I wanna say the true value in The Last Airbender is in showing the power of animation as a medium capable of doing things that simply can't be translated to 'live action' effectively, and should be taken more seriously. The entire production reeks of people who didn't take it seriously because in their mind it was based on a cartoon for babies and not worthy of any more effort than it was given.
@@NuvizzleThat's pretty much the impression I got when I first saw TLA film. First of all, they tried to make the film super serious, almost to the point of being grim. Aang, Katara and Sokka were kids, and in the animation, were shown to be playful like kids generally are. It was serious when it needed to be, but also light hearted. The film had none of that, and it just came across as soulless. It felt almost like Aang wakes up after an apocalypse into a world devoid of life and everything is dire. It's almost as if Shyamalan didn't know a damned thing about the characters or setting of the film at all.

Split has done a thousand time more damage to the public perception of DID than teenagers on tiktok could ever do. But that's just because For Some Reason people think the movie where a guy crawls on walls is real life
both Split and Glass handles DID quite badly. like, not even bc of the superpower stuff, since the context is that it's actually sorta incidental rather than the disorder being the cause of the power. But bc of stuff like "the real personality", as that is just not a thing. All the alters are equally real and part of a single whole, which also leads to the problem with the common and harmful stereotype of the "Evil Personality", no alter would go as far as committing murder unless all of the alters wanted it. And destructive alters are way more likely to harm their own body than anyone else. So the only way to have made Mr Beast make sense would be to have Kevin deep down share those same values and desire to kill, he just never had the guts to act on it. Like... I feel like these movies are on some level trying to represent DID somewhat accurately at times, but that kinda makes it worse than if they had made thing completely inaccurate. I could even see, in a vacuum, an "evil personality" making sense in context of a more fantastical story, but with how overused that trope is and how much it's stigmatized real life ppl with DID, it just doesn't rly feel worth it to me. No to mention due to the Unbreakable reveal being so late into the film most ppl who only saw Split but had not seen Unbreakable then just saw DID being portrayed as something mystical, supernatural and sinister within a seemingly normal world for seemingly no reason.
Yeah, I was thinking about this while I watched that part, wondering if he would mention it. Ultimately, I can see why he might not have, considering this is a video about finding positives in films that up-front are immediately declared as flawed by most people. But I do still think it bears saying that Split (I haven't seen Glass so I can't really speak on it past what Jeff has said here) really did a piss poor job at explaining and characterizing a person suffering from DID.
In MNS defense, Dr Fletcher mentioned that "some" DID case she handled manifest physically in a way that's only possible within the film universe (DID won't save you from rising insulin price in real world, for example). Moon Knight arguably have the same problem with violence tendency of the alters, but the backlash against Split was more pronounced. Probably due to his role as villain rather than hero.
@@bepamungkas!spoiler! For moonkight I have to disagree with the moonknight example mark is a mercenary he is more than willing to kill people he just prefers to kill people who are evil (mark is the main personality sorry to ruin the plot twist)

what an insanely good video. never once did it play as background noise, sat down and watched my screen for the whole thing. such fantastic presentation!!!
IDK what tone of sarcasm you were going for with the DID population joke but... ummm... if those numbers are the proposed numbers by credible scientists... 1.5% of 8,000,000,000 is 120,000,000... One Hundred and Twenty Million people. That's actually a LOT of people.
My favs (in order): Signs, Unbreakable, Lady in the water, and The Village. ---- However, I honestly didn't know about some of these. I'm going to give them a go, even though they've been "spoiled". (For me? Spoilers don't really matter much, it's about the whole experience). Thanks for doing this it was really fun actually. (Also hotdogs are kind of underrated, I get his mindset)
As someone who's guessed a decent amount of well written twists, I can't stand how predictable Shyamalan's absurd and obvious "twists" are, how his characters talk, and most importantly how horribly and offensively he writes anyone with neurodivergence or a disability. The first two can at least be funny, or amusing to make fun of, but the latter is genuinely harmful, and doesn't even have the excuse of aging poorly given how recently he's done it or only existing in one or two films. I wish this video had touched on that. Demonizing and dehumanizing people who often already face struggles and judgement, or else victimizing them with outdated magical freak/supercrip tropes and storylines, is simply not on the same level as "the characters are corny" or "the twist was obvious from the poster" or "well, taste is subjective".
You can't just drop Ace of Base on us in the first 20 seconds without a trigger warning for all us fragile elder milennials, shit hits too hard for these dusty corpses..

