Volendam's sister ships were sold to Fred Olsen, over here in the UK. My sister and I were On the Bolette last year around the Med. It was interesting to see the things that were the same and those which had been changed. It is still a great experience on board with wonderful crew and service.
My mom and I did this same cruise and started in Montreal too. We saw the infamous Quebec bridge too! Same cruise line but different ship which is no longer in their fleet.
Just wanna say a big thank you to you guys for giving me some nice expectations regarding the Volendam. I watched this video before we embarked on our Boston to Montreal cruise June 22-29, 2024. Enjoyed it so much and have to agree with you that there is something about this smaller cruise ship that makes the experience more intimate. Even visited your cabin 3372 just because I saw it here. Anyway, keep on posting those videos and enjoy more cruises. Cheers!
J1 & J2 that was a great overview of the ship and certainly a big step up in experience for the first day relative to the last MSC experience. For some reason I am hungry after watching this vlog 😁 and thought what a wonderful experience it could be in that crows nest for "the growing core of friends" to have drinks/dance in the evening well into the wee hours of the night 🤔 Cheers.
Good morning my favorite cruise vloggers. Happy Father's Day to Jerry. OMG, I am loving this series of cruise vlogs. Soo nice to see cruising from a Canadian port. Would love to sail the St. Lawrence Seaway. Can't wait for all the vlogs. Have a great week :)
So glad to see you both so happy and excited on your first day of the cruise! James and I were saying how funny it would've been if Mr. Canuck was looking into the wrong cabin on the Promenade Deck!
It's definitely worth a visit. Between my mom taking me through Mount Royal and showing me where she grew up when my grandfather was an airmail pilot with Canadian Airways and my husband being posted with the military on his own for 2 years, there was always something to do or see.
Always a great day when a new vlog drops from Mr&Mrs Canuck! Looked like a fabulous embarkation day. So happy it's worlds apart from your previous cruise. Cheers from London, Ontario.
I just got off the Volendam a number of hours ago. I am now on a train (Via Rail) on my way home! I am mad at the ship as the swimming pools were not in working order! I cruise HAL to swim mostly in the lovely outdoor pool! I wasn't able to enjoy my swimming this year! Swimming helps me with depression at the end of a cold winter. Plus, I get Vit. D from the sun! I was very disappointed! That being said, the crew was very friendly and the food was good!
I keep looking at this on Holland America Website, it's so tempting. But as a senior who has previously been able to join cruises by driving to Vancouver it's alarming to see how a once great deal changes costs after the airfare and single supplements are added. (plus pet boarding). Maybe it'll happen one day I similarly enjoy your experience.
I'm on Volendam July13th. Can't wait. We have one of the Lanai cabins with the doors to promenade deck 3! It will be fun to watch the people walking by!
Your video brought back fond memories of my first ever cruise which was on Veendam some 25+ years ago, a lovely sized ship. We concluded a cruise from Miami to Montreal last May and was so impressed with Montreal, a lovely City. Really enjoyed watching and safe travels 🙏
Hello fellow Canadians! We will be “following” you on the Volendam in August. After watching all of your videos, I can’t wait. I’m at the part where you are eating the bread pudding. So many memories from way back to September 1997 on our cruise to Alaska on the old Nieuw Amsterdam. I still have the recipe for the bread puddiing!
This brings backs such good memories . We boarded Volendam in Vancouver, I had the most delicious Asian salad. When we were in Skagway and leaving to go on the White Pass rail, I found huge wrapped sandwiches at the end of the buffet. I took one for me and one for my wife and then we enjoyed them on the train. Everyone was asking where did you get those sandwiches, I said at the end of the buffet. I didn’t realize that a bunch of the people on board were off a Princess ship - oops.
so happy to watch you guys on the Volendam, we've not been before. It's a shame there is not a Dutch Cafe, but understandable. The Pinnacle class ships that do have Dutch cafe are alllways packed. I wrote on my last survey to HAL they should extend/have a bigger space for it.
I was so glad I found your Volendam cruise videos! We're doing a Nova Scotia cruise on the Volendam in July. Your videos are most helpful and I'm looking forward to see the rest.
