    Listening to you, Marianne, made it possible for me to imagine people ready now to get together publicly and atone for pain and wrong done to ourselves and each other... atone silently, from the heart, in the wholeness of their being... as communities or as nations.
    A premise for reparation, for clearing memories, heavy hearts and consciousness.
    I would say that to be able to repair with money, no matter what that value is, we first should change the way we see money, the reason we want to gain them or to offer them.
    I am so thankful for what you put on the table!
    I wish you health and strength on this incredible journey you took on!

    My expectations were very low before watching this in terms of the practicality of how reparation should be implemented. But this convinced me. Germany is a good example of how this could be done. And yes, in one way or another, this should be done.Thank you Marianne. Your voice is important in the Democratic Primary.

    • @elleMerci_bey
      @elleMerci_bey 5 лет назад +2

      John C so you think broad programs like going after poverty or affirmative action address the suffering and psychological torture of slavery and Jim Crow? If so, that is a very ignorant line of thinking. If you really care about enlightenment and educating yourself, I would suggest you read some of the books and essays available that examine why reparations are necessary. Also, what does hate have to do with this conversation?

      @@wiseteacher3599 amen. John C Reparations are overdue. We never ended slavery, we just moved it into prisons, and we've had domestic terrorism for decades (for example - organized white supremacy). The only way we will save our country and the world is by building connections, not walls. Owning the poor choices made that have limited black people since forcing them here in chains is part of the process of healing.

    Thank you, Marianne! This is an awesome talk that I would love to see go viral!! I would like to add, possibly call it a request, that when doing a talk like this again that you include the reparations still needed for the Native American population. While programs have been started, it does not address the deeper issues similar to what you have talked about with respect to the Blacks and Jews. I hope you read this yourself... thank you for listening and doing what you are doing. I always knew there was hope for our country if we remembered who we really are as spiritual beings FIRST and truly let that be our guide. Blessings. Jude

      @John C ,You may be white or not, but what you don't see is the slave masters children and grand children are dying off, not being born, or killing them self off. Do you not know Karma, have taken over from what have not been done. Our parents prayed for America, because they hoped for the dream; my generations not praying for America, we praying for China,Iran, and Russia, to bring this nation to its knees.That we might get a hold on things; rebuild apart of it " This Nation " for self. In my dreams I have seen the outcome and time is running out for this Nation; You better hope that her " Marianne, get this on a national level and it stick; see the prayers have changed for this nation. They where the prayers of my people ( my parents ) that has been holding back the Raft of Karma /God, to give this nation time to change. You have not been watching the weather; that my ancestors raft slowly building up all over this earth. The world knows something coming. Soon the world will turn on itself white on white infighting. The generation, of our youth prayers are now going into play, and they say destroy this nation by any means possible; they want this country off their back !!! Karma, is real Amen !!!!

    'Slavery began in [what is now] the United States in the 1600s'. No, strictly it began in the 1500s in the Spanish colony of Florida, which predated the English settlement in Virginia and New England that are usually seen as the kernel of what was to become the USA.

    • @whitepanties2751
      @whitepanties2751 Год назад

      Except that even more strictly, slavery in North America began long before that, however many millennia ago the first Native American enslaved another Native American.

  • @whitepanties2751
    @whitepanties2751 Год назад

    The question I keep asking on this subject, including elsewhere on RUclips, but have never had a clear answer, unless someone would care to supply it now:
    Yes, slavery of blacks taken from Africa to the Americas was overall a very cruel thing, but history is full of crimes, oppressions, persecutions, massacres and invasions, from the Romans destroying Carthage in 146 BC to the Rwandan tribal genocide of the 1990s. If the fact that all those who were slaves or slave owners until 1865 are long dead does not stop reparations being payable now, logically, why not reparations for the descendants of those executed in the Salem witchcraft trials in the late 17th Century, or descendants of the French Protestants killed in the St Bartholomew's Day religious massacres of 1685, reparations for the Fourth Crusade sacking Constantinople in the 13th Century, or for the Israelites massacring the Canaanites of Jericho
    in the Old Testament? How would we decide which wrongs deserve reparations now and which do not?
    And if the present day Lakota Sioux are due reparations from the United States for taking their land by force in the 1870s, do the Sioux in fairness also have to pay reparations to the Pawnees and Crow from whom they took the same land by force some years before? (And so on, ad infinitum?)
    And if this lady is right that anything less than $100 Billion to American blacks for slavery would be insulting, there will be an awful lot of money to be made by lawyers and consultants advising on all the trillions of dollars in compensation claims that must arise from all the claims for compensation that must arise from history in this World of sin. Are you comfortable with such people advertising for historic claims as accident lawyers do, and claiming their 25% fees out of all the $trillions that may be involved?
    Unless someone can give an intellectually honest, logically coherent and practical answer to these questions, then whatever this reparations thing is about, then it is more about vanity and greed than about justice.

    Pondering on this knowledge is wildly enlightening. If u compare the success of the black community’s accomplishments they’ve never asked for repayment, only civil liberties. That takes a deep level of humility! Even as the racism continues they’ve had to morph a horrid reality into positivity. It’s only right to give the blacks reparations!!!

    Racism isn't necessarily bigotry. Most to all Americans that are part of the entrenched racist system are active participants to racism without feeling any emotions of bigotry. The current governor of Virginia honestly seems to have a history of revering black people and even emulated them as personal heros. His public persona is certainly not that of a bigot. However doing black face is racist from a history of racism. In this scenario he's not a bad guy. However he's a typical racist. Donald Trump took out an ad to kill people he actively and aggressively hates. Mr Trump is a bad guy hate filled, a bigot. The good guy and the bad guy both perpetuated racism. If we can get the well intended good guys to recognize their own racism and unintended racist behavior and their acceptance of bigotry from hate filled bigots we'll be head and shoulders ahead of where we are now.

    • @mandelharvey3429
      @mandelharvey3429 5 лет назад +1

      @John C most active racist feel absolved of evil because they don't act with malice. Racists oftentimes have malicious results of unknowingly perpetuating a racist system without intending to do harm. A hate filled bigots actions are intentional. Most racists aren't intentionally bigots.

    • @mandelharvey3429

      @John C dude. Trump took out a full page ad in the New York times calling for the execution of the central park 5 before his presidency. He addressed a national police convention and instructed them to use brutality as President. That's pretty well circulated info. You can google central park 5. Trumps ad was a part of their story well before trump was a political figure. His address to the police is also in wide circulation and is very consistent with who he is. Its nice you can live oblivious to your President telling you he'd rather you were beaten and killed on a presumption of guilt based on appearance. Google central park 5. Become a little more informed and potentially tell me where I've misinterpreted his words and actions.

      @mandelharvey3429 5 лет назад

      @John C impressive you cared. Also the double meaning about the president being accused of all manner of evil some of it falsely is appreciated. He's not dumb and he's not doing anything different from who he's been forever. I don't think he should be impeached on criminal grounds. He's exactly who America elected. Of course a guy who held a pageant in Russia has Russian business ties. They're listed in the credits of a 20 year old broadcast that's available on VHS. Any investigation was just for fun. His actions are no worse than anyone else whose been President. But that goes back to racism vs bigotry. When we see people as people then and only then will America have it's stated values. Native, imported, and foreign.
