Hello Chris; A blues video tribute to Mississippi Fred. A folk singing blues man with guitar in one hand & slide in the other. We were always impressed by Fred's I Do Not Play No Rock & Roll. A strong LP that over the years has influenced many blues rock & folk artists. Fred's career catalogue of folk recordings is legendary. A solid documentary styled video with both historical & informative narrative. Good video. Take care, Tina & Pat!!~
Hi T&P!! Thank you very much... I appreciate it. Fred has long been a favourite of mine, so this was overdue. Hard to describe his unique style, but a fun deep dive. Cheers!
I use to have a few CDs from McDowell, always liked his music. What a great retrospective on a guy that many don’t know much about. Well done nephew. I do have that I Do Not Play No Rock n Roll on vinyl
Hi Chris. Great overview of Mississippi Fred McDowell. I need to get more of his music. I only have the Black Lion record. I know that quite a few rock artists have covered his tunes.
Hi Randy. Yeah, he's pretty cool and his style is terrific. I would recommend "I Do Not Play No Rock 'n' Roll." It's been re-issued a couple of times and should be easy to find. The Lomax recordings are out there as well (1959 and 1965). Thanks. Cheers!
Hi Chris!! so cool to see you doing kind of a St Patrick homage with blues in it..... i have heard you talking about Fred McDowell, it's always nice to see remembering classic blues players that might be the big and most well known names in the genre. cheers and be well
Thanks Cristian. He's not super well known, but tons of other artists have covered his songs: Clapton, The Stones and more. His guitar style is crazy and totally different. Thanks and have a good week buddy. Cheers!
Great video Chris!! Mississippi Fred is my favorite! I’ve been on a hill country blues kick the last few months. Even this morning was playing (badly of course) some of Fred’s tunes on guitar. You called it, the drone is the thing that separates the hills from the delta musically. At least to my ear. Enjoyed the video! Great work!! Cheers, Jon
great overview of a very important artist, i think you pretty much nailed it, im now going to have to dig out some of his cool stuff from my collection and rediscover this blues legend, going a little of topic of which im sorry for but last weekend i finally picked up a vinyl copy of the crossroads soundtrack at a local record fair, i was shocked this movie and soundtrack sunk without a trace here so snapped that up. back on track a few artist to cover son house, pinetop perkins, bo diddley, alexis korner, johnny winter, cheers chris
Hi Stephen. Yeah, Fred's style is tough to describe... very unique. Glad to hear you found a copy of Crossroads soundtrack... sounds like it was as hard to find for you as it was for me. I would love to cover Son House! I do have quite a few of his records. I've Johnny Winter already but it was about 5 years ago. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/-jHitio8o9w/видео.html Thanks for the suggestions. Cheers!
Fred Mississippi McDowell is a favorite of mine. Looking forward to this.
Hey Rich. Cool. I hope you dig it. Thanks and have a good one. Cheers!