California Linda shares I am new to your channel, however we are doing a similar cruise but B2B in September. Thank you for the reminder to check the window on an oceanview promade cabin. 🤔
Really nice to see what you are doing on the first day. We did our first HAL on the Eurodam last November. We loved the itinerary and would repeat this maybe with another cruise line. Food was great, service great but thank goodness for BB Kings band in the blues club as this was a “quieter” ship. The other music venues are good but they just made me sleepy. Loved the guys doing music trivia as they were lively. This was 11 days with 6 or 7 ports. All ships are different but wondering if you will find enough to do on this even smaller ship? Anyway looking forward to seeing more
We thought that maybe we would be giving up on some entertainment due to the smaller size of ship but it we really didn’t. We were really impressed with all the entertainment on board.☺️
We're on the same floor, on the Boston to Montreal sailing next week. Glad to know the windows aren't see-through. Very good video. Hubby dragged me across the Jacques Cartier Bridge every time I visited him during his 2 year military posting in Montreal while I stayed back in southern Ontario. I'm guessing that's the bridge you went under
@CruisingCanucks I noticed that further into the video. But I'm sure if we have the lights out and enough of a crack in the curtains, we may get a sunrise or two. We're actually in the same section, but on the starboard side.
We will be on the Volendam at the beginning of October from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale for 14 days. I will be in a window cabin as you are. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a mini fridge in the cabin. How did you deal with that? 🤔 This is my first ever Holland America cruise, after cruising often on different lines. Just checking 😊
You are correct there is no fridge in the cabin. The cabin steward will deliver ice twice daily. It was an issue for us Beach use we had the Have IT All package so we were able to get cold water and drinks throughout the ship. Hope you have a fabulous cruise.🛳
2 Days until we fly to Anchorage. 5 days until we board the Noordam. No lunch right away since we will not be boarding until after 4 PM. So our first meal will be dinner in the MDR.
My wife, before we met, went on a trip that took her to Montreal, not a cruise. H.A. must have sold the Veendam. You are on the even side. We liked to be on the odd side. Is it a Gideon Bible? Holland America has very good food. Holland America pizza isn't the best. Love olives. Love desserts. When my wife and I ate at Canaletto, there was no surcharge. Probably no craps table in the casino. Like both Cod and Salmon. Steak is good too. Some sparkling wines can be very good. Like Hot Tubs better than pools. When we first started cruising we went on the Destiny Class on Carnival. Then it became the Triumph Class. Man overboard? Yes, service on Holland America is good. Not a fan of Cesare's Salad. Never tasted Rock Fish before. Both desserts look good. Never been to Montreal.
It was a Gideon Bible. We started cruising with Carnival’s Destiny Class also. The Rock fish was very good. We would compare it to cod. Montreal is a beautiful city. We really enjoyed our time there.
So glad that Jerry had the correct window while trying to look in with the camera
For sure! He might of met with security if he had it wrong!👮♂️
We love HAL. I miss seeing the menu. Thanks for the memories!! I love the plates too!!
You are so welcome! One of these days I will have enough room in my luggage to buy myself a set of those plates. They are lovely.
The one thing about every cruise is that it’s a journey. The good thing is the journey always pays off. I’m glad you two had a good time.
We had a fabulous first day.
Volendam's sister ships were sold to Fred Olsen, over here in the UK. My sister and I were On the Bolette last year around the Med. It was interesting to see the things that were the same and those which had been changed. It is still a great experience on board with wonderful crew and service.
We now had Fred Olsen on our list of cruise ships to try.
My mom and I did this same cruise and started in Montreal too. We saw the infamous Quebec bridge too! Same cruise line but different ship which is no longer in their fleet.
Nice. It was a wonderful place to cruise out of.
Just wanna say a big thank you to you guys for giving me some nice expectations regarding the Volendam. I watched this video before we embarked on our Boston to Montreal cruise June 22-29, 2024. Totally agree. By the end of the cruise we felt that we made some wonderful friends.

