One of the central figures in cafe culture is the Barista - everyone and everything seems to revolve around the Barista. The central figure behind the espresso machine the barista serves us that wonderful addiction in the morning. Our Barista, is rather casual - whereas in Europe the Barista can be much more formal - professional and thus create a more classic atmosphere. The Barista in my painting is surrounded by a counter, and flanked by all the trappings of a coffee shop. We could spend days to render each cup, napkin and biscotti - . I am more interested in the patterns I can use to render these objects and keep my painting lively and free - making it a joy to paint. The Barista is surrounded by patrons gazing sometimes longingly sometime impatiently - the addiction does this. We conjure a few poses to create the illusion of a crowded cafe...
The cafe itself is the stage with the lighting in place and the many decorations to choose from. We are looking for simplicity and something authentic so a few bulbs and lamps and the large windows give us the minimum, adding more would crown the scene. Beyond the glass are other treats to avoid, rather let’s pick up on the slight change in light from left to right and leave the rest to imagination.

Mr. Tucker, one of the greatest watercolorist of mankind. Thank you so much for your videos and your art! 👍
Wow, thank you!
Your indoor bar paintings have always fascinated me. The light is almost tangible and the scene has so much life. Your comment about a photo ( or real life ) that does NOT filter any details is so true. For the eye it's all detail and that’s what is so incredibly difficult for me and other amateur watercolour artists. Thanks for sharing your amazing skills.
thx Barbara - I always appreciate you take on the subject

I always have to skip to the end because, even though I know you always pull it together, it’s hard to imagine at the halfway point.
