    So our township always leaves a 2-3 inch lip on the edge of the road. Completely defeating the purpose of reclaiming. They just run it on the edge of the grass using a tractor mounted retriever on the 3 point

    Gee that cab is quiet. I think you've got it too good Marco. I want to see some old time road buildin. Fixing up washouts and corrugations, manual mixing and laying out. These roads you have are making you soft mate. Not enough of a challenge. 😁😄

      Lol well believe me buddy when your in a blade for 12 hours a day like I am you definitely appreciate a nice quiet cab and a comfortable cab and yes my roads are in really good shape cause I’ve been maintaining them correctly lol.

    Hey graderman. Love the videos! Do you have any videos on servicing the grader? Greasing, fluids to check, parts to inspect and tire pressure? I’m doing some training and sometimes a video is better than me explaining

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  Год назад +1

      I actually don’t but I can definitely do a video on greasing and a general daily walk around I do thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching!

    The shoulders on my road need way more than a retriever…it needs a blade on a 16g…lol!!

      Yikes that sounds pretty bad if you need a 16G to fix you high shoulders.

      @@graderman140m we had some bad floods here and now we have 4 ditches instead of 2 ditches…the water never makes it past the shoulder to the ditch…so now we have a ditch…then the shoulder…then a ditch and then the road base…then another ditch…then the shoulder on the other side and then the original outer ditch…all because they’re too lazy to pull those shoulders in and get rid of that…some of the ruts are over a foot deep…the road needs a major rebuild!..it’s a hot mess and been like that for 3-4 months now!..

    Great vid as usual. How long or how many miles do the discs last?

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  Год назад

      Happy to hear that and I honestly haven’t wore a disc out I’d say 10 to 15 years before you’d have to replace disc blades there a pretty maintenance free tool besides greasing bearings and pivot points.

    Very interesting! , I do not know much about the 'retriever disc system' . What make is your retriever disc if you don't mind me asking? I do very similar work to you with in grading , apart from the snow here in South Australia. We have problems with shoulder build up and clean up . I'm very interested to learn more ! . Keep up the excellent Work!!😁👌

      My retriever disc is sold by lycox industries they also sell walk n roll packers for graders here is a link to there website there a very effective tool to use I love mine.

    What would you do if shoulder / berm grass is 3 to 6 inches higher than edge of road? Would discing it work? Love your video

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  Год назад +1

      I would use the disc you’d probably end up making a second or third pass to get all the way out to your hinge point then pull off with moldboard and get rid of the high shoulder hope this helps glad to hear you enjoy the videos thanks for watching!

    Unfortunatley, this system retreives a lot of topsoil and organic matter which is incorporated into the gravel topcoat destroying the driving surface. When wet the topcoat becomes greasy which reduces traction, brakiing and steering efffect and when dry it produces a lot more dust.

    • @graderman140m
      @graderman140m  Год назад

      You are correct but if you use this disc correctly you don’t have that problem you stated it’s all on how you use it and how aggressive you get it’s a great tool if used correctly.

    • @eagle-tv1iz
      @eagle-tv1iz Год назад

      @@graderman140m To check how much topsoil etc is pulled up, take a double handful of the blended gravel, place it in a mason jar fill it with water and shake it up and let it sit for at least 24 hours. The gravel sorts out into layers, with silts and topsoil at the top and some of teh top soil may float. If the jar sits for 2 weeks and the top rots, forms fungus etc, then way too much soil has been mixed into the gravel.

      Has to depend on the road and history of it. The contractor of our township roads grades large percentage of the road off into the shoulder/ditch area such that every year the road is "sinking" (now even scraping top of culverts) so I would think this would work well to at least start recovering a lot of that gravel no longer on the roadbed.

    Hey man, nice video. I love the retriever and used to use the three point hitch one. But last year got one for the front of the grader, and it works way nicer but it’s sucks to put on and take off, it always gets cock eyed before the pin holes line up, do you have any videos of it going on and off? Thanks man