Thanks so much. It was a fabulous cruise. Highly recommend everyone do an East coast Canada cruise 🇨🇦
So glad to see you both so happy and excited on your first day of the cruise! James and I were saying how funny it would've been if Mr. Canuck was looking into the wrong cabin on the Promenade Deck!
He is very lucky he didn’t put his face up against another passenger’s cabin. He might of got a real behind the seems tour and found the ship’s jail!🤣
You guys really make me want to go on Holland America next time out
Give them a try. We love cruising with Holland America!
Very professional tour of an elegant ship - we enjoyed the way you alternated the voice over - keep up the good work!
Thank you! Will do!
Montreal looks absolutely beautiful, I wouldn’t mind visiting the city someday. I bet the poutine there is incredible!
it is!
It is a beautiful city to visit.

Both pools were closed!? They were certainly open when we were there.
@@CruisingCanucks It was horrible! Even the hot tubs were not working!
So good to hear that there ships the size. 4:23
Team Frozen always seems to be more potent!!
We were on this cruise with you as the second leg of a back-to-back. We enjoyed it so much we rebooked another Volendam cruise next month!
Wonderful! We would love to do it all over again. Enjoy!🛳
I love Holland !! We were hoping to sail in 2026 with them again but wow prices are high especially in Canadian funds!!
We are finding that with all travel right now. Especially hotel rooms at embarkation ports.
So nice seeing you both have such a great experience on your first day!! Love the ship! 🚢
We were surprised at how much we lived the ship. Very impressed with how well the ship was being maintained.
We really enjoyed the video. Tawnee is so proud of you guys getting on early. Jerry’s enthusiasm really came through in this video.
First couple to check in!🏆

The cost of travelling has definitely been increasing especially hotel and airfare cost.
I'm on Volendam July13th. Can't wait. We have one of the Lanai cabins with the doors to promenade deck 3! It will be fun to watch the people walking by!
Very exciting! Have a fabulous cruise.🚢

Thanks for sharing. We really had a wonderful time.
Mrs Canuck, those earrings are spot on. The tiny curtains made me laugh. A bible in the room would be a nono, if I want one I bring one.
Thanks. The tiny curtains were funny for sure. Guess there just wanted you to think of it as a separate space between the sofa and bed.
Great video! I’m on the Volendam in October from Montreal to Ft. Lauderdale. Thanks for the tour. I love HAL and have sailed many, many times!
Have a wonderful cruise. Thanks for watching.

Just found your video. We were on the same cruise! Brought back some great memories! It was a lovely cruise.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was an amazing cruise!🛳
Team on the rocks!
The best!
So does the raisin bread pudding have nuts??? I think I’d love it too but allergic to nuts. I want crème brûlée too?

We do love the Dutch Cafe.
Hello from PEI . Where did you travel to?
Enjoying these vlogs as we are planning to go next September. Had no idea there were sailings out of Montreal, thank you 🙏
It is a great city to start a cruise from!
Caesar salad is small bust so tasty!!!
Yes it is!
I am excited to try a dam ship now!
You should! They are great.🛳
Great vlog. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
More to come!

Great video never cruised on Holland America usually on princess but it looks like a really good cruise ship
It really is! We were so impressed with this ship and all that Holland America has to offer.🛳
New Camera? Love Volendam. Great dinner dress Jill.
Same camera but the editor has been upping his game! Thanks 😊
Loving this cruise. Cool bridge crossing😮
We had an amazing embarkation day!

Very cool. Those cabins do become see through at night when you turn a light on in your cabin.
Have a fabulous cruise!🛳

So watching your blog is enticing me to book a small Holland America cruise ship and then not distant future
They are a fabulous cruise line.
@@CruisingCanucks ❤️
How about sailing with us in February to French Polynesia?
Wonderful 🛳
Lovely dress!
Thank you! 😊
We booked the lower Dolphin deck ocean view and was a bit worried but might be better than people seeing inside the cabin 🤣
Very true. We loved the location of our cabin however we probably would choose a different location next time.
I caught a glimpse of the Ocean View Lanai cabins over your shoulder. Did you talk with anyone who was staying in one?
No we didn’t speak to anyone that stayed in them.
What a lovely looking ship!
Wondering if I am only one to spot the secret letter? Or is it a secret. Sssh
Thanks 😊
Would dearly love to take this cruise but regrettably too many Americans onboard. Oh well, off to Europe I go to catch a Marella cruise.
We met some wonderful people on board. Have a wonderful cruise with Marella.
I’d love to try HAL!
They provide a wonderful experience.🛳
Have to raise my glass to team frozen!
Oh no! Your the second person on Jerry’s team already today.
@37:47 I see Pauly Morgan *has* had an influence on you after all...
We have made lifelong friendships with both Paul and Carole ❤️
I was told that the cabin doors are not magnetic so I am wondering if the walls next to the door are magnetic.
I now have my answer. Thanks for the video. It was great.
Thanks for watching.
Frozen, all day long!
I still think the bald guy is funny
Enjoy your videos keep em coming
🤣
Quite a difference from MSC EH?
Oh YES! We loved every difference.❤️
The worst main dining room service was on Holland America Rotterdam, September 22. Awful
We are going on a cruise next week. Can you tell me what kind of selfie stick you use? We need one.
Its a 3m selfie stick made by Insta360.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Team frozen
What were the ports on this sailing?
Embark Montreal, Quebec City, Charlottetown, Sydney, Halifax, Bar Harbor and Debark in Boston.
Surely the cabin has air conditioning.
Unfortunately the air conditioning was not working in our cabin which is why we had staff checking it out twice.
The reason the Penicillin is smoky is due to type of scotch used.
We found that out after a little research. It was very good.

Hi guys, loved the video. I would like to join you on a groupcruise however I will cruise Cozumel in december 24. So not in 2025.
Maybe you will be able to join us on our 2026 group cruise. Trying to plan what one that will be soon.
