers over tightened!! who knew 👍🏼
After looking into maxxis tire line up for 2020 and calling maxxis. It seems they re adjusting their skinwall tires side wall color a dark "wtb color". Is this true? Is it just a change in color or is the sidewall thinner? Heavier? #AskGMBNTech

Can you use reverb hydraulic oil in brakes with mineral oil (Shimano e.g.), and vice versa? I have heard that reverb oil is mineral oil. I don’t have a reverb dropper post anymore, but still have some bottles with reverb hydraulic oil lying around #askgmbntech

#AskGMBNTech Which derailleurs support backpedaling? Cause mine doesn't
Ok Doddy we get it you have a dropper post 😭😭😂