Oh yeah on editing time most the creators I follow with heavy editing will hire extra editors so and the whole team does this almost full time but it’s having 2-3 people in editing that gets it cut down to 1-2 months for them
honestly, i have a low attention span (ADHD) and it actually HELPS me pay attention when things are so well crafted as this. i can’t watch iceberg videos because they’re so loosely structured and it’s just a bunch of “here’s this thing. here’s another thing” and i can’t for the life of me make myself listen to it, despite how much i love hearing people talk about their passions. the iceberg videos on this channel, though? i never once zoned out. even people with low attention spans can enjoy longform media (and i actually prefer it), as long as it has structure and is engaging. i mean, i guess i can’t speak for everyone, but it works for me
"the balls store the piss" got a surprise belly laugh, and my subscription, lmao
I’m constantly bamboozled by how well produced and fun your videos are, keep it up man :)
I was convinced that "Devil" was an M Night, which I suppose he is, but only written credit. I loved how this was an essay on your love for him as I am a massive fan :)
Okay, I am a new follower from the trumpet skull video and I just have to say wow! I can’t like this video enough! I wish I could give hundreds of likes to this video. The composition is *chefs kiss* and I just have to say thank you SO much for making this!
Also Signs is one of my favorite movies! I somehow never realized how much I like m night.
Split has done a thousand time more damage to the public perception of DID than teenagers on tiktok could ever do. But that's just because For Some Reason people think the movie where a guy crawls on walls is real life
That is just a goddamn movie, c’mon !

What a fun watch! Worth the wait, I had no idea there was a Shyamalan trilogy! Oh, don't forget to add the chapters!
thank you for the reminder. will get on that asap.
This is amazing. I literally just snorted at “I didn’t expect newborn”
You are my new favorite channel, my guy
both Split and Glass handles DID quite badly.
like, not even bc of the superpower stuff, since the context is that it's actually sorta incidental rather than the disorder being the cause of the power.
To be completely fair he’s not misrepresenting on purpose he’s just taking what the comics say
@@bepamungkas!spoiler! For moonkight
I have to disagree with the moonknight example mark is a mercenary he is more than willing to kill people he just prefers to kill people who are evil (mark is the main personality sorry to ruin the plot twist)
Thanks captain obvious... literally everyone knows this already. Why you had to write an essay about it is the real mystery
My hindi workmate, hes an older fulla, says the same thing about god. it doesnt matter who youre praying to or what you believe in, you just need a relationship with the divine. apparently my atheist arse feeling the vibe at rock concerts counts in his books. my favourite kind of theist by far!
As a self-professed worshiper of art (yes I. fully realize that sounds pretentious as fuck), I like this workmate of yours. At the end of the day, it’s all art. Religion is made up of a bunch of stories that inspired so many wondrous pieces of art that have inspired people for millennia. That’s all that art has to do. This metalhead approves!
"Im an evil wolf and I dont care about your vessel *nom nom nom*" 😂
First off, this was a marvelous piece of entertainment. You certainly are good at what you do sir, from the summary, to the scripting, to the filming you've made a fantastic video.
Secondly, that background music hit me right in the nostalgia. From the golden age of flash games.
i’ve been binge-watching a ton of your videos since discovering your channel and ngl as a shyamalan fan i was a little scared when i clicked on this video but i audibly yelled “let’s fucking GO” when the twist came, thank you jeffiot for passing along the good word 🙏
"The artist formerly known as Grandma" god tier writing, that got me good
so good. i have a new appreciation for this goofy director
im happy to hear it. he do be goofy.
The payoff at the end of this highly entertaining video essay brought me more joy than I could have expected. Thank you for this.
This is all so amazing and well done. I did not like Signs but now i respect it. I figured out the twist in The Village and thought it was mediocre but Jeffiot made me realize that i was overlooking the good details in it.
My man, what did you do to make Mr. Algorythm not like you? RUclips cannot be considered just until it promotes you. I am handing you out to everyone I can think of. I know I'm just a some dude and that doesn't mean much but hopefully other people will do the same.
And chance of you collaborating with a bigger name so you can get the exposure?
Thanks!
As far as collabs with bigger channels go: not up to me, really! tweet and message your favourite creators (without bothering them) and maybe it'll happen!
@@jeffiot If I had any reach I would use it! Instead I have decided to do something I told myself I would never do...I am going to join a patreon. This is what you've done to me! I need this content!
the algorithm caters to the habits of the viewer so if something doesnt work with the algorithm its because youtube doesnt think you watch enough content that would denote an interest in a particular creator.
thats before the bullshit layer of the algorithm.
The clockwork orange spliced into the rapping was perfect. I love your channel.
Oookay I'm only 10 minutes in but I'm utterly hooked and on board for the duration, I just need to make sure I've got enough snacks and drinks for next couple of hours.
How on earth does this only have 3k views? How has this channel not already exploded? It surely can't be far off. Your jazz skull video brought me here and that is Hbomberguy levels of awesome.
Congrats on your amazing work and thank you very much for providing my Christmas Eve entertainment!! god Jul!
I muted through the rap, I stared into your eyes with dead silence.
The end of the video is hilarious, your sense of humor is awesome!
The freestyle rap killed my fucking airpod and now I have to finish listening to it where everyone else can hear me listening to it.
Gasoline makes fumes, the fluid doesn't burn the fumes do. You light that match surrounded by gasoline and youd go up in a huge poof of flames and then be covered in burning gasoline having your face used as a wick.
This video was such a beautiful love letter. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said M. Night is at his best mixing family drama and cool stuff. I didn’t realize it before, but all my favorite movies do that. Wonderful video
They are about to drop a new m. Night shamalan movie and you were the first person I thought of, Jeff. I'm so excited for you. And for me. But mostly for you
I absolutely love the Last Supper scene in Signs
Brilliant.. the village is my favorite. It was just marketed so it looked more horror and I had many friends let down by it.
Merry Christmas and happy birthday Jeff.
Bro this was an absolute masterpiece definitely didn't make me like M. Night but definitely got me to love you
I know it’s pretty much an extended bit but defining the value of a bad folm like that is really good. Seeing the value of a bad piece of media not to laugh at it but as a way to measure other media is really nice. I will be adding it to my range of ways to appreciate garbage
I've seen two of your videos so far and they've both blown me away! Can't wait to watch more tomorrow.
I already thought you were hilarious but the front bottoms joke really sold the subscribe
I love just settling in and watching hours of Jeff rambling. It's definitely a comforting time.
I love that you showed what's his toes from Wham City Comedy instead of Kubrick. 😂
Your channel is criminally undersubscribed. Your writing is BRILLIANT

Thank you.
I've never seen one of your videos before this, and I enjoy a few of Shyamalans films, but im not a massive fan, nor do I hate his work. I must say I watched this from start to finish in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you for making this.
Between all the amazing beats in this video, the Front Bottoms reference in After Earth made me know I had to subscribe
Stående ovationer. Bravissimo!
this has been a multiday undertaking for me thank you
Good work here, man. Some of your best stuff :)

Also I’m loving this video. Made me subscribe
As a fan of M. Night Shyamalan and getting hate for liking his films... thank you for this video.
Lady in the Water gave me the worst migraine I’ve ever had, and I’ve got 25 years of chronic migraines to compare it to. I have never before or since encountered a movie I hated so viscerally that it made me physically ill.
(You didn’t convince me that Shyamalan isn’t a miserable hack, but you’re a fantastic filmmaker, I have subbed, keep making things)
what an insanely good video. never once did it play as background noise, sat down and watched my screen for the whole thing. such fantastic presentation!!!
IDK what tone of sarcasm you were going for with the DID population joke but... ummm... if those numbers are the proposed numbers by credible scientists... 1.5% of 8,000,000,000 is 120,000,000... One Hundred and Twenty Million people. That's actually a LOT of people.
The good quote from Old is actually a quote from Sandcastle the graphic novel it is based on
My favs (in order): Signs, Unbreakable, Lady in the water, and The Village.
I love all your plug segments I never know what to expect. Fantastic content Jeffiot.
my english teacher really likes him and we had to watch a bunch of his movies and write an essay on the themes and shit. it was actually painful
Your editing is so damn good. Also, I'm glad to see some love for M. Night Shyamalan!
I watched signs on a tiny 4:3 tv in black and white at like 10 years old. Very very spooky, i think it really added to the experience
the "expect newborn" thing killed me xd

Damn, you have a lot of funky ties!
I never had any deep appreciation for Shyamalan, but I never heard that he is considered a bad director eather (apart from spectacular failure of Airbender). I think I always thought that his films just kinda neat ¯\_( ツ )_/¯
Before the making of this video, my collection of funky ties was significantly smaller. Had to stock up once I realized how many movies I had to cover.
Thanks for watching!
About 53 minutes into this video, and I realized why I watch Jeffiot. I am a fan of BIONICLE.
Signs had a scene filmed in my old hometown (Pharmacy scene was shot at Burns Pharmacy in Morrisville, PA) along with other scenes across Bucks County, so yes there is good to me because local stuff rules.
Frig I love Signs. People have been crapping on it for 20 years and I still love it. Just hearing you quickly summarize the ending, I was already crying haha. Ok. Moving on.
I love how you analyze these scenes. It's such a wonderful take on imperfect movies, the idea that everything has some nugget of gold. And the mashed potato scene did not have to go that hard holy shit
Your delivery and the unscripted ...twist for the patreon part is so funny!
Fick you for inserting the clockwork Orange scream into the freestyle segment, I was mid vape and coughed up a lung
